About Five on Black Kitchen and Spirit House - steak house in Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Customer Review Summary
Five on Black Kitchen offers a lively atmosphere with a Vegas theme, featuring brick walls, dark ambiance, and oldies music. Most reviewers appreciate the cocktails and appetizers, especially the Five on Fire and Pitboss burgers, which are uniquely presented. However, the food quality is inconsistent, with specific dishes like the steak sandwich criticized for lack of flavor. Overall, Five on Black Kitchen has potential but could benefit from refining its menu and improving service consistency. --- The Spirit House, Black on Five, is praised for its exceptional dining experience, blending casual and upscale vibes. Reviewers highlight the delicious food made from fresh ingredients, including various seafood, steak, and vegetarian dishes alongside outstanding cocktails. The attentive staff and detailed service contribute to a memorable experience, with many recommending the restaurant as a must-visit in Murfreesboro. Birthday dinner date and our first time dining here on a Sunday evening. It wasn’t crowded and we got seated immediately with a reservation. Right away I liked the brick walls and dark atmosphere plus cool oldies music. The drink menu was huge and I tried the Sweater Weather hot cocktail. It was apple brandy made strong, tasty and warmed me up from the cold outside. My glazed salmon was cooked perfectly flaky. It paired perfectly with wasabi (very subtle) mashed potatoes and broccolini. Our hostess Taylor was perfect and kindly did a great job at taking a few photos for us.

Great atmosphere and bar with a Vegas theme. Service is great. For an appetizer we had the Brussel sprouts and they were delicious. The wedge blue cheese salad is also great. For the main course we ordered the steak sandwich I don't recommend. It's a cuban style steak sandwich which lacks flavor and needs more meat. It needs work!Personally, I think they need to consider replacing it. The Five on Fire burger is good and is a great show. They actually light it on fire at your table. The Pitboss burger is also great and is delivered with agreat presentation of smoke. Stick to the burgers and appetizers. If you like Five Senses and Steak House Five which are sister restaurants you may disappointed in the food. The menu is not well balanced. It feels like they were trying to be a bar and fun atmosphere and then threw a couple of fine dining options as an afterthought. With all that said, We'll definitely be returning for the burgers, apps, and bar. We like the vibe and service.

First time to visit. I sat at the bar for over 10 minutes before any staff offered a menu or to take my order, and it was not busy. Over half of the bar seats were empty. I had the espresso martini and did not like it at all. The decor was beautiful and the menu had good choices. I only ordered the martini and left without drinking it.

Great experience, the food and service were awesome, and the atmosphere was nice. Will return had the wings, burger with candied bacon, and shrimp all all were good.

I really hope this place sticks around and hones in on the smaller details. Overall the environment from service was good. The food is the area that could use the most work. The components of mist of the meals burgers or appetizers sound good with complex layers and buzzword ingredients, however, the execution of all those ingredients in the balance between them still needs work.

Exceptional Experience at Black on Five! If you're in Murfreesboro, TN, and craving an amazing meal with a unique twist, I highly recommend Black on Five. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance of casual and upscale, making it a great spot for everything from a romantic dinner to a celebratory gathering. Each dish is expertly prepared, with fresh ingredients that elevate classic comfort food to something truly special. The cocktails are top-notch, and the dessert selection is the perfect way to end your meal on a sweet note. What sets Black on Five apart, though, is the consistency. My husband and I were able to snag a reservation here for Valentine's Day and I'm SO glad for it. This is now one of my favorites, both for the atmosphere and the food. Everything we had was incredible, plus some of the food they serve comes on fire, literally! This place is such a treat to have in Murfreesboro and I cannot wait to go back. Oh also, get the West Coast Fries appetizer, they're to die for!

Booked a reservation in the lounge for a special meeting. Was told upon arrival they booked that space for a larger (ie, more $ for them) party. Frustration! They stuck us in a booth downstairs. They should have called me or messaged me beforehand. The way they handled the snafu was not professional. Food was good, drinks were ok, dessert was tasty and pretty, waitress seemed indifferent.
