My wife and I were visiting Bend to run some shopping errands, when out of nowhere, she got a craving for mashed potatoes and gravy. Like, REAL mashed potatoes and gravy. We were on Highway 97 driving North, and we happened to glance to our left to see a stone siding building with a black silhouette of a steer. We immediately turned on our left turn signal and began making our way into the parking lot for Blacksteer Steakhouse & Saloon. It was shortly after 2:30pm (a half hour before they were officially open for the evening). My wife walked up to the main entrance assuming that we were too early and we would need to figure out what their hours were. The front door was unlocked, so she walked in. The host informed her that they actually open at 3, but he still welcomed her in and said he would seat her anyway. We perused over the menu and ordered some drinks. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and the buttermilk fried chicken and mashed potatoes to split as our entree. It’s a LOT of food. Obviously the crab cakes arrived first, and my wife dug right in! She claims to have never found a great crab cake in Central Oregon. Up until now, the best crab cake she had ever had was in New York City. But today, Blacksteer Steakhouse changed her favorite. I’m not a fan of seafood, so I can’t speak to the quality…but she ate both of them. She commented on the yummy, garlic aioli, that replaces the traditional tartar sauce. Then, one beer down and an appetizer later, our buttermilk friend chicken arrives! Gently placed on a bed of pillowy sour cream mashed potatoes, and nuzzled up against a mound of fresh, sautéed green beans, were the GIANT pieces of moist, crispy chicken. Half of a chicken!!! Breast, thigh and drumstick with flaky, crunchy, buttermilk coating taking up a large portion of the plate. Perfectly seasoned. Chef’s kiss, delicious! And don’t even get me started on the warm cornbread and honey butter!!! Oh my Lordy…I could eat that stuff until I die of gluttony. Once we ate more food than two 40+ year olds should, our server, Brandon came back around to ask us if we were ready to pay our bill, or if we were interested in hearing the dessert options. We agreed to hear what the options were, since this was our first time trying the place out. We decided on the 4 berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. The cobbler’s oat topping was perfectly toasted and crunchy paired with the slight tartness of the berries within! Overall, I would proclaim that we had a very pleasant impromptu dining experience at the Blacksteer Steakhouse & Saloon, and we are already planning on visiting again to try other menu items. Thank you, Blacksteer Steakhouse for providing a great new restaurant to enjoy some quality, delicious cuisine.

We used to love this place- but they changed their menu, and we are less impressed. They are trying to go the traditional steakhouse route and have selections we are less impressed with. The last time we went, the service in the bar was horrible (3-4x prior we loved the place and had great waitstaff)- but food was good. The staff soured us enough it'd been probably 6 months. This time the staff was good- and the food was less impressive. My husband ate some of mine, but it was the most over salted steak I'd ever been served and far too lean a cut to get away with it. The soup was fine... hearty. But nothing I'd order again. We had the special because nothing in the main menu was that enticing. It'll be a while before we try again.

I can’t speak to the quality of the food because we didn’t have a chance to eat anything except a crab cake appetizer which was admittedly delicious. With that said, I am not sure by which metrics anyone with a reservation for (3) should be expected to wait 76 minutes for their meal. I’m not a person that leaves many reviews and always consider the circumstances when leaving less than neutral. However, from my perspective our visit was a complete failure starting off with being informed that they had no bread, no chicken and out of the brand of wine we wanted. Fine, nothing that can’t be worked around. But, after 60 minutes and exhausting your drinks, one can’t help but to begin noticing what’s going on around you. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger disconnect in managing. No communication, no sense of urgency and no customer priority. It’s as if the entire staff was saying “that’s not my job”. Dirty tables, lines of people waiting to be seated and us waiting for our food with empty glasses. They even ran out of martini glasses and instead of washing any they told the customers next to us that they couldn’t provide their drinks. Anyway, our server was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. Unfortunately, we couldn’t wait any longer as we had plans and it became a matter of principle but our server completely understood and offered our wine and appetizer on the house. Much appreciated. I’ll chalk this up to a bad night for this establishment in the hopes that they are experiencing a learning curve. Probably stick with our usual well established and consistent steak house from now on though.

Overall we’d like to give it a 5 star review considering all that we ordered. I’d like to start with the appetizers, we throughly enjoyed the oysters, very tasty and fresh with the lemon and spicy cocktail sauce. We also really enjoyed the Mac N’ Cheese, one of my favorites in town, love the crispy part on top. The shrimp was also pretty good, very generous pieces of shrimp… the batter seemed a bit overdone, however we still enjoyed it. The mushrooms were also very good, I’d recommend slightly more butter or a light sauce over the top of them. We loved the mashed potatoes. On to the steak, it was pretty good, however lacked some flavor in my opinion, possibly the thickness of the cut and cooking it, it also has a very thick marble around the edges, I think with the thickness of the 20 oz steak it’s definitely difficult to cook it medium rare without loosing the flavor. Never the less it was still pretty tasty. It was my partners birthday and they did deliver a free desert, which was super yummy and welcomed. The martinis are a must, I love that you put a couple olives on there! The service was great, we’d definitely go back!

Not the best experience. Food was mediocre, would have sent back except we had been waiting there over an hour after ordering. I did appreciate the decorative flairs on the food. The green beans and creamed spinach were good. The wait staff was friendly and the atmosphere was decent.

This was our second attempt, but first time dining here. The first time we were turned away after waiting in line, when the Restaurant and Bar were empty... It seemed like a very inexperienced opening, something to do with online reservations.... You know you never get a second chance for a first impression.... So here goes with our second attempt at dining here. Overall the Food was great. Bar was limited, but the drinks we had were good. Excellent service. The Prime Rib was good... They say slow cooked for 12 hours. It was tough, and usually when slow smoking a Prime Rib you sear it at the end giving it a crisp and Tasty outside. If they oven cooked it it would be Seared at the start and then slow cooked at the end. They may have said it Rotisserie Cooked... In any case it wasn't seared at any point. I had the 20 oz Three Sisters cut... For a $40.00 cut of Prime Rib it was, Definitely tough, when it shouldn't be. Slightly disappointed in A Friday night Prime Rib. Buttered Mashed potatoes were excellent, Garlic String beans were good. Steakhouse Chilli was Incredible, the Steak in it was Extremely Tender and well Flavored. The Bruschetta was Excellent. The Creme Brulee was good. Overall we felt that it was a good experience and value. We would come back. 🤠🇺🇲

We attended there soft opening and had a great meal in the dining room. Just had our second meal there. It was delicious. Loved the Happy Hour Oysters and I tried the Cauliflower and it was amazing. Can’t wait to celebrate my birthday dinner there.

We ordered an appetizer of brussel sprouts (a little overcooked which gave them a chip effect) but the goat cheese and roasted almonds were really good with it. The steak was good, small and mighty. The mac and cheese was bland and dry. It didn't have a sauce effect or ooey gooeyness which I tend to look for mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes tasted off to me as well as the butter that came with the lobster so I just didn't eat it. The baked beans were good. I would definitely order that again. The pulled pork was on point. The ribs were on point. The chicken had a good seasoning in the barbecue sauce but was on the dry side. But that's okay because my dog's got to enjoy it later. The lobster seasoning was good. Unfortunately it was overcooked so it had a rubbery texture to it. The customer service was good and I would definitely give them five stars. The atmosphere I gave three stars because the bathrooms were dirty. I came here for the experience because I get really excited when I hear about a new steakhouse coming in. I personally would not dine in here again.
