About Taylor County Taphouse - steak house in Abilene, Texas

Traditional tavern featuring Texas-style comfort food & craft beers on tap, plus patio seating.

Customer Review Summary

Taylor County Taphouse offers a cozy and delicious dining experience. The food is flavorful and well-prepared, with standout dishes like bacon-wrapped quail and smoked chicken. The atmosphere can be crowded and loud, especially during live music events. Service is generally friendly, though there are occasional reports of inattentiveness. The beer selection is extensive with many local options. Popular items include buffalo chicken sandwiches and mozzarella sticks, although some dishes like the Caesar salad may lack flavor. Appetizers, particularly the devil's huevos and French onion soup, receive high praise. Overall, it's a great spot for singles or date nights, with a unique ambiance and changing special menu.

Nice, cozy, and delicious joint. The food was absolutely staring. It was loaded with flavor cooked perfectly and very delicious. Heard about their bacon wrapped quail resting in a bed of hearty cheese grits, and it didn't disappoint. The smoked chicken was also delicious to the bone paired with some mac n cheese, brocolini, and mashed potatoes. Definitely give them a try, great for singles or on a date night. Place can be crowded due to its coziness and can be loud if there is a live band, so bear that in mind if you're not that kinda person. They also seem to have a changing special menu each week in addition to the regular menu. Service was friendly do give them a try. Quail serving in pic is the meal version, the original is listed under appetizers on the menu, which is 3 quails, but for i beleive $6 more, you can make it a 4 wrapped meal. Rushed pics. I was hungry, n it looked delicious, lol.

Stopped here during our roadtrip from Dallas to Phoenix and arrived just as they were opening. Our server was so welcoming and friendly and had great recommendations. They have an extensive beer list (of course, they are a tap house lol) with many local options as well as crowd favorites. I had the buffalo chicken sandwhich with fries and it was SO good. The fries were thick, which I love, and the ranch was creamy and delicious. The buffalo sauce was perfect and the chicken was so juicy. I wish I lived closer so I could come back again and again!

2025 02 26 - Service and food were good. The food was filling and tasty but little heavy. The club sandwich was unusual and served warm.

Made a reservation ahead of time. Beer was amazing. Food was amazing. Only thing not very good was the ceaser salad. Lacked a lot of flavor, needed seasoning, more salt in the dressing. Mozzarella sticks were 10/10. Service was good, server was very attentive. Atmosphere was great.

Had the devil's huevos, and pork tacos.. The appetizers were absolutely phenomenal all of the flavors came together wonderfully. The service was great our waitress was very kind and quick with everything. The tacos were also pretty good, the meat was a bit dry but otherwise very flavorful. And the French onion soup was sublime! I would happily visit here again

Walked in and asked if it was ok to sit at the bar. Bar tender said anywhere is good. They knew I was there. Waited for 15 min at a bar that was not even full. Never asked if I wanted a drink or food. Did not give me a menu. I just left. Do better.

Quickly seated, cold outside but they had the enclosed patio warm and toasty. Ordered the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and they were Huge! Food was good and large portions. Ordered a couple of cocktails and they were delicious, not too strong but not too weak. Will eat here again.

We were on a 6-week RV adventure and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. It was one of the few places that we really enjoyed. The Sopapilla Cheesecake dessert option is fabulous. The atmosphere is unique, the service was exceptional. The waitress got an extra tip.
