Customer Review Summary
The York Steak House offers a nostalgic dining experience reminiscent of past decades. Many reviewers praised the Chicken Noodles on Mashed Potatoes as a standout dish, alongside delicious dinner rolls. Service received positive remarks, especially from a waitress named Michelle, who was attentive and familiar with regular customers. The atmosphere is described as a step back in time, with a cafeteria-style setup and vintage decor. Steaks were generally well-prepared and tasty, though some sides, like salad items, received mixed reviews for being store-bought. Most diners found the prices reasonable, making it a good value for a decent meal. However, a few reviews mentioned a decline in food quality and service efficiency during recent visits, with issues like slow service and under-staffing. Despite some recent criticisms, the restaurant has maintained a loyal customer base who enjoy the classic menu offerings.

Decided to check the York out for one thing only and that was the Chicken Noodles on Mashed Potatoes, green beans and dinner roll. The interior is like stepping back in time. The dark carpet, wood tables and dim lighting. The green beans were straight out of a can but okay. The Chicken and Noodles was phenomenal. Great big pieces of chicken mixed with homemade noodles in a nice thick gravy. Yummy!!!! And the dinner roll was off the chart. Pillowy soft and buttery tasting. Delicious!! On to my waitress, Michelle rocked it checking on me numerous times. I’m guessing she’s been there a while since she knew a lot of the customers. Definitely will have to make a return trip.

If you are looking for a decent steak dinner at a good price, York is place. Stepping through the heavy wooden doors is a step back into time when the York Steakhouse ruled malls in the Midwest. This York does not disappoint in keeping with the tradition : from the picture menu on the wall as you walk in, the long corridor to grab your tray and place your meal order, to moving your tray through the line for desserts and the salad bar, to eventually check out. Finding a seat wasn't a big deal and the tables were clean and the chairs comfortable. The waitress who took care of our table was polite and kept our glasses full. When the meal was a little slow to come out she apologized and made sure we knew it was coming. Great meal which doesn't break the bank and brought back many memories from a long while back.

Stopped at the last remaining York Steakhouse after a day of archery in Columbus. I must confess that I selected this experience mostly for nostalgia. I wasn't expecting a fine dining experience. If I recall correctly there was York Steakhouse in the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield, Ohio during its peak operational period. Walking into this establishment in 2024 was like walking back in time. The exterior and interior brings back decor memories of the 70's and early 80's. The restaurant holds true to its original design and concept; a cafeteria. You take a tray, utensils, napkin and place your entree order. You walk down the line selecting your side item(s), dessert (if desired), and beverage, then arriving at a cashier station to pay. We were able to sit where we choose and a friendly server greeted us to get us settled and let us know that our entrees would be arriving shortly. No frills here, I made the salad pictured below from the small salad bar that is part of the selection line, and no buffet or return trips to the bar. The two smaller salads were from the salad bar, I just put them in separate serving cups. Both the coleslaw and macaroni salads tasted like the typical store bought items from the plastic tubs. My husband opted for the steak, medium rare and I selected the sirloin tips, medium with caramelized onions. We both had baked potatoes and a roll. The rolls were on the dry side as if sitting under a warming light for too long. Our steaks were prepared as requested and they were tender and juicy. Kudos to the grillmaster! The food overall was good and rated average per my personal assessment scale. The service was really good, and the step back in time was priceless. The walk-down memory lane was fun and I can say I visited the last remaining York Steakhouse.

Had to stop in to get my taste of Nancy's chicken and noodles. Unfortunately no green beans tonight of course. Settled for onion rings which was a good choice. Food was good. No complaints about service either. Little messy by the salad bar,but probably somebody before we arrived.

Food was hot, fast, delicious & cheap! I had a flashback to 1983... Ponderosa however it tasted so much better.

Many thanks to the owner that perfectly had preserved this experience for decades. I hope the new owner does the same. Great food at great prices. Even a salad bar!

The quality of food has dropped since last time we patronized this place. The lady running the register at one end had to run to the other end to also greet new patrons and take their orders. The girl waiting on tables in our area had too many tables to run and seemed to ignore a couple of tables to get to others. My wife had to go get her own take home box from up front. I was asked for a drink refill just once. The parking lot around back has always seemed shady and now it seems the homeless are in the area more back there. Not impressed anymore with this place.
