I don't normally write reviews, but I had a very disappointing experience here on Valentine's Day. My husband and I arrived around 8:05 for an 8:15 reservation. We were greeted and seated quickly, but it was all downhill from there. It was about 20 minutes before we were able to place our drink orders and quite a while to receive them. After another wait, we received our appetizers (which we did enjoy). And that was the extent of our service. We waited, and waited, and waited. Around 9:25, 3 couples in our section gave up on their food and left. The remaining 5 or 6 tables began discussing the wait and wondering what was going on. The server did come back around a couple times to say the kitchen was working on food. Finally, at 10:05, the manager (not really sure, she didn't introduce herself) came around to speak to us. At this point, nobody had received any food beyond appetizers, so my husband requested our check. It took 3 tries for us to receive the correct check. We were finally able to leave at 10:33, which was too late for us to have any real options for Valentine's dinner. We received neither an apology nor an explanation. Conveniently, the "contact us" link on their website doesn't work (screenshot included).

Food is mid. Not worth the price AT ALL. We went on Valentine’s Day and even though they weren’t packed it took two hours for us to get bread. The waitress didn’t even apologize. We probably spoke to her for a total of two minutes for the 2.5hours we were there. Drinks tasted good but that’s where we should’ve left. We had to ask three different people to order and ended up walking to the bar to pay so we could get out. The Mac n cheese was shameful. Total waste of money and what was supposed to be a romantic night. Embarrassed that Memphis keeps this place in business with all the young chefs and restaurants that would kill for this location. Will never go again or recommend to anyone.

The staff was very nice and pleasant. The food was superb and the Chef made sure that everything was to our liking and that we was satisfied with everything. The waitress was so kind and helpful. I had a all around excellent and pleasant experience at Mesquite. The food was on point the presentation was excellent. Again thank you to the staff and Chef at Mesquite on Union.

We had reservations for 7:15 on Friday night. When we arrived, there were two people on the first floor a party of 8 in a room and us. During our meal it did not fill up. Atmosphere was ok, floor was worn, but walls looked good. They had Nat King Cole playing on the speakers. Jazz was our server, and she oozes Memphis. Delightful lady. She recommended the spinach dip and the lobster balls, as they were made from scratch. The spinach dip was a little too salty but was fine. The lobster balls were very good, especially the sauce they were served with. I had the prime rib, medium rare. The stake is only about 3/4" thick, so when the cooked it, one end was medium rare, but the other end was medium well to well done. That said the flavor was good and the meat was tender. The potatoes were good, but the salad tasted like it had been pulled from salt water and put on the plate. In summary not a bad experience, but at these prices I expected a lot more. To be honest, it feels like a place that used to have a chef, but now is staffed by short order cooks. They are trying to recreate techniques, but don't necessarily get them right because they don't understand why the technique works, they just attempt to recreate how the chef used to do things.

Small and intimate but still well lit enough for a business dinner. They have light music playing 90s indi pop which was nice. Staff are well put together. Bathrooms are always a reflection of an establishments cleanliness and this steakhouse had a clean bathroom. The drinks were top shelf amd well priced. The drinks were made perfectly and very yummy.

I celebrated my birthday here with a large party of 19 and had an awesome experience! The food and service were top notch!! The servers were pleasant and prompt and the manager, Jess, and entire staff were great. They even gave me a birthday card.

Very disappointed. First time visiting and decided to go for the $20 Monday night ribeye deal. Felt bad for our server, he was the only one, and service was very slow because of that. Managers should've called in someone else to help. One server is unacceptable to your guests. Salad was small, and steak was over-peppered. My boyfriends steak seemed to be all fat, and hardly any meat. Potatoes were dry also. We left hungry. I understand it's a deal for a reason, but I expected more from mesquite. Would hate to have paid $40 for the steak we received.

Albeit aesthetically dated, still tons of potential to be had. I’ll begin by saying the food was great. The taste was in line with what would be expected from a 4 star restaurant, but from there, it left much to be desired. There wasn’t really anything wrong, buuuutttt: the location was fine, but in order to dine there you needed to get really lucky or pay for parking across the street in the garage. Not the end of the world, and if you’re going for the impression route, then it’s fine. No valet offered, so it’s a do it yourself deal, so if they’re a 10 and you’re aiming to impress, save this place for later. The building itself has some character as it’s older, set in the historical portion of downtown Memphis, but the interior is in need of a major facelift to bring it more up to date with a new look and feel that would really wow customers. Bringing in some new art, a change of music piped in (today was 90s pop 😳), and a slight feel of industrial posh would really set this place apart. I’d still go again, but some touch ups and more variety would go a long way.
