About Ember & Iron - steak house in Jacksonville, Florida

Customer Review Summary

Ember & Iron offers a cozy and modern ambiance with attentive service, making for an enjoyable dining experience. The appetizers are highly praised, showcasing great flavors and presentation. However, the burger fell short due to a soggy bun, which affected the overall texture. Some diners reported a frustrating wait for seating, but service improved significantly after that. Diversity in staff and patrons adds to the restaurant's charm, but caution is advised regarding the scallops, which were overpriced for the portion size. The food and cocktails received high marks overall, with recommendations for the chimichurri steak, crab bisque, and unique specials. Despite being located in a strip mall, the restaurant competes well with more established dining areas, offering a variety of culinary experiences in a welcoming environment. Overall, Ember & Iron is recommended for its exceptional food, craft cocktails, and vibrant atmosphere.

I recently dined at Ember & Iron and had a generally enjoyable experience. The ambiance was fantastic, with a cozy yet modern vibe that made for a relaxing meal. The staff provided excellent service, attentive without being overbearing, and made sure we had everything we needed. We started with some appetizers, and I have to say, they were a highlight of the meal. Each dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented, setting the bar high for the rest of the meal. However, the burger was a bit of a letdown, despite having a great flavor profile. The patty was juicy and well-seasoned, but the bun was soggy, which detracted from the overall texture. It definitely could have benefited from being toasted for a bit more crunch and structure. All in all, a great spot for appetizers and a nice atmosphere, but I’d suggest they work on perfecting the burger for the full experience.

Great establishment. Great food. Honestly, I would have given 5 stars across the board but the hostess stated she would notify us via text when our table was ready. After about 45 minutes we learned she believed she took down our number correctly. However, she apologized for any inconvenience, and immediately sat us for dinner. Great night of service after, great food and beverages. Definitely will return. I love the diversity of staff, patrons and attire. You can dress to impress, or dress down and have the same experience.

DO NOT ORDER THE SCALLOPS, if you're hungry. Take a look at the menu description and look at what you get for $38 (see photo). I did not adjust the plate display and I ate only one scallop and one bite of corn. Four scallops. Greens? No exaggeration when I say there were three (3) one-inch pieces. So disappointed. Also, I made and brought a special dessert for my 82-year mother in law to celebrate her birthday. They wanted to charge $20 fee for us enjoy it there. P.S. It's loud.

We had an amazing time, Jake was a fantastic server who dealt with our big group of misfits. The food was so delicious, I personally had the biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs. The patio was a great ambiance, but unfortunately a sprouts employee would come over and sit and smoke right across from me. It seems the policy for sprouts is not to smoke in the back…

First time eating there last night. We had drinks and dinner. For dinner fish and chips, and skirt steak with chimichurri. Everything was excellent including the service. They also have an excellent bourbon selection. Will definitely be going back soon.

It’s been awhile since we have given a restaurant a full 10/10 for service and food. Ember & Iron did not disappoint in either respect. The cocktails we also very well made. We had the special tangerine dream and golfers choice. I also finally found a place that can make a good cosmo. For apps we had the special gator bites & the corn bread. For entrees the chimichurri steak and special whole Bronzino. We finished with the s’mores pie for dessert. Every was so delicious. Not one single complaint. If you havnt been I highly suggest. Our waitress was also top notch which is so nice to experience these days.

CONSISTENTLY EXCEPTIONAL EVERYTHING... food, craft cocktails, incredibly attentive service. Ironic that a renowned Steakhouse can also be a Vegan's favorite fine dining experience (order the fresh fire roasted vegetable dinner sans blue cheese on the roasted tomato)!! Best steak in Central Florida... also incredibly amazing sea bass, scallops... The award-winning crab bisque is a must-try for all! One may enjoy fine, formal dining in restaurant -or- if you prefer more casual (golf attire, scrubs, jeans OK), dine on the Bar side of restaurant.

Went to Ember and Iron with family and friends last night. We were seated at a fun table overlooking the kitchen. It had been a while since we had been there. While we live in the area, we normally go to St Augustine or the San Marco/Avondale area for nicer dinners. Last night was a good reminder that Ember and Iron absolutely competes with the restaurants in those areas quite well. The 210 area has seen an emergence of higher end restaurants and Ember and Iron is the anchor of those places. While it is in a strip mall (like everything on 210), the inside is very open and modern. They have a tremendous bar with a great selection of spirits. I believe I noticed some bottles of Blantons gentlemen. My wife had the E&I margarita which was not too sweet nor too tart. The presentation was excellent. I had a Buffalo trace with a gentleman’s cube. For food, my lovely wife had the crab cakes with a beet salad which she very much enjoyed. I had the gator special as it sounded so unusual. I am not sure that the picture does it justice. Underneath the onions and beans was a braised gator. Our server mentioned that it was a lot like pulled pork and she was absolutely correct. In fact, if you told me it pork, I never would have guessed otherwise. The beans and chili gave it a chili like flavor and it was fun to use the fried plantains to scoop up delicious food. There was zero gaminess to the taste. For the desert, the table shared a cornbread bread pudding which was solid though I would not recommend it. Overall, Ember and Iron is a great place and should definitely be a place that should be a regular visit for north St Johns residents and a place to try for everyone outside of the area.
