Customer Review Summary

Overall, Kanpai Japanese Steak House and Sushi received mixed reviews. Many diners praised the quality of the food, particularly the filet mignon, teriyaki chicken, and entertaining hibachi chefs. Customers enjoyed the unique dining experience, with highlights including the onion volcano and engaging chef interactions. However, several reviews pointed out significant issues with service, including inappropriate handling of special occasions, bland food, and disrespectful interaction from certain chefs. Some diners experienced incorrect orders, overcharging, and a lack of attention from staff, leading to frustration. While the atmosphere and food quality drew positive remarks, the inconsistent service and high prices may deter budget-conscious customers. The establishment is generally recommended for those seeking an entertaining meal but may not be ideal for special celebrations or dining on a budget.

My wife and I absolutely loved this place! The filet mignon, for example instantly melts in your mouth. It was softer than bread. Also, the chef was entertaining and made our lunch much more enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

The food was awesome! They offered yum yum sauce with my teriyaki chicken, and it made my meal 2x as good. Everyone was offered soup and salad. Though it was a bit expensive. The service was also great! Especially with them automatically refilling your drinks and sauce if needed. The show is always good at places like this. The only issue I had was that there weren't many places to sit in the restaurant. In conclusion, I absolutely loved it! Always a good watch when going to places like this. Though this isn't a good restaurant if you want to dine in on a budget (near ~$200 for a family of 4).

The first time I came here with my girls it was amazing, so for Valentine’s Day I figured I would take my spouse with me. The food was wonderful we had a long wait since it was Valentine’s Day but I still remained confident it would be a great experience. I rated the service and atmosphere a 3 bc the chef will usually interact with the table they do tricks to keep everyone smiling and laughing and my guy was probably tired. He just has no energy no interactions with the table as we watch the table next to us just having the time of their lives. Definitely is a great place to go and usually it is a wonderful time I just did not have this experience that night. Would I ever go again? I prob would bc the food is still great.

When my husband’s birthday came around this year, we were so excited to make our first trip to Kanpai. There’s nothing better than dinner and a show for a birthday celebration! Evidently, we weren’t the only ones who were celebrating that evening, as we found out from our table mates. After being seated quickly, and taking a moment to say hello to the good people we’d be dining with, a swift server came by and took our drink orders. My husband chose a refreshing Bold Rock Hard Cider, and I finally decided on a bright pinot grigio. For our first course, we first breathed in the scrumptious Shoyu Onion Soup broth, then we enjoyed eating it, complete with its fried onions and full mushroom flavor. It was delightful! Next, we freshened up with a lively field greens salad, topped with a traditional carrot ginger dressing. All the while, as we dined, the entertainment was going full-swing. You think I’d forget to tell you that our chef was outstanding? He had a fun personality, and truly elevated our evening with his little rice bites that he hurled at each of us, hoping we would successfully catch them. To watch all the colors of our food - the yellow egg yolks, the white rice, the green broccoli, the red peppers - dance together, all on the table before us, was a spectacle to behold. But nothing compared to the fiery onion volcano he set up for us! Magically, our plates were filled with sauteed mixed vegetables, egg fried rice, and teriyaki chicken, right before our eyes. And when I tell you that this dinner plate was delicious each and every bite, I’m not exaggerating. The vegetables were crisp and tender, all in the right places, for a cheerful bite. Somehow, this fried rice had a perfect texture as well: it was cooked through, so it was tender inside, but there were caramelized bits along the edges for a flavorful chew. Ah, and now for the teriyaki chicken - the main event! Such tender, juicy chicken, it really ticked all the boxes. It was fresh, full of that sweet, salty, slightly spicy Teriyaki flavor, and cooked perfectly. All in all, this evening out was such a memorable one! My only regret is that we didn’t order more appetizers. We actually couldn't finish our plates, so that wasn’t an issue, but the apps looked so good at our table that we knew we had missed out. Don’t make that mistake!

First rate lunch at a very reasonable price. Hibachi chief was entertaining and food prepared well. Highly recommended at lunch hour. I've never been there for dinner.

The Vibe Is: Positivitea

We came here on a weeknight for a small birthday celebration, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The restaurant wasn’t busy, yet they confiscated the mini Bundt cakes we brought for the occasion and didn’t acknowledge the birthday in any way—no greeting, no special gesture, nothing. I’ve been to many Japanese steakhouses, and while they tend to follow a similar experience, this was my first time dining here, and it fell short in several ways. The food was bland and lacked flavor, and the chef was inconsiderate throughout the meal. He skipped the usual fire show and, instead of the classic egg-toss game, used half-cooked rice clumps. When it was my father-in-law’s turn, he declined after missing twice, but the chef threw another one anyway. He did the same with my 2-year-old daughter, then with me—even after I signaled I was done, he kept throwing rice, with one clump hitting my shirt and another getting stuck in my hair. I didn’t make a scene, but it was frustrating and unprofessional. Given the location, I expected a better experience. Unfortunately, between the lack of hospitality, the poor food quality, and the uncomfortable interactions, I wouldn’t recommend dining here.

While the quality of the food and the atmosphere were beautiful, the service was terrible. My friend was given food that she did not ask for, and then she was told the they gave us an “upgrade” and that is why we didn’t not receive the food we ordered (we were not asked if we wanted an upgrade). My friend did not like the food included in the “upgrade,” and was even allergic to some elements. When we asked to get the food we ordered, we were told that we would have to pay for both the correct order and the incorrect order. On top of this we were heavily over changed- my food orders were $34 and $26, and the bill I received was $89. If you are on a budget or don’t want to deal with shenanigans, I would recommend to find a different place to eat.

Took my wife and 3 kids there on my wife's birthday. They couldn't get my sons order correct. Spent half the meal with an empty drink and then the chef shorted me on my rice. When the check came, they automatically tacked on a 20% gratuity and wouldn't let me change it. Then when the credit card receipt came, there was still a tip line. I mentioned it to the manager and she blew me off. We won't be going back.
