Customer Review Summary
Salt Stone is generally praised for its unique atmosphere, attentive service, and refined menu. The Rigatoni Bolognese received positive comments for its flavor and pairing with Malbec. Service is frequently highlighted as exceptional, contributing positively to the dining experience. There are seasonal menu items that intrigue customers, suggesting a varied offering. However, some reviews mention inconsistencies in food quality, such as overcooked pasta and bland sauces. A few experiences were marred by slow service, cold food, and unwelcoming staff, particularly a rude hostess. While the ambiance is elegant and welcoming, some diners felt the food did not always meet expectations for the price. Overall, Salt Stone has potential but faces critiques regarding food consistency and certain staff interactions.

I stopped in for a nice dinner here in SLC, and was very pleasantly surprised by this unique little gem. Classic tavern accoutrements with a refined yet varied menu. I had the Rigatoni Bolognese, and the sauce had pork and beef, both seasoned well and the Bolognese was very flavorful. There was a touch of heat in the meat - just enough to carefully bring out some of the spice in the wonderful Argentinian Malbec that I had to accompany it. There were careful tiny dollops of ricotta to cool the palette. And of course freshly grated Parmesan gives a slight sharp edge that has me grinning. To finish, I had a wonderful coconut sorbet and the prosecco. A sweet finish after an earthy meal! Let me commend the service which was present and attentive and knowledgeable about the menu without hovering. And very personable. I really enjoyed seeing some of the seasonal flavors highlighted on the menu and I want to come back and try them. There are some Niman Ranch pork chops or a flatiron steak with shishitos and a chimichurri that pique the interest.

The service is exceptional. The atmosphere is classic and welcoming. The food and drinks are good but not amazing. We found the exterior of the cheese on the meat and cheese tray to be hard as if it had been prepared earlier and not fresh. We were told it would be a total of five cheeses and meats, but it was only four. The artichoke dip was perfect. The pasta was okay, as were the scallops and shrimp, however, the sauces were underwhelming. The service did lift the entire meal. This is not a place that can carry itself on the food alone.

Extremely disappointed. We went for a business recruitment dinner and had a reservation for our party. Despite the restaurant being one-third full, our food took a full hour, which forced us to eat quickly to not miss our next meeting. When our food arrived, it was cold. The rigatoni in particular was bland and unimpressive considering the price point and sheer amount of time it took to prepare. Would not recommend!

We recently stayed at the Marriot City Creek in SLC and ventured downstairs to find something to eat for dinner. While wandering around the lobby, we spotted this gem of a restaurant that was quiet, intimate and full of class. We were welcomed by our server Chandra who with a huge smile placed us at the table of our choice, she offered recommendations for our dinner and everything was simply delicious. Chandra also brought us the best Malbec of the house, which made the evening simply unforgettable! We can't wait to go back to Salt Lake and visit Salt Stone for another great dining experience!

The only reason I'm rating Salt and Stone with two stars instead of one is that the young woman who waited on our table this evening was very cordial and attentive to us. Otherwise, the experience was dismal. The tone was set by the young woman who is the hostess. She could not have been ruder, more unfriendly and uncivil. Though the four of us, a group of elderly people, could not have been more polite to her, she was impatient and curt, treating us as if we were a bother when we asked to be shown a booth before we chose our seating. Not a smile one the entire time she dealt with us, and not a single word of welcome: disgraceful behavior for someone in her position…. The person greeting customers at any establishment is critically important. She or he provides a make-or-break experience for one's entire time in an establishment. This young woman needs to understand that if she lives long enough, she, too, will one day be old, and may find herself appalled at being treated unkindly solely due to her age. All this, and the food is mediocre and overpriced. My rigatoni with meat sauce featured overcooked pasta and bland meat sauce. I have stayed at the City Creek Marriott routinely for several days on each of my yearly visits to Salt Lake. I've long enjoyed the quiet restaurant on their main floor, which now has a new name, a new menu, and, I suppose, new management. Tonight's experience was disappointing, and the most elderly member of our group, who was treated more rudely than any of us by the hostess, spent a pretty penny for all of our meals. But we won't be back on subsequent trips to Salt Lake….

Food was amazing! Our waiter was amazing as well, our only issue was there was an employee on his break who decided to sit right behind us and was watching TikTok videos on max volume, it was very disturbing. Then the same employee was sitting there drinking a soda and continued to belch very loudly while sitting directly behind us!

The Pastrami eggs benedict on croissant with fry sauce hollandaise was lovely! They have some outstanding hot sauces, juices and coffee options really nice. Great location, incredibly friendly and smiley staff.

This place was so elegant and beautiful for being apart of a hotel. Our waiter was professional and courteous and the food was spectacular 👌 🙌 😋 I definitely would love to visit again 😀
