About Black Iron Grille - steak house in Akron, Ohio
Customer Review Summary
Black Iron Grille is a charming old-school restaurant that offers quality food at a reasonable price. The steaks are highlighted for being perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, while the meatloaf is noted as uniquely enjoyable. Sides such as salads, onion rings, and baked potatoes generally meet expectations, though some chicken dishes could be more flavorful. Service appears to be a mixed bag; while some guests praise the staff, others cite slow service, miscommunication, and unaddressed issues during busy times. The decor is described as outdated, but the ambiance holds a nostalgic appeal. Overall, many guests enjoyed their meals and expressed a willingness to return, despite some notable inconsistencies in service and food quality.

Off the beaten path cool old-school restaurant. We booked a reservation off a website recommendation and weren't disappointed. The food was simple and really good. The steaks were cooked perfectly and seasoned really well and the sides were all solid. They are as good as you'll get at this price point and would not hesitate to order them again. I opted for the meatloaf at the waiters suggestion because they grind their own meat mix off the steak trimmings. It was uniquely good, a bit different than anything I've had and very enjoyable. The BBQ sauce they serve with it it's really good but next time would get it on the side as their was a lot of it and it was strong and a bit too much for me. The salads, onion rings & bread were solid. The chicken dishes were a bit simple and on the bland side but just fine. The service was fine and the decor could use some updating but reminiscent an old family restaurant. Our family had a really nice time and would definitely go back.

Out of town and visited this steakhouse. Needs a bit of updating inside. The waitress was great. Wasent too fond of the fries but everything else was delicious!

Who is in this kitchen!? There haven't been many places where me and my husband have walked out and said, "Wanna come back tomorrow?" From the appetizer to the dessert it was all delicious. We ate inside which honestly, kind of smells odd, maybe like an older building but that quickly goes away. We had calamari for the appetizer. They're fried and perfectly seasoned. Whatever the sauce is that comes with it, try it. The salads were good portion sizes. The scallops could've been cooked longer but I like mine overdone so there's that. Again, whatever that sauce is for the scallops, try it. We were warned that everything is made fresh (LOVE THIS) so the food takes longer but our food came out faster than it does at other restaurants so there was no problem there. The cheesecake with fresh berries came out nice and hot so yeah, try that too 😋

Slower service but excellent food . Slower service probably due to very busy.didnt get the baked potato till after the meal. Poor waitress was stressed and kitchen , chef sent out meals staggered to our table instead of all at once. No bread and no spoon with soup. Steak was blue raw first time , better second time out.

Great staff. Food is delicious with a variety of meat, seafood and vegetarian. I absolutely love their scallops in any way shape or form. Stuffed cod is delicious. My daughter had steak for her birthday and the piece was a generous size and thick. She said it was really good. Husband always gets their double pork chops, that's his favorite. Drink menu is large, i recommend the Blood Orange Martini. Outside is beautiful to sit and dine. Inside is okay but a lil outdated and bland decor.

I feel like I need to start off by saying that as someone who has worked many years in the food service industry, I always try to give grace. I am the last one who complains to a server in the weeds. Especially if it's the fault of the kitchen or staff called out and ESPECIALLY on a busy holiday. On Valentine's day my husband, friend and her husband came to the restaurant on a reservation we made for the Valentine's menu advertised. We made it later because a couple of us had to work. We had all been here before and food and service was always great. When we walked in, a lady walked out upset saying she had been there forever and got no drinks or bread. I figured she was being dramatic. She was not. My $48 med filet that I had purchased premium sides with (probably a $60 plate) was almost inedible. The filet was well done, burned on the top, lobster tail looked like a jumbo butterfly shrimp and was overcooked. I didn't want to complain but before I knew it my husband had said something to our server Emily while I was in mid bite and her response was "I'll let the chef know." My lobster mac didn't come until the end of my meal because she rang it in as a baked potato then told me she took the potato off my meal as if she was doing me a favor but I boxed up the mac cause at that point I was done with my meal, my friend went to pick up her B.I.G. steak topper bowl to put it on her steak and the bowl was so greasy that it slipped and spilled all over the table. The server looked directly at it 3 times and didn't offer a napkin a towel, nothing. Just let it continue to spread all over the table. If that wasn't enough, we couldn't get a straw for drinks, regardless of asking numerous times, and the manager was going to half the tables asking how their steaks and dinners were but never came to ours. I understand getting in the weeds, but there were 4 tables in the half of the restaurant during the last third of our meal. At that point there was no excuse for excessive wait times. Even the table that showed up next to us at the end of our meal got up to go to the bar to order their own drinks. I just got the impression at the end the server wanted to go home. But, Emily was sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. So I'll give her that. Also, the Brussels hash was delicious. Probably the saving grace of the meal. Also recommended by Emily.

My boyfriend and I had a very negative experience last night 2/14/25, and on a holiday there were still open tables so being busy wasn’t an excuse. Our waitress was awful, 10 minutes for her to greet us, another 10 for said drinks (they were wrong). She then brought our salads before the appetizer we ordered with no silverware … that she then got off of the dirty unbussed table right behind us!! Maybe 15 minutes later she brought us our appetizer and ran away before we could even say it was the wrong one, she then came back another 10 minutes later to take it to the table it actually belonged to. We eventually got our appetizer (mussels) with no side plates and our meals, that she had again put the sides in wrong for. After eating she brought the bill, that sat on our table for another 25 minutes before another waitress came over and asked us about it. The food was good and I would come back if it wasn’t for the awful waitressing.

I really hate to give this review but I feel it’s necessary given how bad our food was. My husband and I wanted to have a fancy date night with filet and lobster and this place had great reviews. Our bacon wrapped scallops were wrapped with dry cold bacon. Our medium rare filets (both!) were dry, hard to cut through, flavorless, and gross cuts of meat. The lobster tails were tiny, not what we expected. My husband’s baked potatoes was very dry. The good: the four high noons, house bread, side salads and my snap peas. But not worth the $150 priced point. I never give bad reviews but am tonight, to help others avoid a similar experience. It may be better for lunch or something other than bacon-wrapped scallops, filet and lobster.
