About Maie Day - steak house in Austin, Texas

Customer Review Summary

Maie Day is highly praised for its delicious, farm-fresh food and memorable dining experiences, particularly for special occasions like anniversaries. The ribeye steak is noted for being perfectly cooked, though some reviewers found it on the saltier side, while side dishes like mashed potatoes and creamed kale received mixed reviews regarding portion sizes and flavor. Starters such as crab claws and grilled oysters received enthusiastic acclaim, although the blooming onion was less favored. Desserts like caramel cheesecake impressed, but the chocolate cake was criticized for its plain taste. Service is generally highlighted as excellent, with staff being friendly and attentive, especially with children. The atmosphere, especially on the patio, can be loud, so indoor dining is often preferred. Complimentary valet parking is also a noted advantage. Overall, many reviewers express strong intentions to return, making it a solid option for both brunch and dinner experiences.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here and we were both left speechless! The food was delicious and tasted both farm fresh and garden fresh which I feel is hard to find in a steakhouse. I am the biggest foodie and have tried so many restaurants around the world. My husband is the pickiest eater in the world and in our 10-years together this is only the second restaurant he has ever left raving about. The other restaurant was a Japanese steak house in Hawaii that sold amazing Wagyu steaks. We were shocked to see the restaurant not filled to capacity with food this amazing!! The entries were amazing but don’t sleep on the blooming onion! It was sweet, juicy, crispy all in one! Just delicious! We will definitely be making this a staple date night spot.

What a lovely and delicious evening! HUGE thanks to Maie Day staff for making our 21st anniversary so memorable. Amazing food, beautiful space and friendly staff. Rachel, our server, was helpful, sweet, and not pushy. Prime rib is melt in your mouth yummy. We had charbroiled oysters, crab claws, fried mahi mahi, sirloin, prime rib, and their world famous triple layer chocolate cake. NOTHING disappointed. Thanks so much!!

Maie Day 8:30 pm Saturday 11/16/2024 Atmosphere Patio seating is all high top, so choose indoor dining if you have back issues. Patio seating was also super loud due to a party in the adjacent hotel meeting room - I mean SUPER loud. (Grateful the accommodating hostess was able to move us inside.) Starters Skip the Bloomed Onion - not amazing and takes up tummy space you will need for other deliciousness. Crab claws get three yums. Don’t worry about them being messy - easiest way to eat buttery crab ever. So smart they come with bread - perfect vehicle for the extra sauce. Grilled oysters also get three yums. Wish I had skipped the bloomed onion and had another oyster. Steak Ribeye is cooked perfectly and extra juicy, but expect it to be extra salty. Three yums. Side Mashed potatoes are typical but also on the salty side. Left me longing for East Side Cafe garlic mashed potatoes (oh how I miss East Side Cafe!). (Hint hint, nudge nudge.) Dessert Caramel cheesecake is four yums. Would be an *out-of-the-park five yums* if the toffee pecans were roasted. (Why were those raw?) Chocolate cake is meh. The cake is plain - doesn’t even taste like chocolate. (Frosting is yummy but the overall experience is like having frosting on bread because the cake is so plain.) (Sorry, pastry chef.) Drinks “Pecan Espresso Martini” (pecan vodka, cazcabel coffee liqueur, licor 43, giffard vanilla liqueur, pecan bitters, espresso) - Overpowered by something (Licor 43? Cazcabel coffee liqueur? Bitters?). If you like sweet espresso martinis, this one is *not* for you. If you like smoky drinks and need a pick-me-up, go for it. “Red Your Mind” (agricole rum, heirloom alchermes, orgeat, lime, holiday pie bitters) - Companion reports, “It grew on me, but I would try something different next time.” Böen Chardonnay was solid. Companion reports same for Argyle Pinot Noir No decaf available for my late-night dessert, and no Bailey’s. (Irish sad face.) People Server Joshua was stellar! Just the right amount of attentive and treated us like life-long friends. Will definitely be requesting a seat in Joshua’s section for future visits. Hostess was super accommodating about the move to indoors from our original patio reservation. Parking Complimentary valet parking was a great surprise! Overall experience 4 yums, mostly thanks to the people. Congratulations on your Michelin status! We will be back!

Although a bit salty, the ribeye was fantastic with a good crust and perfect medium cook. The mashed potatoes were melt in your mouth and had a great buttery taste complimented by a fantastic mac and cheese that fell just short due to a poor choice of breadcrumbs. The white wine was great but the fire and spice cocktail felt far too strong and threw some of the meal’s flavors off. Altogether a great meal for those looking for a cute and cozy steakhouse nestled into South Congress.

Maie Day is a solid brunch option. We went for their Prime Rib Friday brunch and it was a great experience. The last time I was in that space was when it was Central Standard but they’ve made it their own. The atmosphere—from the Matisse-esque mural to the open grill flames to the rustic tables and chairs—gave it a very welcoming and cozy feel. There were a couple of singers with a guitar and (I think) mandolin playing folk/Americana/indie that made for such a fun brunch. The service was great however there did seem to be a drop in attentiveness towards the end of the meal. Not good, not bad, just noticeable. We started with their Roberta Armstrong dip and also got their prime rib, mashed potatoes and creamed kale. Their dip was a fun nod to the Austin of yore and in all the great ways reminded me of Matt’s El Rancho’s Bob’s dip and Magnolia Cafe’s MagMud. Their fried biscuit chips were amazing and such a great flavor and texture. Their generously portioned prime rib ($19) was tender and paired well with a great horseradish. And while their buttery mashed potatoes and crisp, cheesy creamed kale were made really well, the $8 cost of each seemed steep for the portion size (felt like something halfway between 1/3 and 1/2 cup). If I had to do it all over again, I’d spend a bit more money to get one of their appetizers instead of the mashed potatoes or kale. Great dining experience and we’ll be back to try more of their menu. Recommended!

I went to Maie Day to celebrate my girlfriend and I’s anniversary. Hostess and waitress were super sweet, they even gave us a free dessert, however the food disappointed. The steak was the only one we could finish eating. The fries were extremely salty!!! Side dishes were tasty at first but super oily, making me feel unwell as I was eating. The caramel cheesecake was delicious, saving the night along with the service. Overall, I expect more to justify the price.

Tonight we dined at Maie Day and Josh was an exceptional server from start to finish! It was our first time at the restaurant and he walked us through everything on how to order and when. Our cups and plates never went empty and he had fabulous recommendations. He went above and beyond with my 2 year old nephew. My nephew stayed well-behaved for 2.5 hours so we could all enjoy ourselves thanks to the bowls of ice Josh would bring periodically for him to chomp on. Everyone left happy and full of phenomenal food and drink. We are still blown away that we could dine for over 2.5 hours with a 2 year old with no problems. We are ready to recommend Maie Day to all of our friends - I hope they have Josh as their server when they go!
