Customer Review Summary

Avenues Proper is praised for its vibrant ambiance and inventive dishes, making it a great choice for casual dining. The brunch menu is hit or miss; while dishes like French toast and kids' waffles are well-received, some items lack flavor depth and can be overly spicy. Highlights include the spicy chicken sandwich, known for its crispy texture and balanced spice level, as well as quality local sourcing for food and drinks. Service experiences vary; while some diners praise attentive staff, others report being let down by slow service during busy times. The restaurant also caters well to families, with a strong kids’ menu and accommodations for dietary restrictions. Overall, Avenues Proper is celebrated for high-quality ingredients, a cozy atmosphere, and the uniqueness of their house-brewed beers, making it a recommended spot in Salt Lake City.

This is a great spot to meet up and have a brunch and a beer. We had a young child with us so the dining area chatter was enough that kiddo noise was not out of place. The dishes we ordered were presented well, but the lack of depth of flavor in the gravy dishes made them a bit bland. The chilaquiles were very spicy, great flavor, but the dish couldn’t be finished due to the heat level. No complaints from the French toast or kids waffle. I absolutely would go back, but ask for hot sauce to perk up my pork chop and eggs. The pork chop was no different than a chicken fried steak IMO, delicious, but a bit “mild”. I had the second breakfast oatmeal stout. It was quite dark like I wanted but had a bitter profile that outweighed any notes of chocolate and other things they listed on the menu.

We went here for dinner over Labor Day weekend with the whole family (kids ages 6 and 2). We have visited before, as it’s pretty close to our house, but it had been a year or so. The food was pretty good! Not spectacular, and similar feedback from last time. The fried mushrooms mostly just tasted like the batter. The cauliflower was very good, loved the sauce! Steak and frites was fine - steak was a little fatty/chewy but cooked well and the way I asked. Fries were yummy and seasoned well. Loved the butter on the steak. The burger was okay, but my husband said the version he had at Proper Burger downtown was better. The little ones split the kids’ waffles and loved the fruit, but for some reason said the syrup tasted funny (yes! Kids complained about a sugary syrup!). I think this was because it was infused with an herb. I suspect adults would appreciate this more. Service was fine. Our waitress was attentive and listened. We sat outside on the patio and it was a nice, quiet evening. We would go back.

Avenues Proper in Salt Lake City is a must-visit spot for anyone seeking a vibrant dining experience with an inventive twist on classic dishes. Nestled in the Avenues neighborhood, this gastropub captures a cozy yet lively ambiance, making it a great choice for casual meetups or a night out. The menu features a variety of creative, seasonal dishes, and their attention to quality ingredients is apparent in every bite. One of the standout items is their spicy chicken sandwich – a dish that’s hard to forget. The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right level of spice to keep things interesting without overwhelming the flavor. Topped with fresh greens, a tangy aioli, and nestled between a soft, toasted bun, this sandwich is an absolute crowd-pleaser and a personal favorite. Apart from the food, Avenues Proper also boasts an impressive selection of house-brewed beers, each thoughtfully crafted to pair well with their menu. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to make recommendations and ensure a great dining experience. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Salt Lake City, make sure Avenues Proper is on your list – you won’t be disappointed!

We celebrated my boyfriend's 30th birthday at Avenues Proper and had the best experience! I rarely do Google Reviews but this experience truly deserves 5 stars. Here are some reasons as to why: - The brussels sprouts are some of the best in SLC (and I am VERY picky when it comes to brussels). - The food and coffee is locally sourced, the drink menu has a variety of fun cocktails (my faves are the Lavender Haze and El Diablo), and plentiful beers on tap (most of which are micro-brewed in-house). - Renting out the bar area is the PERFECT size for a party of 18-25 people. - I have been vegetarian for over 10 years and am always researching vegetarian options in SLC - the brussels sprouts, cauliflower, arugula salad, and veggie burger were my faves on the menu. The arugula salad in particular blew me away! Very well-dressed (but not overly dressed), the beets were very fresh, and a large helping was served. They definitely offer a variety of food options for all pallets and diets! - The cozy but upscale atmosphere is as immaculate as the service and food. The service was quick and they catered to many special requests, including helping us serve cake and provide extra plates and silverware. I really can't think of a better location in Salt Lake to celebrate a special day with our closest friends and family. Thank you Avenues Proper for helping us celebrate a dirty 30 birthday Properly!

Love Avenues! The food is always fresh and delicious. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and the attention to detail is awesome. I’ve been here multiple times, and each visit has been just as good as the last. Definitely will keep coming back!

Cute place for brunch in the avenues. Food and drinks were reasonably priced for the most part. Service was a bit slow- not the servers fault at all. they were clearly understaffed in the front of house. There were maybe 2 servers for the entire floor for a weekend brunch? Probably not the most logical staffing decision on managements part.

Stopped in on a Saturday night for some cocktails. We were sat in their bar area and waited 10 minutes with no service. We ended up asking the hostess to fetch the bartender for us. We ordered 2 Manhattans and I don't know what we got but it was gross. It tasted like just whisky and orange bitters over ice. The drinks were 16 dollars each. We left feeling cheated out of about 40 dollars and headed over to the Handle Bar where we got 2 decent Manhattans for 13$ TOTAL. This is the most memorable but not the only disappointing experience I have had at Avenues Proper. I will say, the food is generally pretty good. It's the service I've been let down on repeatedly.

As a mother, this has been a favorite place for a long time. Not only is their food SO GOOD, but they have the best kids menu in town. The staff has NEVER failed to let me down, and I've had maybe 3 out of 100 poached eggs that weren't perfect. They are open during the lull hours, which is the best time for toddler dinners. I can't get enough. I have no higher praise than to say THIS IS THE PLACE. Amazing staff. Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing accommodations. What more can you ask for?? OH YEAH!!! AMAZING BEERS!!! HOME BREWED!!! It's quite literally the PERFECT local restaurant.
