Customer Review Summary

Urban Farmer Portland offers a generally excellent dining experience, notable for its quality food and impeccable service. Brunch highlights include the land and sea hash and farm burger, though the dungeness crab omelet received mixed reviews for its crab content. The restaurant's ambience, situated in a hotel atrium, adds to the overall appeal, featuring well-designed decor that creates an inviting atmosphere. Dinner options, particularly the 18oz dry-aged rib eye, are often described as some of the best steaks patrons have encountered, with side dishes like risotto and potato puree also receiving praise. The cornbread and upside-down cornbread dessert were appreciated delights, while visually appealing salads garnered positive feedback for their presentation. Service from staff, including notable mentions like hostess Blair and server Gabriel, contributed positively to the experience, with extra touches like personalized anniversary greetings well-received. Feedback regarding breakfast was mixed, with some dishes criticized for a lack of seasoning, though the overall food quality remains strong. While the restaurant's location may feel somewhat like a hotel lobby, diners find value in the meal experience and express a desire to return. Overall, Urban Farmer Portland is recommended for those seeking a great meal in a unique setting, despite some minor inconsistencies in food preparation.

During a weekend stay at the Nines, we had brunch at Urban Farmer, and it was, on the whole, excellent, if a bit on the pricier side. The land and sea hash was a huge favorite, and their farm burger was also fantastic with added bacon. I was a little disappointed with the dungeness crab omelet, which was quite light on the crab and heavy on everything else, but the flavors were solid. Service was impeccable throughout, and the ambience is really wonderful as well, as the restaurant's location in the hotel atrium gave it a sense almost of being outside, but safe from the elements with well chosen greenery and decor. I do want to give an extra thanks and shout out to the restaurant hostess, Blair, as she went above and beyond when we asked her a simple question regarding the Barrel Room and the Library in the hotel. She patiently took the time to explain what those amenities were and showed us what we had access to as guests of the hotel. Absolutely terrific service, thank you so much!

Urban Farmer (UF) is one of the best steakhouses in Portland, period. Compared to the big names in bigger cities, it matches in terms of the quality of the meat, how it is prepared, and the amazing service they provide. I think with a little of the food presentation upgrade, I would rank it near perfect towards Michelin-star grade food without the haughy and snooty wrapper. UF is a must-visit in Portland if you are seeking for an amazing dinner. The bone-marrow was amazing but was coupled with this incredible buttery baguette. Couldn't have done it better. The salad with apple was perfection. A lot of places get this wrong by having the dressing too sweet, too sour, or using less fresh greens. Not at UF. We had the 18oz dry-aged rib eye. Please order this. You will be in for a treat. Seasoned to perfection. Grilled to perfection. This was literally one of the best steaks we've ever had, and I've had a lot of steaks in my life. The risotto was a bit weak on the truffle scent but still quite flavorful. Potato puree and other sides were also quite good. Don't get distracted by the "middle of the lobby" situation. Yes, you will have ceilings that reach the top of the building which gives you this eery echo. It feels like an airport rather than a high-end restaurant. Once you are seated, and the food is delivered, you will seriously enjoy the meal. It seems like they do breakfast and lunch too due to it being a hotel lobby type of set up. I can't speak for the other meals but steak dinner is top notch. We'll absolutely be back each and every time we're in Portland. Note: we celebrated our wedding anniversary here and the staff was kind enough to all sign a card for us! What a wonderful touch. Thank you!

The upside down cornbread was a fantastic surprise and doubled as the perfect last bite for dessert. I specifically came to this restaurant because of the steak tartare. It was almost perfect. Why almost? The toast didn’t need to be buttered. The chopped salad was so beautiful and perfectly presented that I didn’t want to eat it. But I’m so glad I did. My Server, Gabriel, was lovely, kind and witty and provided just the right amount of attention. A note to the host. Solo female diners do not want to be seated in the back corner of a semi-private area with no one else around. Most of my travels are solo and it’s always frustrating when I’m seated as far away as possible. My request to be seated in another area was immediately granted and all was fine, but it is something that restaurants should be aware of when seating solo diners - even when they are likely trying to fulfill a seating section rotation.

A very cool venue with excellent food! The tall, opening ceiling was very cool. Décor in different areas was really interesting. Food was great and very solid service.

This restaurant was located in a hotel, very nice kind of tucked into a corner, they have a full bar if you were wanting drinks. Their food was good, I'm a huge eggs Benedict fan and theirs was ok. I glossed over when reading it so my first bite was an unpleasant surprise; they use bernaise instead of hollandaise which isn't fitting at all. Having that sour tang in my mouth with the dish made me think it was spoiled. That was my fault though for assuming, I'd never had eggs Benedict with a bernaise and I wouldn't fancy to ever again. However despite that, the food was good and the service was prompt.

We have gone here twice, both times the meat quality for the steak was really good. The restaurant is located on the 8th floor, it’s very spacious. The restaurant started us off with corn bread and it was very soft in the center. By far it is the best cornbread I have ever tasted. We got the tasting platter, and out of all the meats the dry aged steak was our favorite. The Cesar salad was refreshing, it had this nice hint of lemon zest in there. Their crème brûlée was amazing, I would got back for the desert alone.

Quite enjoyable food. A great wine list. Hard working wait staff. A few suggestions. Please inform your waiters on the cuts of beef you are serving. Also if you offer a cheese plate (ignoring that it should be after the mains and not an appetizer) your staff should know or have an easy paper to describe the cheeses being offered. More than just a “blue and a cheddar.” Again the staff worked hard and we love them but if you are trying to be a certain level steakhouse and restaurant you should do this. We loved our meal and experience.

Went to Urban Farmer for breakfast after staying night at The Nines. Service was good. Food was a bit of a let down given the price and reputation of the restaurant. The only reason for the let down was a significant lack of seasoning and salt in both dishes ordered. My son ordered the avocado toast. The avocado was missing salt which is pretty key in that dish. I ordered the surf and turf hash with prawns and tenderloin. The dish was overall good and would have been great if the tenderloin were seasoned and had been cooked with salt. Unsalted beef is not very pleasant to eat. We also ate in the living room a couple nights prior and ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, which also lacked salt. I would encourage the chef/managers to randomly taste dishes as I’m guessing these dishes would not meet their expectations. Great atmosphere and good service so felt compelled to share feedback on food as I know it could and should be a bit better.
