About Brasil Tropical Restaurant - steak house in Richmond, Virginia

Customer Review Summary

Brasil Tropical Restaurant offers a "pay by the pound" buffet with a good variety of foods and seasoned meats. While many reviewers praise the fresh, delicious offerings and excellent service, some express disappointment over the limited number of meat dishes for the buffet price. Despite this, the staff is noted for being friendly and helpful, with several mentioning exceptional service from specific servers. The ambiance is described as clean and cozy, with a mom-and-pop vibe reminiscent of a local café. The restaurant has both a buffet and an all-you-can-eat option, and while there are vegetarian options, some diners find the selection could be broader. Overall, it’s considered a hidden gem with great potential, though experiences seem to vary, especially regarding consistency over time.

A "pay by the pound" buffet experience that offers a delicious variety of foods and seasoned meats for consumption. The staff is really nice, and the owner provided us with additional meat samples at no extra charge making the experience that much more amazing. If you're the type to knock out more than one plate, I would recommend the all you can eat option, which was around $35 last I checked vs around $16 per pound otherwise. I wish the foods here were labeled, to make selection easier, but a quick ask to the staff would remedy that. Overall, a great place to stop in and the most epic weekend lunch for a long time that I've had in the area

We were looking forward to trying this new place after seeing the photos and reviews on Google. I am slightly disappointed with number of items offered for the buffet. For $16 per person with tax, there are only two meat dishes. Sadly, the appetizers and desserts are not included in the buffet. The chicken cooked with okra did not have much flavor, there was no breast meat. Overall, the food was well prepared. The place feels very clean. I would give five stars for the service. Our waitress Sophie was the only person spoke English, she went above and beyond. It was definitely a good experience, just wished they have offered more for the price of the buffet. Please check their hours before you go there for dinner. I believe they open very early in the morning about 7:30 AM and close either 6 PM or 7 PM.

EDIT: 5/2021..not sure what's happened here. Not the place it used to be, unfortunately. Service left much to be desired and price increased significantly. Sadly, we wont be back..... So happy I stumbled upon this awesome restaurant! Everything was fresh, delicious and healthy! Everyone was very friendly and helpful! The pinapple was to die for! 😍 this is a new favorite!

What an great little hidden spot. The owner was on site and as she explained to us the features of the restaurant someone was coming out cleaning the steam trays. I will say the reason why I love this spot it’s not large, and the colors are the same as I had chooser for Ty’s Internet Café which use to be located inside Rising Son’s Computers & Electronics. Even down to the Black painted ceilings. I love the decor and everything has a very clean mom and pop style vibe. Think miniature Texas de Brazil. It’s not over powering with a corporatety feel. It’s real cosy. NOW the food... OMG 😮 meat everywhere in everything. Not too much so if you are a vegetarian you can dodge it and just go for the rest. Yes, it’s a buffet Monday and Tuesdays. Wednesday through Sunday it’s endless meats that are on skewers. Everyday the owners says the menu is different. This will always set small businesses apart from the big guys. In conclusion Customer service = 5⭐️ Cleanliness = 4.5 ⭐️ (her little boy after school came from the door directly behind the counter into the freezer... didn’t like that. Not sanitary) Variety = 4 ⭐️ limited options but enough to keep you full no dessert included. Taste = 4.5 star some things are a little salty, but they might be if they was there meats in saltwater. Frequency = 2x a month it’s affordable and it’s a buffet. All you can eat. AYCE. #risingsonltd

Great little hidden gem 💎 Not a lot of variety but what is available on the buffet is well made. Great service and super clean. Would definitely recommend 👍🙂👌

Awesome buffet, lots of vegetarian options as well. I’m vegan and able to make great plates for myself every visit.

The service was just as appealing as the food. David(our server) was kind enough to guide us through this cultural journey...he answered any questions we had and encouraged us to try various things. This trip was about the already prepped hot buffet, but next time we're going to enjoy the bevy of fresh meats just wating to hit your plate. I agree with David the bottled version of their local soda has better flavor notes than its canned counterpart.

I used to come here when it was Cantina do Brazil, and I must say the transformation into the larger Brasil tropical steakhouse is a fantastic progression. The interior is remarkably warm and modern and large enough for your whole group. The buffet looks fantastic, but today I got the Coxhina, which are delicious large fried dumplings stuffed with cheese and the most flavorful shredded chicken. It is not possible to train anyone here to be more friendly or authentically warm to guests. I can't wait to come back and dine in. Today was a bit rushed so I had to get these lovely fried jewels to go
