Customer Review Summary
KABUTO Jr HIBACHI HOUSE received mixed reviews. Some customers praised the warm atmosphere and exceptional service, highlighting the friendly and attentive staff. Dishes like gyoza and curry ramen were frequently mentioned as favorites, noted for their good taste and quality. However, several reviewers pointed out issues such as the high prices and concerns over food freshness, particularly with reheated rice. A common complaint was the unpleasant smell, reminiscent of sewer or bathroom odors, especially near the bathrooms. Some diners found the ramen broth disappointing, noting it was chicken-based rather than traditional pork-based and had a sweet aftertaste. Overall, while many enjoyed their experiences and meals, the restaurant has notable drawbacks that some find significant enough not to return.

Not horrible, but only satisfactory. Ramen is fine, $1.5 for half an egg is quite pricey. The rice however, is not fresh, seems have been re-heated for multiple times. Similar to some past reviews, the water smells like bathroom/sewer…

5 Stars - Incredible Experience! If you’re looking for a truly exceptional dining experience, this small Japanese hibachi restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting—just the right balance of cozy and lively. But the real star of the show was the service. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. Our server was so friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and it really made the meal feel special. It’s clear they genuinely care about their customers! I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. Amazing service, fantastic food, and an unforgettable experience. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this spot—you won’t regret it!

The gyoza starter was good - and included 6 pieces. Our ramen bowls were both very good. The curry ramen was very compelling and tasted as one would expect. The spicy ramen was the spiciest I have ever had - I like spicy so I thought it was amazing but be ready! Service was great as well - recommended for some good ramen in downtown!

Least favorite ramen place in Richmond. I really wanted to like this place…. But the cons were too many to over look. Pros: Japanese drinks and beers available and looked “Japanese” Waitress was attentive and friendly! Cons: place smelled like bathroom/inner city sewer as soon as you walked in and worse as you got closer to the bathrooms in the basement. All the broth is chicken based… traditional Japanese ramen is pork based. And it had a weird sweet aftertaste. Miso ramen comes topped with the miso paste instead it being cooked in the broth… Karaage was not authentic. Gyoza was the best dish we had, however strong ginger flavor. The Chashu was gamey. $15-$25 per bowl of ramen! We paid over $100 for 3 people for lunch. That’s three ramens, 2 apps and 1 drink. WAY overpriced! Won’t be going back, unfortunately. But place seems to be popular here in Richmond.

Came here for an early dinner with my daughter (5) and son (4) who both had a grand time. They were patient and accomodating and brought us extra bowls and utensils. My kids split a bowl of the signature Tenka Ramen (and by that I mean they devoured it) as well as some dumplings. I had some takoyaki and the curry ramen - which I'd never seen before - both of which were delicious. The curry ramen was topped with fried chicken which both kids tried a piece of and loved. My daughter decided to do a mixture of both broths (just a little of the curry) because she liked them both, while my son declared that he preferred his own broth (the tenka) to mine. Service was quick and very friendly. We sat in a little booth, which was perfect. There was also a small amount of bad seating and a few tables. I think they may have had to reduce the indoor seating for staffing reasons since there's also room in the front that's currently used for people waiting for pick up orders now. Charming spot though, and right in the middle of the city. Definitely recommend if you're craving ramen!

My friend and I stopped for dinner after exploring the trails along the river. Everyone was super friendly, our waitress was kind and attentive. Food was delicious and well-priced. Excellent ramen and curry rice. Looking forward to going there again.

Had the curry ramen without chicken. They added extra veggies instead, and it was delicious! The broth was rich and flavorful and the broccoli they added was bright and fresh. Noodles were prefect. Was more of a l casual spot as far as ambiance goes, but the service was great, the place was immaculate, it was very comfortable, and overall it was an excellent experience!

First time visit her with my daughter. The service was great. Very friendly. I order the veggie Ramen noodles. It was excellent. Light tasting and very fresh flavor. The takoyaki was delicious with a sweet sauce. The gyoza chicken dumplings were good. My daughter had the miso Ramen noodles. I look forward to coming in to dine again in the future.
