About Redd - steak house in Rochester, New York
Haute restaurant serving California wine country-inspired fare & wine in a sleek, roomy environment.
Customer Review Summary
Redd offers a great dining experience with attentive service and a lively atmosphere, though it can get crowded and loud, so reservations are recommended. Many reviewers highly recommend the Lobster Risotto, describing it as mindblowing and perfectly textured, alongside standout dishes like glazed pork belly and caramelized scallops. However, some dishes, such as the Seafood stir-fry and chocolate tres leches dessert, received mixed reviews for being overly salty or disappointing. The cocktails and wines are well received, and the overall cleanliness and upscale environment enhance the experience. Service quality varies, with some noting slow response times, but many guests appreciate the friendly staff. While some diners found the restaurant fell short of being the "best" in Rochester, overall, Redd is considered a solid choice for special occasions and date nights.

Had a great anniversary dinner here last week. Bar was a bit crowded to get a drink before dinner, but the bartenders were attentive and willing to bring drinks around the bar. We had excellent service from Jeffery from start to finish. Followed his recommendations and had a fantastic dinner with apps, main course and desserts. A special treat in Rochester that is worth a visit!

Please try the Lobster Risotto! Mindblowing! The texture of the rice was perfect and it was heavenly till the last bite. Glazed pork belly was amazing as well! Caramalized scallops were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The Seafood stir-fry was a bit too salty for me and the desserts could be better But the risotto!!!! Had me too happy to complain. It was a crowded at dinnertime and quite loud. Reserve in advance!

For our anniversary, my girlfriend and I decided to visit this restaurant after hearing rave reviews. From start to finish, the food, service, and ambiance exceeded our expectations. We were greeted with two complimentary glasses of champagne to mark the occasion. Everything we ordered tasted absolutely great. We can’t wait to return for another celebration in the future!

I liked Redd- my food was good, the service was good, the wine was excellent. I appreciated the upscale environment, but I felt for the price, there were choices I would have made in each dish to take them to that 5 star level. The tuna tartare, for example, was best when the bite contained apple, but there wasn’t quite enough apple to go around. The crustini in the bouillabaisse were excellent, but the broth could have been further developed. I certainly can see myself bringing guests to Redd when in Rochester, but had a few notes.

This is one of my favorite places to eat! The food is amazing. Everything I've ever had there is delicious. The place is very clean and the service is top notch. I walked in and sat at the bar and the bartender walked right up to me and asked me what I wanted. That alone impressed me because at most other places with a bar, I'm used to being ignored by the bartender for 5 minutes until they find time to take my order. Drinks were well prepared and the bartender was enjoyable to interact with. Definitely going back!

The food was pretty good but I went in with the expectation set that this was supposed to be the best restaurant in Rochester. I would say it falls short of such standards. The best restaurant in a city should consistently deliver on every single dish in the menu imo, however here some dishes were excellent and some were so-so. The lobster risotto and grilled strip steak were excellent. The scallops were pretty good. The trout muffin was decent. The chocolate tres leches dessert was however quite disappointing, I would say it tasted worse than even generic desserts I could grab at Walmart. We also received some complimentary cookies which were quite bad but can’t really complain since we did not pay for them. Servers were quite nice but I would say the service is a bit slow even by fine dining standards, nevertheless was not an issue for me and I already knew it was the case going in. Overall still a great place to dine, but most other places where I spend a couple hundred dollars for a meal have usually been much better.

Would definitely get the tuna tartare, mezcal cocktail (Arena Roma), and grilled chicken main again. Smoked trout starter was very salty and one dimensional. Decadent chocolate cake, good to share with 3-4 people who need a punch of chocolate.

Came here for the first time to celebrate my birthday with my husband. Reservation was easy to make and change online. It even asks what occasion you are celebrating, hence giving the expectation that there might be a little something special. Well, nothing special happened. It was a typical dining experience. Wait staff are running around servicing multiple tables. The restaurant is full. Takes a while for our waitress to get back to us (but she was awesome, very cheerful and energetic). Food and cocktails were good but not mind-blowing. Portions were just right to also order dessert without stuffing yourself. Dessert came with a couple chocolate chip cookies compliments of the chef. That was a nice gesture. Overall, it's a nice restaurant to have date night that won't break the wallet. I've been wanting to come here since before it opened so my expectations were perhaps too high.
