Customer Review Summary
The food at Mortimer's is generally well-priced and presented with superb flavors, but there are concerns about undercooked chicken in larger portions. The atmosphere is cozy with local charm, and service is consistently great. Highlights include the Mort Burger and fried oysters, while the daily specials can be hit or miss. Some dishes, like the red snapper and banana pudding, received negative reviews, but the staff was accommodating. The food was well priced and presented well and the flavors were superb, but one big problem. The largest slices of chicken were still raw in the center. It was redone and the second time the largest piece was same way. They were packed and I supposed in a hurry. It would have been perfect without the one issue. Only impacts the extra large slice of chicken breast. Otherwise perfect

Laid back, cozy atmosphere with plenty of local southern charm! Service is always great and the home style dishes never disappoint. Full of flavor and always fresh! Decent beer selection and full bar.

Haven’t been here for a very long time. Today it was pretty good. The Mort Burger with ring was a good lunch and my partner enjoyed someone else’s chicken plate lunch. Hope that’s not a regular occurrence as the plate lunches are a big deal here.

Hubby had Oysters Rockefeller hamburger and loved it. French fries crispy and well seasoned. Son had Shrimp Po boy and declared a winner. My advice. Order from the menu. My daily special sucked. Chicken and dumplings were doughy and undercooked; turnip greens and black eyed peas lackluster. I will rave about the yeast rolls. Very popular place. Loud.

Everybody there is nice the atmosphere is wonderful and the service was perfect. Their alcohol drinks are good. However I didn't like the food, I ordered the red snapper Pontchartrain some of it was good but the red snapper was nasty. I had the side of Italian spinach and it was gross. The banana pudding was disgusting they were nice enough to take it off the check, so we ordered two different pies and when we got home and tried them they were both nasty. But they were nice people, and I will not fault them for it

A cross between a fine steakhouse from 1970 and a dive bar... lol. But the food is seriously good. I got the Mort Burger Rockefeller with fried oysters and it was unbelievable good. Pretty much a chopped steak on a roll with spinach, cheese and fried oysters! I couldn't eat the whole thing. My wife got chicken Pontchatrain and it was amazing. Only started going here last year because it's in a spot that looks less than hospitable but it's not. They have parking across the street so it's easier to get in and out now. Highly recommend this hole in the wall that's got great steaks, oysters, burgers, seafood and chops. Definitely worth the drive from the burbs.

Been here many times and never disappoints. Southern comfort food, oysters, sandwiches, salads, they got you covered at a reasonable price. Plenty of local beer on tap, full bar, which is comfortable, and seating all around. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. The only somewhat drawback that can't be helped is the parking, though there is room on the street and a lot across the street (not sure if that is legal though).

Don't forget about Mortimer's! Great food, great people, great patio, and great drinks. They are still going strong with delicious steaks, seafood, and Cajun fare. We started with the bacon wrapped chicken livers (not my usual choice as I'm not normally a liver fan) and yet they were delicious. The catfish is somehow light and rich, the breading is divine and the portion is generous. The bread for the po-boys is tasty and soft (not scratchy on the roof of your mouth) yet still just the right amount of chewy. The fried oysters have a good clean flavor and were a good size for the sandwich. The red beans and rice are always a great side. Try to leave room for a lemon ice box or fudge pie, you won't be disappointed.
