About 1836 Texas Kitchen - steak house in Tyler, Texas

Customer Review Summary

Overall, 1836 Texas Kitchen receives mixed reviews. Many diners enjoyed the food, highlighting the country fried chicken, collard greens, tacos, and crawfish queso. Service was frequently praised as attentive and friendly. However, some reviews pointed out issues with food preparation, like overcooked steaks and incorrect burger orders. There were concerns about the restaurant's atmosphere being loud and poorly lit, as well as the seating arrangement being inadequate. While some items, such as the shrimp and grits and tortilla soup, were recommended, others found certain appetizers and main courses disappointing. The restaurant's unique vibe and complimentary chips and salsa are appreciated, but some patrons felt the food quality did not match the prices.

The food was good. The country fried chicken was good. The greens were really good. The crawfish queso was very good. It took them a couple times to get one of our burgers correct. The horse at the entrance is really in the way when you have to wait for a table and not enough seating in waiting area. I would move the horse and replace the coffee tables with more seating.

Has a cool atmosphere and the service was pretty good. Seems odd to me that a burger is as much or more than a entree with two or three sides. I got the Dobbs steak fries. Had the potential to be a really good meal but had way too much char all over the steak. Every bite has over powering taste of burnt or ash. Sux bc it seemed like a good quality steak and the seasons and cook temp was all good. Also it didn't say on the menu it would have beans on it. Maybe just me but I don't want pinto beans on my fries.

The food was good. I had the chicken tacos, they were spicy and delicious. The service was amazing! It was not well lit and very loud inside, but overall a great place.

Great restaurant! The staff are always very nice and the food is great! I personally love the chicken chimichanga, 1836 mule, collard greens, tacos, chicken fried steak, macho burrito, and tortilla soup. We have been here around 30 times, and it is always really good. I recommend the bowl of tortilla soup on a cold day. It has nice, big chunks of chicken in it as well.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and unique vibe. They give you chips and salsa out of a glass jar that you can pour into a little bowl. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and collard greens. The chicken fried steak was very good. The collard greens had a hint of spice that made them taste exceptional.

My girl and I decided to finally give this place a try (wish we hadn't). The hostess was the best thing about the place, friendly and polite. The easiest way to leave this review is in list form. 1. The drinks - My girl had a Dr. Pepper, which was perfectly normal, other than it sat empty most of the time. I had an old fashion. Which was just a glass of bourbon with a piece of orange peel floating in it. 2. Appetizers - They brought out chips and salsa. The chips tasted like they were cooked in old grease, and the salsa was very mundane. We ordered green chili quest, which was actually quite good. However, it got cold while we sat there with an empty bowl of chip's waiting for our waiter to stop shooting the shit with the kitchen staff instead of checking on his tables (you can see them through the glass). 3. Main courses -She had the carne asada and I had Dobbs Steak Fries Chimichurri. To sum it up quickly, neither of ate the chewy, flavorless (other than the charred dirty grill taste) pieces of meat that were served to us. So, to sum it up. Save yourself $70 and go eat somewhere (anywhere) else.

A co-worker recommended this place and I'm glad we finally had the chance to try it. My waiter was very nice and took very good care of us. We chose to sit in the extended area that was partially outside with heaters and it was nice. The proportions are plenty for sure and I definitely plan on visiting again to try the shrimp and grits.

The wife and I went last night for the first time. It looked really busy but we were greeted and sat immediately. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. I didn't get her name but she had a brown ponytail. The cocktails were solid as were the chips, salsa and queso. My wife loved her shrimp and grits and I really enjoyed the chicken fried chicken. The greens were about the best I've ever had. Highly recommend!
