Mason's Grill & Smokehouse

I've been wanting BBQ for a few months. Had to run to Suffolk, and Mason's came up as "Places to Eat." I compare all BBQ to a place that was near Hertford, NC, SIMPS BBQ. A place my father took me for good BBQ years ago. Mason's is close, good food, great atmosphere. Brisket was tender, ribs falling off the bone. My kinda place. Going back to try fried catfish and chicken.

FOOD WAS GOOD. Pork was perfect and tender, hands down some of the best Pulled Pork I've had. On top of that, the sauces there were downright outstanding! Would 100% reccomend

Excellent food. I got the Masons Burger with tater tots. The food came out hot and fresh. The tots were crispy and delicious. Good atmosphere and staff are friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place. This is my fourth time eating here and it is always consistent.

I'd say as far as this place goes, it's alright. I've had better bbq and far worse. We started with some orange crushes which were fine. Deep Eddy vodka and OJ, nothing special. Deep fried pickles were pretty good. My wife and I both got the pulled pork sandwich, she got fries and I got tater tots. The pork itself was unseasoned and bland, but juicy and tender and even though the taste wasn't great they did pile them high. The tater tots and fries however, you can tell are not homemade. Most likely Sysco products. The saving grace was their homemade BBQ sauces. Six sauces to choose from gives you enough options to find something you'd like, which I did. Saved the sandwich tbh. We then got the banana pudding for dessert, but to go. It was fine. All in all not a bad experience, we'd come back. Side note, it's very common for most POS systems to have a credit card fee of 2%-4% depending on the system. Most restaurants eat that charge, but this place passes it off to the customer. Just fyi.

Very sweet and courteous staff. It was a game day when we went and it was a bit of a wait, but the atmosphere is very welcoming. Great food. Best burger I have had in awhile. Perfect temperature and tasted amazing!! My girls were so happy with their food as well. Before I could even get a picture they had taken most of my tater tots off my plate because they loved them so much!

We kept overlooking the areas they locked in because the food was good. But unfortunately over time the place has gone downhill. The past 4-5 times we have gone, the food takes astronomically long to get out of the kitchen. We went last night at 4:30PM, well before the dinner rush, when there were maybe 3 other tables and a few people at the bar. It took at least 35-40 minutes just to get our brisket and pork nachos appetizer, that cost $20 and came out cold and 80% chips, and all of the brisket was nothing but fatty pieces. The service is typically always bad recently. Our server last night did not check on us a single time after we received our appetizer and food and me and my daughters drinks sat empty the last half of the time we were there. I will say my husband's wings were good and so was my chicken sandwich, it was very tasty but took forever to come out. My daughter got the children's chicken bites and fries, and it seemed odd to me that she was not interested in eating them at all when they are usually really good. We took them home and I reheated them the next day in the air fryer, only to discover that they changed them from white meat to dark thigh meat on the down low thinking no one would notice?? The texture was rubbery and slimy and just not good. What child wants a THIGH meat nugget. This was just the cherry on top for all the corners I have been noticing they are cutting. After coming here for so many years I do not think we will be back.

It’s been a few years since we have been to masons and it did not disappoint. We Love the improvements that have been made on the inside, the food is phenomenal and the drinks were just right. I prefer tots over chips and wanted the route 10 smoked brisket and pork nachos but with tots instead & they gladly made it! So So So GOOD!
