Customer Review Summary
Farmer Brown's Steak House offers a relaxed, old-school atmosphere reminiscent of the 70s, with prompt and friendly service. While the prime rib is highly praised for its quality and massive portions, some dishes, like the poutine fries and pork tenderloin sandwich, received criticism for being bland and lacking flavor. Service is generally noted as attentive, with standout staff members like Natalie enhancing the dining experience. However, several reviewers mentioned inconsistent food quality, especially during large parties or takeout orders, leading to disappointment over cold or poorly cooked meals. The desserts and certain sides were appreciated, although some entrees could be hit or miss, with mixed reactions toward the spaghetti sauce's sweetness. Overall, the restaurant is known for its prime rib, but experiences can vary widely depending on the specific meal and circumstances.

I came here with my girlfriend for our early valentines dinner. We showed up ten minutes before open and a line was already forming. The atmosphere is extremely relaxed and old school. No blasting music or obnoxious televisions in the main dining room. This place looks straight out of the 70’s and we loved the vibe. The service was prompt and efficient. We both got prime rib dinners. I did the hired hand and still had a ton to bring home. Everything came out quickly and correctly. The prime rib was 🤌🤌 excellent. Seasoned and tender. Cooked to perfection. The spaghetti sauce was a little too sweet for me and green beans were from a can but for the amount of food we got for the price, we were extremely happy. As someone who has worked in some boujee ass restaurants over the years, it’s nice to come to a casual place with massive portions of good food with no over the top dinner experiences and expensive prices for mediocrity. We will definitely be back!

Natalie was amazing when me and my two friends visited Farmer Brown’s! She greeted us with a warm smile, was super attentive throughout the meal, and gave great menu recommendations. Her friendly, positive attitude made the experience even better. Highly recommend her if you’re lucky enough to be served by her!

Food was sub-par. The poutine fries were disappointing, no flavor and the “gravy” was like watered down steak juice. I got the pork tenderloin sandwich, the pork was bigger than my face and bland. I had to cut it to fit the bun properly. My boyfriend got the burger with cheese, he took one bite and was done, the burger was super well done and no flavor. Don’t waste your money going here. The server was very nice.

Attended a birthday party with two dozen people and had one of the small party rooms with a limited choice menu. My NY strip was not the quality that I was expecting, but I think it was due to the party room factor. Two people across from me had the small filets and both came out more rare than they were hoping for. Some of the kids in our party ordered the chicken fried chicken and it looked scrumptious. Have always had good quality steaks on previous visits when it was not a party room situation. Our group did have great service. You don't really go to Farmer Brown's for the atmosphere, but it was fine for an old school steak place in a small town location.

Walking into the dimly lit entrance, you know at once you are in a steakhouse that hasn't changed in several decades. This is a good old steakhouse like I used to go to in the early 1980's from the tablecloth to the side of pasta that comes with the steak. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and the food comes relatively quickly. The homemade garlic mashed potatoes were the perfect accompaniment to an excellent filet. The picture does not adequately show how large the prime rib is - and that isn't even the largest size! All in all, this is a delightful gem buried in Waterloo.

If could rate a zero, I would. Last time we dined in had to send prime rib back because it was cold, came back out and was way overdone, I tried eating it (because who wants to wait for the third strike..), but told waitress I’d like the meal taken off the bill and told me manager was not working that night, but he would tell me that I ate enough of it to Pay for it. This was after she dropped off food for everyone else, turned her back And asked ‘how’s everything look’ as she ran the other way. Just ordered takeout tonight… the combo plate was cold, to The point the mozzarella sticks were still string cheese. And, I ordered a seafood net and got some 4 shrimps on a skewer. Lady who answered phone acted like she had never done a takeout order. Food has gone tremendously downhill…. Steaks are subpar, and I’ve had so many things that are over seasoned, or not seasoned, not cooked well, etc.. just lost a 50 yr customer

Was not impressed with the food at all. I could of made a better tasting steak then what we got. Very blah. and the fish platter clearly all frozen food. Again the stuff from Walmart tasted better. For the price it was you would think the food would be amazing how it was many years ago when the twins owned it. Now that was outstanding as so worth the money. I will not waste $100 for 2 people on food that I can cook so much better at home. Was not impressed by any means at all.

Farmer Browns is a known for its prime rib and after going tonight I can see why. 5 stars We ordered the massive 38 oz cut prime. We were happy to find it wasn't too fatty, served rare. 5 stars We also did the lobster tails. Though very pricey, they were very delicious. Protip: I noticed the price for one was 41 while for 2 it was 84 if you order the meal. You're actually better off ordering two meals of one and just getting all the extra sides if you want to save money and get a bit of extra food. 3 stars Creme de menthe dessert was with regular vanilla ice cream and creme de menthe. At times too much creme de menthe for me. The soup exceeded my friends expectations and the salad dressing exceeded mine. The salad itself is pretty standard. However, the Italian dressing seems like it's house made and was very delicious. The soup tasted very good as well. I placed it at a four star, but my friend raved so I think he would have done a 5. The baked potato was pretty standard (4 stars) and the fries were a bit more interesting though still (4 stars). My friend was reminded of corn dogs when he ate them. I felt like they needed ketchup and tasted better that way. The spaghetti was very sweet. My friend thought there was ketchup in it. With the voice of that or veggies it's a toss up. I wasn't feeling inspired by either of these ones and give it a 3.5 for both options. The bread was one of the better breads so a 4.5. Our server was very thoughtful with making sure we had everything we needed. Parking is available in a private medium lot. It's free.
