Customer Review Summary

The Huntington Beach Beer Company features a welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff. Patio seating offers a good view of Main Street, enhancing the experience. Food quality is mixed; while dishes like steak salads and pizzas are praised, items like calamari and fries received criticism for being unappealing or poorly prepared. The beer selection was noted to be limited compared to previous years, and the lack of variety disappointed some customers. Service can be slow during peak times, yet some guests enjoyed the upbeat vibe and music. Overall, the restaurant has potential but needs significant improvements in food quality and beer offerings to satisfy repeat customers.

We enjoyed our time here. The staff was welcoming, helpful and beyond helpful. The young gentleman saw we were looking for a table on the patio, took my name down and made sure we got a table. Now to the food. We had a steak salad that was very good. The steak was cooked to our liking, we had a kids cheese pizza that we good and we had calamari. I included the calamari picture because this is where this place needs to work hard on. The bed of chopped, dried, visibly "tired" lettuce held wafer thin, and an incredibly small amount of what may possibly be called calamari in some weird universe. This can greatly be improved and I would love to pay a few $ more.

I give 3 stars for food. I came on a Saturday with 4 friends and they seated us pretty quick! This restaurant and bar has outdoor and indoor seating. You get a good view of Main Street when seated outdoors. I ordered the cowboy bowl which I mainly ordered for it’s steak, just to be disappointed by how much fat and chewy it was. We also got the California Sandwich and pizza to share. The fries that came with the sandwich were also not good… they were hard.. hopefully with this review they focus on kitchen a little more. Additionally, my waitress was great but she had other tables to take care of and we had to keep asking the hostess for help.. it’s a nice spot for a drink tho!

We came here on Cinco de mayo, the place is busy but not as busy as some other places. It plays good music, and people dance and have good vibes. They offer beers on tap and any drink you want. I had their mule, and they go heavy on Alcohol so it's a win for customers. We ordered meat pizza and their calamari and it is delicious. We had IPA's and margaritas and other beers. This is a nice chill place. Service was a little slow at first, but once the server was able to serve us, it was better. We sat in the patio since it was too loud inside.

Visited early on a Thursday Evening. They had Pizza for the weekly special, but decided to order the BBQ hickory burger and my wife ordered the fish and chips I substituted the salad for fries. The salad had a lot of other veggies and cheese. Burger was huge and tasted great. The fish and chips were also great. Only let down was the number of local drafts available (although 805 on tap is nice). We will be back.

In short, the place is great for an afternoon bite and beer but I wish they had a bigger beer selection. The service makes up for it. A bit more details, The server with the curly hair was very nice and on point with her work. Sorry forgot her name. Mozzarella sticks came out piping hot and fiesta bowl was very good. Very filling. The food is good bar food. I also like the location if you’re walking down to the peer after to work off some of that beer ha. They have a good variety of beers but I wish the selection was bigger. Lots of TVs to watch sporting events which makes it easy to watch from any angle. I also like they put on the game audio rather than random music when there are good games going on. Park a couple blocks away and walk. You’re not finding anything close.

Saw USC beat LSU here and the bartender hooked me up with a free beer. Place is upstairs and lively!

Great view with good food and beer. Hearty burger, average fries. The fish in the Mermaid Bowl was wonderful, but the beans and cabbage plain. Poke bowl was traditional style. Enjoyed our Kona beers!

A small gastropub that's easy to miss that boasts a killer balcony, good brews and tasty food. This was what my review would have said 7 years ago when I first came to this place. The food was never out of this world, but it was good. They used to have several beers they brew themselves on tap and the atmosphere was electric being that close to the beach. That place has died. Now with only about 5 in-house beers on tap and no IPA, one of the most popular beers in the craft beer world right now, you can tell immediately the passion for beer has come and gone. I was directed to a large TV on the wall to figure out what in-house brew I wanted and was dissapointed to find they only had like 5. Years before, I remember having to choose from around 15-20 choices. After I chose my brew, we had to ask that our table, which seemed to be permanently sticky, be wiped down once more. The menu has seemed to get bigger, but not better. We started with some spinach dip that had an off flavor and was served with chips that were flavorless and hard. My daughter had their pizza, which ended up being the highlight of our meal, my son had their grilled cheese kids meal, which was served on a huge piece of sourdough bread, something that one-year-olds don't care for. My wife ordered the pub style fish and chips which actually wasn't bad, but the breading wasn't cooked all the way and tasted eerily familiar to corndog breading. Although, the fries that accompanied it were very good. I ordered the shrimp pasta with vodka sauce. My pasta sauce had a strange seafood flavor that didn't come from the shrimp, which was juicy and delicious but underseasoned, and as a whole the dish was dissapointing and tasted anything but fresh. Strange flavors and bad smells had us questioning the freshness of most of the food. Overall nobody finished anything and we left unsatisfied. My wife and I both had stomach aches later that evening and into the next day, so the food safety practices concerned us even though I won't try to draw any correlating lines. All in all, this place has really slid. Food was bad, drinks were dssappointing and seemed to take a backseat which is weird considering it's a brew house. Atmosphere was ok and staff was nice and helpful. This place is in serious need of a makeover and not cosmetically. It has the potential to be a charming brew spot with good food and views, but the lack of execution on anything we saw will only lead us to believe that this place will close down eventually. This place helped me fall in love with California and eventually move my family across the country to live here. Each time I've came back here, we visit once every couple of years, it gets a little worse, but this time it really took a big step. I'm begging you, as a fan of this place, hire a chef that knows what he is doing and get him in the kitchen and start over from scratch. Reinvest in the beer and let it do the talking. This place has the potential to be a really great place to eat, drink or catch a game. I hope the owner smartens up and stops expecting customers to pay for mediocre food and drink. It would be a shame to watch them close this place, but as of now with the product they are putting out, it's only a matter of time.
