About Rio Brazil Steakhouse - steak house in Richmond, Virginia

Customer Review Summary

The reviews for Rio Brazil Steakhouse reveal a mixed experience. Some patrons appreciate the extensive meat selection and unique charcoal flavor, praising the excellent service. However, issues with pricing transparency and long wait times for food and drinks have been raised. One customer was particularly upset about being charged more for whiskey than initially quoted, which led to their decision not to return. While the salad bar received criticism for being bare, the overall ambiance and professional staff were noted positively. Accessibility concerns were highlighted, indicating challenges for elderly or wheelchair-bound guests. Overall, the steakhouse offers a rich dining experience, but service consistency and pricing practices need improvement.

I frequented this restaurant very often months ago. I was in the area today and decided to drop by as I know they have a large whiskey selection and I’m a bourbon connoisseur. I always ask prices first as certain bars will charge more than others. It was 2 new ladies behind the bar. I was given a price for a particular pour $17. I was served the drank, I finished it and moved on to my next pour. 30 minutes later… The lady came back and proceeded to tell me that it’s not $17 an oz and was now $33. If I’d known before and my knowledge of whiskey, it would’ve been an easy NO. As a local business owner if I tell a customer a price I honor it. Even if I mispriced it. I know to correct it next time. That did not happen here. And it really bothered me that I closed my tab and left. I’m well known in the establishment. I’ve spent a heck of a lot of money there also. I will not return again specifically for this reason. This was very unexpected as when I was coming regularly I never had this problem. I loved this place and rated it very high but not after this experience. I value customer service and as the customer here I was not valued due to a staff mistake. I’m not one to make a big fuss or altercation in situations. So I gave no push back and paid it.but I was unpleasant with how it was handled. Lastly $33 per oz for a $200 bottle is insane. That’s $825 4x the actual bottle cost and well over secondary value of $400ish. My last visit!

My experience was nice. The only thing I didn't like was the meat servers kept skipping past me. So I really didn't get that much meat, but the few pieces I received they tasted really good. The cold bar was good, too. They had a nice selection of cheese, pasta, and sliced cold meats. The hot bar was just ok.

I'll start off by saying that the other place similar to this is my favorite restaurant, but tonight we decided to give Rio Brazil a try. I'm glad we did! Everything we tried was great. Their meat is cooked over charcoal, so you get a different flavor; the service was excellent. We will definitely be back.

We had dinner for 2 and the food took way too long. We chose the buffet option, and the meats would take way too long from one option to the next. It wasn’t just us, but we could see that everyone around us was also waiting for a long time. Any drinks I ordered also took long. Because of the wait times between the food, we ended up just eating from the basic buffet. The food is good and ambience as well but the service need a lot of improvement.

Overall our meal was great! Service is just lacking. We came in and waited 45 minutes for a table which is not a problem. We sat at the bar and the bartender was honestly terrible. It was a disaster, unorganized and we sat there for over 30 minutes in front of him before he even asked what we wanted. They need to keep a bar back that can help with table tickets, dishes, etc while the bartender focuses on the bar guests alone. It was a cool experience but I’m not sure I’d return.

Been to the "other" local Brazilian steak house several times. It was refreshing to experience a similar dining experience without having to deal with the whole Short Pump mall atmosphere and traffic mayhem. But all of that aside, Rio Brazil Steakhouse delivers high end food for dinner or lunch. Too many tasty meats to mention, all with the option to eat to your heart's content. A very well-stocked salad bar is a good starter for your meal. The staff is great and they go out of their way to make sure you are having the best meal possible. Make a reservation, especially on a weekend. You will not leave hungry and it will be difficult to pick a favorite bite of delicious carved meat after you leave. I can't believe we got dessert but the chocolate lava cake was just too tempting. This is a great place to mark a special occasion with a wonderful and filling meal, all done with Brazilian food flair. Yes it's a little expensive, but I felt like the restaurant delivers an excellent meal and experience.

We chose not to eat here as this location is not even slightly handicap/elderly accommodating. Entrance doors are heavy with two sets, very hard to open when pushing a wheelchair. The buffet has very little room around which to maneuver as so many tables are crammed in a very small space. All surfaces are hard marble or tile so the noise level of the other diners is extremely loud and it is almost impossible for an older person to hear. Even the staff kept asking us to repeat ourselves. The meat looked and smelled delicious, the salad bar was pretty bare and picked over, the hot side bar was very low on servings and kinda dried out looking. I’m sure this is a great place if you want to eat a lot of meat, but not a good option if you are wheelchair bound or have any sort of mobility issues.

Bartenders are exceptional. Great atmosphere, very professional staff , variety of selections at food bar, great variety of meats to sample throughout the meal. Good value , especially during weekdays. Reservations highly recommended, especially on weekends, very busy ! Consistent with other Brazilian restaurants, you turn your red/green discs to indicate your choice of meats as the staff presents their selections throughout the meal.
