About Sayler's Old Country Kitchen - steak house in Portland, Oregon
Historic steakhouse garners raves for its fillets & American fare served in a comfy interior.
Customer Review Summary
Sayler's Old Country Kitchen impresses with its generous portion sizes and quality steaks. The atmosphere is described as homey, offering an old-school family dining experience. Complimentary bread, soup or salad, and a scoop of ice cream with meals enhance the value. Diners love the onion rings and the hearty portions, which make sharing a great option. However, some reviews mention a lack of seasoning on the steaks, requiring customers to add their own. Most patrons praise the food, particularly the ribeye and prime rib, despite a few mixed experiences with specific cuts. While service is generally regarded as friendly and efficient, there are complaints about inconsistency, with one review detailing poor service and handling of special requests. Overall, the restaurant is appreciated for its fair prices and consistent quality, making it a favorite for many repeat customers.

Love this place! First time here. Donβt know how I have never been here before. Came for my nephews birthday with my parents and we were all pleasantly surprised. The menu had many steak cut options and sizes as well as seafood. I had a 32 oz. Porterhouse and it was perfectly cooked! Highly recommended!

Pros: - It's a great deal if you share a big streak! - They start you off with some bread and butter π§ π ... pickles, carrots π₯ and celery. - Every dinner comes with soup π² or salad π₯ and potato π₯ ... and a scoop of ice cream π¦ or sorbet. - Their order of onion rings can feed a small army ... I got 1/4 of an order and I could not finish it ... big enough for 2 or maybe 3 people ... the 1/4 order that is. - The steak was great quality, not all fat, and cooked well. - People are very nice and the place was clean and homey. Cons: - They don't spice the steak ... at all! ... I didn't even taste salt and pepper ... nothing! You have steak sauce and steak seasoning and salt and pepper and something called mushroom π sauce you can put on it. So, I guess you can tailor the steak to your taste buds ... but, I like my steak well seasoned, maybe even marinated ... I don't want to have to season it after it was cooked. This was my only gripe.

What happened to the meat sign!!! Almost got lost, had to get out of the car to make sure this was THE old place, looking at the queu and the 45 minute wait, it was...still served the best prime rib this side of the Willamette, with all the fixins...deep fried wings were great, good to be back after 30 years, but still ddnt have the stomach for the 72 oz challenge π₯©

Ribeye steak was amazing, the T-bone wasn't great. All the sides were good and loved the atmosphere. It's a little spendy but worth it for the ribeye.

My nephew and I really enjoyed this place. It definitely has an old school vibe of a Sunday family restaurant. Loved the veggies and dip and our prime rib dinner was delicious. It's a fun atmosphere to have dinner.

Birthday dinner was amazing π our server Sara made the experience even better, she was on top of everything and very Knowledgeable. UPDATED: WORST SERVICE EVER!!! We come here often and never have had an issue. Today our server had a horrible attitude, we have had to send our food back, not only once or twice but 3 times. We never send food back. I ordered a Porter House Steak ( I said with very little pink and the server said so medium, I said no more like medium well). The first time it can in was barly rare, the second time medium rare, the third time it came back it was medium, but still bleeding. You would think at a steak House it would be common knowledge of the difference and know how to cook a steak. The server Heather was the worst part she was horrible, her attitude was beyond unprofessional. Not once did she apologize she just rolled her eyes and blammed the cooks. The second time she said" If you don't like it and think you guys can do better there is room back in the kitchen." Who says something like that. I didn't think to take pictures of the first round but this is the second and third round. So I just sat there while my mom ate her fish and I left without eating. It's hard to change the rating for 1 horrible visit since we do come here very often. But I will take it from a 5 to a 3 for now.

This place is constantly great food at a fair price. You can find fancier steak houses but this place is old school class. Includes veggie tray, soup or salad, dinner with sides and Ice cream for the price I expect to pay at a fancier restaurant ala carte, and too be honest I've never had a bad steak here. Tender flavorful and always at the perfect temp. There's a reason this place has been here forever and the parking lot stays full every night of the week. Portland is lucky to have Saylers.
