About P.S. Steak - steak house in Minneapolis, Minnesota

A menu focused on steak & an array of classic & seasonal dishes & cocktails in an elevated setting.

Customer Review Summary

P.S. Steak features two dining areas: a bright front room and a more romantic, colorful back room. The food quality is mostly high, with standout items like the garlic bread and Kansas City Strip, while some dishes, like the shoulder steak, were less impressive. The roasted sweet potato soup lacked flavor, and the Caesar salad was average, but the brownie a la mode received praise. Parking is available for free on the street for 90 minutes. The restaurant successfully caters to both corporate diners and young couples, offering excellent service without aggressive upselling. Appetizers and meats are well-prepared and seasoned, with a great selection of drinks, including Japanese wagyu and unique cocktails. Service is consistently noted as attentive and helpful, creating a positive dining experience even in light of some food temperature issues for larger parties. Overall, the restaurant is highly recommended for special occasions, with many praising the ambiance, knowledgeable staff, and flavorful dishes. It offers a lovely balance of nostalgia and modernity in a luxurious setting perfect for romantic dinners or celebrations.

First off, there are like two different rooms to dine in here. The front room is definitely brighter and more sterile. It feels a tad like a hotel lobby. But it's still nice. The back is more romantic and colorful. With old-school vibes. I think there is a ghost present. I prefer the later location. The food is mostly very good. The Garlic bread is absolutely best in the world. Which is wonderful if this were a bakery. The steaks are mostly wonderful. We had the Kansas City Strip, which was amazing! And the shoulder steak, which was pretty Grizzly. And thus disappointing (could have got a better steak at Cub Foods). So that is unfortunate. The roasted sweet potato soup was ok. It really needed more flavor. But am I getting picky because everything is so expensive? The Caesar salad was a Caesar salad ( croutons were soggy). But really it was not that bad. The brownie a la mode was fantastic! You can park on the street for free for 90 minutes. I was there for 120 without a ticket.

Finally, a Steakhouse that doesn't disappoint. Finding great cuts of meat isn't the hardest thing in the world. But finding a steakhouse that doesn't let you down on either cooking, service, value for money or atmosphere is a lot harder than it sounds. From the chains like Fleming's or BOA or Ruth's Chris where you can get standard but pricey steaks in with a chain store template feel to service surrounded by people on expense accounts to local favorites that either lack polish or an attentive educated (about the menu) staff I almost invariably walk away from a steakhouse disappointed or not feeling a value for money. In general, the best beef I have eaten has been in Japan served in ryokan or yakiniku places and I'd almost given up on finding a satisfying chunk of beef in the states choosing to eat steak at home and save myself a 3 to $800 disappointment. We went to P.S. Steak on a Monday evening and got a great booth. The Host was lovely and informative. P.S. Steak does something I haven't seen done successfully which is to have a setting that would satisfy both the old guys with corporate expense accounts as well as young couples on a date. While there were only 3 couples in the dining room that evening, the waitperson was careful to advise the customers on things and portions that were appropriate and to the customer's tastes rather than up-selling to upsell which is a very delicate and professional balance that leads to perhaps lower profits for the evening, but a much better more personalized experience for the diner which is an excellent way to get repeat customers. The appetizers were perfectly executed and timed. The meat some of the best we've ever had, prepared with care, perfectly seasoned and well rested but served at the perfect temperature. The drink menu was humored and youthful but with steakhouse nods as well. Because they carry Japanese wagyu, their international whiskey selection included some very good Japanese offerings not generally found on local menus. We opted for cocktails and later saw a review from a local food reviewer who panned earlier offerings and who seemed to be lack of understanding of a type of culinary humor that takes a place from "grandfather's steakhouse" to som accessible to different generations. So for venue, service, and food and value for money, this is quite possibly one of the best steakhouse experiences I've ever had, hands down better than the generic but pricey upscale chains. If you're in Minneapolis and craving great meat, taxi or Uber here, it won't disappoint.

Went for our anniversary and had a lovely time! Highly recommend letting them know if you have a special occasion upon making your reservation. We were given a free sparkling beverage and a piece of chocolate that had "Happy Anniversary" printed on it. The service was 10/10. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and would only recommend us food combinations and preparations that she really thought would work the best. She was very attentive, along with other staff making sure our table had everything we needed throughout the dinner. If you are getting steak they typically take your full order right away, starters and mains, so that they steak has time to be done right. We ordered medium rare and both of our steaks were perfect. We had the Denver (meaty, charred, good steak chew) and the Butcher's Cut which was Picanha (soft, buttery, light). For our starter we had the Fois Gras mousse, which was incredible. Light, buttery, slightly salty. Highly recommend. For our sides we got the Aligot which is like a cheesy mashed potato. It is on the salty side, likely because of the Gruyere cheese, but we loved it paired with our steaks. The Aligot is enough to share between two. We also got the Summer Squash, which had a lot of great, interesting, flavors. Slight spiciness, but not too hot for us. The House Wine was really great through dinner, and the Triangle Of Gladness cocktail I had at the end was sweet enough to be considered a fun, liquid dessert for me. Flavors of caramel and pineapple. The restaurant itself is in an old, classy hotel. I personally recommend choosing seating in the Steakhouse Dining Room if you have the choice. It's dimly lit, masculine, and romantic. The other area is The Lounge, which is a lot lighter with it's white marble. It's also pretty but more elegant and open. We prefer the darker setting. Both areas have the same menu.

tasty food I ate at the bar, making a meal of the appetizers. The chorizo and white bean mussels were delicious. And rye meatballs were hearty and flavorful. The professional bartender makes the perfect pisco sour.

They started off strong with the starters and the drinks. Most of us ordered the chopped salad, (Nicole sold us on that choice) We had a few other starters. Garlic pull-apart bread and meatballs. All great. We waited a hour between our starters and our main dishes. All of our food came out cold . Steak COLD. 4 of the 8 of us had steak and it was cold. I ordered the salmon dish, salmon was semi warm and the potato pasta was cold. Our waitress Nicole was great and very knowledgeable of the menu. The manager was very receptive to the constructive criticism and offered a round of drinks on them. I’d come back off the customer service alone. Again Nicole was great. Her attention to detail is outstanding. The kitchen and or how food comes out needs work but the ambience in the customer service is great!

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, and it was perfect. The setting is stunning, our server was knowledgeable and friendly (even offered us a toast), and the food was fantastic! It’s a great spot to enjoy a special steak dinner.

Absolutely fabulous dining experience. Located inside a charming old-school luxury hotel, the restaurant gives off the same nostalgic aesthetics. To start ordered The Crab and Shrimp Cakes which were served with fennel and a Tomato Vinegarette and they were absolutely delicious when eaten all together. Ordered two mocktails: The Southern Hemisphere and the Beach Bum both delicious. As for entrees ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon which was delicious moist and flaky. The Salmon was served with a side potato dumplings, which had a Warm Mustard Vinegarette, which was a bit off-putting unfortunately, but that was the only misstep in my opinion. Moving to the star of the show, The Denver Steak 10oz, was prepared medium-rare to perfection and was elevated by the addition of Caramelized Onions and a stupendous Curry Bearnaise which is most definitely worth the additional charge. For a side, I ordered the Aligot, which is a creamy cheesy mashed potato dish, it was also delicious and packed with flavor. If you are looking for an intimate dining experience and an above average steak, I highly recommend trying this spot.
