Customer Review Summary
The Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room offers a mixed experience for diners. Many reviewers appreciate the friendly and knowledgeable staff, live acoustic music, and overall atmosphere, which includes unique architecture and a chill vibe. However, service inconsistencies have been a common criticism, with issues such as long wait times and unfulfilled drink orders noted by multiple patrons. The menu has been described as limited and overpriced, with some dishes not matching their price in quality or portion size. While some guests enjoyed their meals, others felt the food didn't justify the costs, leading to disappointment, particularly regarding reservations that were not honored. Overall, the restaurant has potential but needs to address service issues and menu value to better meet customer expectations.

Just passing thru and arriving late in Lubbock we were happy to find this place still serving after 10:30pm Drinks and food were good. Interesting architecture with the spiral staircase. Live acoustic set was a plus. Very friendly staff.

We went in for a glass of wine and sat at the bar. Service was professional and knowledgeable about wines. Espresso martinis were great, too! We didn't eat. It's very loud and cold.

The main reason the rating is low is the service, which was terrible. Everything took forever, which is inexcusable when they make parties of 12 or more sign paperwork they'll pay a 20% tip. The service was worth half, no more than 10%. The food people ordered was decent, but the menu is extremely limited. It's not a good menu at all. It's also pricey for what you're ordering, at least 33% higher than what it should be. For their prices, I expect a lot more 'overall'. It is a nice looking place, which makes it very deceiving. It looks like a 5-star steakhouse, but delivers an overpriced diner.

Had a great dinner at The Funcky Door. The atmosphere is just a cut above. The food was great and they had live music to set the mood. Very entertaining and elegant.

We made a reservation for 7PM specifically for the top floor. Upon arrival, we waited about five minutes before being seated near the live performer. I mentioned to the host that our reservation was for upstairs—normally, I wouldn’t say anything, but since it was my birthday, I was really looking forward to sitting there. We were then told the area was closed, despite the fact that two groups were already seated up there and the access to the stairs was open. Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for our server to greet us and bring waters and drinks. He mentioned he would make me a complimentary chocolatey s’mores drink, but by the end of the night, that drink never arrived. I was still charged for the one drink I did order. The food itself was good, but not quite worth $40 for a small portion of lobster mac and cheese—something a 9-year-old could probably finish. The portion size didn’t match the price, and while the food was enjoyable, it wasn’t that good. Overall, the service was about a 5/10. What was most disappointing was that my reservation wasn’t honored, and instead of the host proactively explaining the situation, I had to bring it up myself. A simple acknowledgment, like “I’m sorry, but that area isn’t available tonight,” would have gone a long way. Better yet, if the upstairs seating wasn’t an option, it shouldn’t have been available for booking in the first place.

It's been several years since we've attended Funky Door. Last time it was still at the 82nd Street location. Decided to go for date night. Waitress had good timing and was very polite. Food has changed since last time as fondue cheese isn't quite what we remember but still good. Not sure what the attire is, as we had people dressed nicely as we were, but also Crocks, hats backwards, and shorts. Just a real mix for a restaurant trying to be upscale. Speaking of trying to be upscale, the dishes need some attention as well.

This place has a chill vibe. They have an indoor area and an outdoor patio. They had a singer playing guitar who had the most beautiful voice. The waiter was so fun and accommodating . This is definitely a place that you want to just hang out and visit with friends.

First time here. I ordered the pesto chicken pasta. It was super good. Delicious tasting pesto. Good grilled chicken. I also had the cheesecake with chocolate sauce and strawberry. It was really good.
