Customer Review Summary
Jake's Grill has received mixed reviews highlighting both strong and weak points. The restaurant is praised for its accommodating service, especially with larger groups, and many mention the great food quality, including well-cooked steaks and flavorful seafood dishes. Appetizers like calamari and table-side drinks are noted as highlights, alongside the commendable ambiance and friendly staff. However, some experiences were marred by inconsistent service, with reports of inattentive waitstaff and issues with food preparation, such as bland dishes and incorrect cooking temperatures. Overall, while the food and environment are appealing, concerns over service quality and food consistency should be considered by potential diners.

Had a group of 8 planned and we ended up having 10. The service staff was amazing and didn’t miss a beat and they were able to accommodate our larger party with no issues. Overall the service was pretty great even with our large party. Very impressive these days. Food was great. Our party enjoyed the table side drinks they smoke right next to you. Apps came relatively quickly and steaks were cooked perfectly. Will be coming back!

Jake’s Lounge in Portland offers a mixed dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy but marred by practical concerns—sitting near the front, I found the cold air from the door to be a distraction. Despite the restaurant not being busy, the staff was only moderately attentive. While they were friendly enough, the service lacked the polish and effort you’d expect for the price point. The food, however, was exceptional. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked salmon accompanied by broccolini and creamy mashed potatoes, while my date had an equally delicious scallops. While we had to ask for bread, the real standout was the bread pudding, which was easily the highlight of the evening—rich, flavorful, and expertly executed. Jake’s Lounge isn’t a budget-friendly option, and while the food delivers, the lackluster service and the chilly seating detract from the overall experience. Perhaps it was an off night, but for the cost, I expected a more memorable and seamless evening. If you go, sit away from the door and don’t miss the bread pudding—it’s worth the trip.

Good experience. We weren't pushed to finish or make decisions on food. Was very nice. The food was good, not amazing but good. I wouldn't say there was anything special about the food. The "Banana Foster" is most definitely not Bananas Foster. Portions were good and not over excessive or too small.

The restaurant is stunning, clean and just makes you feel happy. And the staff is incredible. They’re personable, know the menu and they’re very accommodating. The issue is the food. My crab appetizer had next to no flavor and I ordered my burger medium. They served it well done with no pink and it was cooked so heavily it crumbled apart. The food quality isn’t there.

Came here for a nice early dinner with my guy. We ordered a dozen oysters on a half shell which were very good. We had mimosas to start and then for our entree I ordered the chicken fettuccine and my guy ordered the sirloin. My fiancé raved the entire dinner about how perfectly cooked his steak was, he liked the mash potatoes but I suspect they use heavy whipping cream in the preparation which made it too heavy for his palate half way in. My fettuccine was delicious, only nitpick is, since it came in a sauce, I heavily suspect they didn't season the chicken at all. When I had bites in my mouth, it tasted very bland. But there were lots of delicious mushrooms and the sauce was good. The biggest bummer to our dinner was our server, Ellen. I, myself, am a server as well so I tend not to be an overly picky diner but this was probably the worst service I've had at any establishment in awhile. She ignored our table constantly, like she was ready to take our order and I asked how big of a portion the salmon was, she didn't know so went to ask. When she came back with the size she just spit the number at me and walked away, didn't take our order as she initially was about to do. She also had no idea about anything on the menu, which is fine I suppose but she got a drink menu for my fiancé, when she came back with my drink she promptly about faced and sped away. I said excuse me to try to get her attention, so loud the table of 10 next to me all turned and looked at me, and she still walked away like she hadn't heard me. As a result it left annoyed my companion and he ended up not ordering a drink at all. We did have a very nice woman named Jennifer who dropped our food off and was very sweet and answered our questions as to how they perfectly cooked my fiances steak. But our server actively avoided our table, we waited for her to return for 15 minutes after we finished our food and ended up having to flag another server to get boxes and a bill. I wanted to say something but my fiancé didn't want me to, I always leave a tip, 10% being for atrocious service and that's what I wanted to do but my fiancé said I should leave 15% in case they had to share with the house. Abysmal service for more of an upscale dining restaurant.

Classic old school steak house done right! My ribeye was like butter! Super good mac and cheese and creamed corn. Great cocktails and an extensive wine menu. Service was impeccable.

We had a lovely “last dinner in Portland” dinner at Jake’s Grill. Yummy calamari to start, complimented by some nice cocktails. Tasty seafood entrees. The atmosphere was lovely and I appreciated the heritage feeling of the dining room. Good service, prompt, friendly and professional. They have some outside seating but I was very happy to enjoy the inside.

01/04/2025: Stopped for a quick dinner and sat at the bar. Great service! Friendly, prompt. The two of us ordered Calamari, French Onion Soup, New York Steak, and Crab and Shrimp Louie. The soup was okay and probably wouldn't order it again. It wasn't bad just fell a bit flat. New York Steak was ordered rare (intentionally to allow for overcooking) and it came medium - medium rare, but it was a still good.
