Customer Review Summary
Reservations are highly recommended, often required well in advance due to high demand. The atmosphere and decor are praised as beautiful, contributing to a delightful dining experience. The salad bar is consistently highlighted as impressive, with a fantastic selection of fresh items, including breads and cornbread. While many rave about the steak options, there are mixed reviews on seasoning and presentation, with some dishes described as overcooked or lacking flavor. Notable dishes include the Tomahawk, which was underwhelming, the flavorful Pork Chop, and the delicious Snickers cheesecake, though opinions vary on portion balance. Service receives strong commendations, with servers being professional and attentive. Overall, the restaurant is recommended for those seeking a genuine Texas dining experience, though some feel the pricing can be high for the quality received. It is especially popular during the Christmas season, with unique holiday decorations adding to the charm.

Plan early and reserve! They do have space sometimes even with no reservations. Atmosphere is beautiful! My husband loves the steak and I love the salmon! We both agree that the salad bar is amazing! The menu is impressive with great desserts!

Taste of Texas is an absolute must-visit and a true Texas dining experience. My server, Chase, was phenomenal—professional, attentive, and always checking in to ensure we had everything we needed. He made great suggestions, and we loved everything he recommended. The salad bar is impressive, well-stocked, and fresh, with a fantastic selection of breads and butter. I ordered the Tomahawk, but unfortunately, it came overcooked. It wasn’t as tender or juicy as I had hoped. On the other hand, the Pork Chop was amazing—so flavorful and tender. The fruit compote on top was a nice touch, though the creamed spinach it came with was flavorless and inedible. The Snickers cheesecake was delicious and well-combined, though it was a bit heavy on the peanut flavor compared to the cheesecake itself. Overall, I was very satisfied. While the pricing is on the higher side, I think it's worth it for the quality and experience. Be sure to make a reservation—when I walked in the other day, I had to wait 2 hours for a party of two. On my way out, I encountered Santa, who was incredibly sweet and even offered for me to sit on his lap.

Suggested by chat gpt for someone that is looking for a Texas experience. Went alone to test it for a customer and was extremely well attended by Gabriel. Perfect meat experience (go pick your own piece in the kitchen). In the next day went with my customer and was also a nice surprise. Really recommend even if far away from the city center.

Let’s just say we had to make reservations a month out to get in this place. The special occasion was my mom’s birthday! You got to walk to the kitchen and select your cut of meat if you wanted to (which we did) then if you order a steak it does come with a salad from the salad bar which also had rolls & cornbread then 1 side. Our steak was good but I feel there really wasn’t any seasoning on it. It just tasted like seared beef either butter on it. I was expecting a lot more from this place with the price and wait to get in.

Hayden, our server was magnificent! The Taste of Texas is exceptional. The quality of its product is second to none. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary. I enjoyed the Double Bone Pork Chops and the wife Marinated Steak Skewers. The sides were awesome and of course the open salad bar with bread and cheese is what separates The Taste of Texas from all other steak houses. Reservations at least 2 weeks in advance is a must. The desserts, well, see the pics for yourself. Buen Provecho!

Went here with friends last night and it was my first time at Taste of Texas. I had the cowboy steak and jumbo crab cake. Both tasted SO good. I love that there’s no breadcrumbs in their crab cake so I was able to enjoy it with my diet. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was made to perfection! That garlic butter on top made my steak 100000x better. Everything was so good!! And our server Austin H was great too!! :D

Taste of Texas is a new Christmas tradition for my husband & I. This was our 3rd year coming out & it was great. Everything about this place is wonderful! The decor, the waitstaff & the food all deserve 5 stars plus. The salad bar is also one reason we come back. We both loved Steak & Ale, and this place brings back so many good memories. This is the only restaurant that I know of that has such a fresh & delicious salad bar. You could just have that & you'd be good! I love all the Christmas trees made out of old jewelry too. So pretty!

Food is good, but I wouldn’t declare it “The Best.” Steaks are cooked well to the temperature of your liking, but missing on plating/presentation (dull) and lacking flavor (could use a little extra rub or marinade)… There are many comparable (if not better) steakhouses around Houston. However, if you want the BIG TEXAS EXPERIENCE, it is worth a visit. There’s something to the charm & tradition that has kept this place going over the years.
