About Mastro's Steakhouse - steak house in Huntington Beach, California

Snazzy chophouse serves decadent plates & drinks to glamorous crowds in a plush supper-club setting.

Customer Review Summary

Mastro's Steakhouse offers an upscale dining experience with a mixture of exceptional food and service, but some service inconsistencies detract from the overall experience. Patrons enjoyed the rich flavors of appetizers like Bone Marrow and a notable seafood tower, while main courses like the Filet Mignon and Porterhouse steak received high praise. However, side dishes did not stand out as remarkable, and some dishes were noted to be overly salty. Service varied; while some praised attentive waitstaff, others encountered poor service and long wait times at the front desk. Ambiance was appreciated, especially during the holiday season, although some felt the seating areas could be too dimly lit. Despite the high prices, many guests enjoyed their meals, suggesting that it’s a worthwhile experience, albeit one that may require a significant budget or a generous guest.

This is a well-known upscale restaurant, and while the experience had its highlights, it fell slightly short of expectations. We arrived quite late in the evening, so the restaurant wasn’t very busy. Thanks for e a reservation, we were seated promptly, but it took a surprisingly long time for a server to come and take our order. For starters, we tried the Bone Marrow, which was rich and flavorful, though not particularly memorable. The salad was fresh and well-prepared. For the main course, we ordered the Filet Mignon and Scallops. The Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, while the scallops were decent but lacked the wow factor I was hoping for. As for the side dishes, the Brussels Sprouts were nicely roasted, and the Lobster Mashed Potatoes were creamy with a hint of luxury from the lobster, though neither stood out as exceptional.

Here is my opinion, the food and the service are great but, out of my pricr range. I went there because I was invited by one of our bankers for dinner. When I saw the menu, I wasn't sure what to order because the prices were too high. He told me to go ahead and order whatever that I like and not to worry about the pricing. So, I ordered a Porterhouse stake. Keep in mind that if you want to order any sides, it's going to be an extra charge for every single item, and they are not cheap. But the food and service were excellent. My porterhouse was fantastic, served on a hot sizzling plate, and the sea food tower that they ordered for appetizer was fantastic. Akso, the bread basket is great. Just remember, if you go there, you'll need a banker to go with you to pay your bill 😉

Upscale steak house. Dress code noted as formal, but did see people wearing tennis shoes and jeans. Customer service was top-notch. Pricing is up there with steak houses like Flemings and Ruth chris. Paid a little more than $400 for 3 people with tip. Parking is either valet or paid parking structure. The food was as to be expected, great.

It's the most beautiful time of the year! Late Post: We are back to Mastro’s for the holiday dinner in early December. The same good food quality here as Mastro’s Ocean Club they serve as always. They did a great job with presenting the seafood tower. We enjoyed it very much. They never disappoint us! The main sever was being proactive and attentive. We had a party of 9 and he remembered each others and took care of any requests very quickly. He was the best server at the restaurant. Only one thing I didn’t like about is that the interior lights at the Costa Mesa location seem a little darker than the Newport Beach location maybe it’s just our table where located at the corner that we often had a hard time reading the menus. Unfortunately, the tiny table candle didn’t help that much… However, I would say this location feels more private and festive especially around holiday season. Valet Parking Available for $10

The concierge ladies at the front counter should be replaced. The 2 caucasians and 1 asian petite gal displayed subpar service standards, were incapable of handling seamless guests checkin process. They were busy chit chatting amongst themselves, this resulted mistakes in the assignment of our table. This is despite us reaching the restaurant at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm reservation. We checked in at the front desk at 7.15pm sharp, those 3 ladies at the front told us to take a seat first. After waited for 5 minutes, I checked with the 3 ladies on the approx. time to be seated at our table. They said pls wait we will get back. So we waited for another 10 minutes no sign of ushering and we went to use the restroom. Upon the return and the time was already past 7.35pm, no signs from these 3 ladies. We went to enquire again, they responded in a bimbo fashion that MR XXX was already seated. 1 of the blonde lady even argued with me, do you still want to be seated?? Her stupidity at work in the mixed up of guests’ tables resulted in wrong table assignment and she has the cheek to argue, speak to us in that condesending tone. What a joke to hire these useless ladies ! There is no proper place to put your nice purse, bags and they did not even offer any. Even when asked for an extra chair for our bags, that petite asian front desk lady looked at us in disbelief and dismissed it as none is available. The service at this location is VERY SUB PAR as compared to the Beverly Hills location ! The consolation is that our server Jude and Leo have been great at offering good food recommendations and making us feeling happier through out the dinner. The foods are well exexuted and good. The manager Andy apologised but we would highly suggest Andy to look into beefing up their front desk team. Those gals are attrocious, ought to be thrown out and replaced with better ones.

We ordered rib eye, A5 wagu, lobster bisque, Caesar salad, and marrow bones. They are all too salty. But the bread is delicious and the live singer is awesome.

Was craving some steak to treat myself after having a Christmas window shopping through Santana Row and the Valley Fair Mall. It was packed full of Christmas parties, so the FOH staff recommended I head to the bar. It was very lively for a Friday night and they had a live piano singer. The only thing that I would say bad about this place was that the bar was very busy. I had to ask my bartender 3 times for water. I know it was a busy night, but I was seated at the bar for a while ordering my steak and meal. He even forgot to add in my truffle cauliflower. I tried asking a bartender who wasn’t busy but she ignored me. I know it’s holidays and super busy, but if someone has a full on dinner at the bar, a glass of water would be nice without having to ask for it considering the atmosphere.

Always a pleasant experience here. For those with corporate credit cards, you’re going to love eating here. Only loss of a star was due to my bone in filet, it tasted okay, just not incredible. Everything is easily shareable. Please make the bread taste worse, so I don’t want to eat all of these - ha!
