While many reviewers enjoyed the food, some found it bland, and experiences with service varied, with instances of both outstanding and disappointing encounters. Ambiance received positive remarks, especially with live music, and several patrons noted it as a great spot for special occasions. This is an old school restaurant with first-class service. I don't know if the all male, tuxedo wearing wait-staff is by design, but the service was amazing. Valet parking is extremely convenient for $10, and the lighting inside the restaurant, with the roaring fireplace on a cold day, makes this an incredibly cozy atmosphere. The separate, classic bar area is a great place to grab an after dinner cocktail. We absolutely love the ambiance of this place and are looking forward to our next visit. We were so moved by this place that we even joined some other folks on the dance floor. The tallented jazz and sax player set the mood, and my wife and I had a wonderful time. A+ and one of my new favorite places. It's been here forever, and sadly, this is only my 1st time visiting... but not my last!

We decided to give this place a try as we always drive past it and have been living in Detroit for a few years now. The service when you first enter is slightly cold and not friendly. Our waiter, however, was very friendly and gave us suggestions on what would be best to order. You get a lot of food- an appetizer platter, soup, bread, and salad before your actual food comes out which is nice but definitely fills you up quick. The food itself was pretty bland and not amazing, which makes it not worth coming here more than once. The ambience was nice- it definitely has the old school feel to it which is cool. If you really want to try it, I would come to check it off the list but I think there’s better options out there.

Absolutely perfect night! We had dinner first. I had the Eggplant Parmesan and my daughter had a veal dish. They were delicious. We took the shuttle to the theater. It made life so easy. We came back after our show and had a drink at the bar. It is traditional Italian food. The atmosphere is old school which I LOVE!!

Going there for a good 20 years! First time I was so disappointed with the whole family! New manager, new faces, slowest service I have ever received in my entire life!!! And leaving from there it was another embarrassment, when waiter runs after me and telling me,it was short of funds??? I counted back to her right on the street !! Actually after leaving 20% tip which they requested for a larger party ( 5 adults 2 children) I left $50 on the top of that which included 3 bottles of wines! Well Mr “V” if you keep that manager in there, you won’t see me again or any of my friends ever again!!

We went for Valentine’s Day and it was not a good experience and it was our first time at this place. We arrived on time for our reservation we didn’t get seated til almost an hour later then they ran out of the special that they was offering for $150. A couple was seated that was 40minutes late. Then when asked could I speak to the manager my waitress said and I quote” he doesn’t want to come out to argue with anyone” he said to just take it off your bill. It wasn’t about taking anything off of our bill I just wanted clarity and understanding seeing that they are offering the special February 14,15, and 16th.

Probably the best Italian I’ve ever had, this place was great! Loved the atmosphere of the whole place, music playing volume just right, waiter was great, helped us through the menu and was super attentive. The feel of this place was very homey to me, you could tell there were some regulars, great mom and pop feel. We were prepared for business casual, but they didn’t bat an eye. Had the cold shrimp 10/10, bread 10/10, then the salad 10/10, minestrone 10/10, and all capped off with the breast of chicken with risotto,(20/10) food was perfect compliment to a great experience! If I’m ever back in Detroit I’ll definitely return!

I came to Mario's tonight with two friends. Philip was our waiter. He was very attentive. He even sang Happy Birthday to my friend with us which was so nice! The food was incredible. I cannot wait to come back!!!
