The Hard Shell

We drove 3 hours for this restaurant and can I say that it was so worth it! The family and I went during happy hour, so the prices were great. The food was amazing (I wish the tacos were a bit spicy, but that's just me), the seafood was fresh, and the combination of all the ingredients just went so well together. And the service was great too! Will definitely go here again during my next trip!

Fire 🔥 Seriously, it's so good. We're from SC, in Richmond for a vacation. We wanted to find a restaurant within walking distance to our hotel, so we chose The Hard Shell. The brussel sprouts were amazing, the ribs delicious, the dungeness so good, the salmon incredible, and the carrot cake was phenomenal. Our boys loved their burger and chicken tenders. We wish we had a restaurant like this in our city. Great first impression of Richmond's food scene.

We came across this place accidentally even though it's been in business for many years. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We started with calamari and then my husband had the Angus burger and I had the fish tacos (s erved with a delicious and fresh side salad). We will come back soon and often!

Loved my lunch date! Great food and service. My Brussel sprouts were delicious enough to be my lunch. Also ordered the special, a mahi sandwich with pineapple salsa. Blackened perfectly! Should have opted for side salad over fries bc I nvr touched them or the top of the bun. Hubby enjoyed fish tacos. Definitely will visit again.

Arrived a few minutes prior to the reservation time and was promptly seated. Service was awesome, while the food met our expectations. I would recommend you try it, if not just for the pleasure of enjoying a great downtown Richmond dining experience.

We had a very nice dinner here. The shrimp and scallop with the orange sticky rice was perfect. The hardshell pasta dish was lovely. Seafood cooked perfectly. Service was friendly and pleasant. You can park across the street in the parking garage and they will stamp it for you. Also had the chocolate torte. Delicious!
