This place has the best brunch in DC for sure. The service was top tier. John was our server and he was very friendly and very helpful. (We were the group of 3 on Saturday that had John laughing at our antics.) The taste and quality of the food was great as was the size of the servings. The biscuits stole the show and are one of two in the DC area that are better than my homemade biscuits. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great too. The only thing I can see needing improvement were the bloody marys; they were a bit weak in terms of flavor. I highly recommend stopping in here for brunch.

From the moment you step into St. Anselm, it’s clear that this is not just another steakhouse—it’s an experience. The warm, rustic decor sets the stage for a meal that is nothing short of spectacular. Start with the buttermilk biscuits, which may just be the best you’ll ever taste. Flaky, buttery, and served with pimento cheese. The steaks? Cooked to perfection, with a flawless sear that locks in the juices and elevates the flavors to new heights. Cocktails are expertly mixed, balancing bold flavors with finesse, and the service is attentive without being intrusive. For a restaurant delivering this level of quality, the prices are refreshingly reasonable, making it one of the best dining experiences near Union Market. Whether you're a steak aficionado or just looking for an exceptional meal, St. Anselm is a must-visit.

St Anslem is a really great steak house. Went here for the first time yesterday and was impressed by the service, food and atmosphere. It’s a bit pricey so it’s a place you go for special occasions but the price is worth it for the quality of food you get. The biscuits with pimento cheese are to die for and a must if you visit. I got the butchers steak and my girlfriend got the pork porterhouse. Both were cooked to perfection and we were quite happy with our dinner. Waitress was quite pleasant and gave us a complimentary drink at the end of dinner because we found out she too was allergic to tomatoes 😂 Will definitely come back here in the future for a special occasion.

I absolutely love this place! Every dish I tried was not only delicious but also expertly prepared. One of the standout items for me was the salmon collar, which was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The steak was equally impressive, tender and cooked just right. I was pleasantly surprised by the pit beef—it was seasoned beautifully and prepared to a perfect medium, which really highlighted the quality of the meat. Beyond the food, the atmosphere here is something special. The vintage-style decor adds a unique charm to the dining experience, creating a warm and inviting ambiance that feels both nostalgic and modern. Whether you’re looking for a casual meal or a more special dining experience, this place delivers on all fronts. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into both the food and the overall experience. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy top-notch cuisine in a stylish and comfortable setting.

Amazing dinner with friends and colleagues. I had the Butcher's Steak and various sides. The steak was delicious. The vibe of the place was great. The winter weather scared folks away, but they had plenty of space. The service was great, and staff was friendly.

St. Anselm has been on my list to try for little while. I recently saw a mention about their blue crab deviled eggs and after stopping by Snowglow at the Hi-Lawn down the street, it seemed like the perfect time to check out St. Anselm. A rainy Monday night and St. Anselm was PACKED! Luckily, not so packed because we were able to snag bar seats. St. Anselm has a campground lounge vibe with all of the decor. While it’s a steakhouse, we ordered the deviled eggs topped with blue crabmeat and the grilled oysters with smoked herb butter. Let me just say both tasted FANTASTIC! The smoked herb butter was amazing. So much so that we asked if we could have some of that butter with the biscuits that we ordered on a whim after chatting with our waiter, Braden and asking what was a popular dish. While we didn’t particularly like the pimento cheese butter that came with the biscuits, we enjoyed the warm garlic butter that Braden, our waiter was so kind to have brought to us. The biscuits were large, warm, flaky and fell apart when picking them up. They will make for a great breakfast sandwich later. I only wish we were at St. Anselm earlier in the day to get to try Bread Alley, which is a popular bread bakery tucked in the alley behind St. Anselm.

Don’t even know where to start, everything was wonderful. I came to celebrate passing my pmp exam, we ordered the buttermilk biscuits, salmon, NY strip, finger potatoes, creamy spinach, carrot cake and sorbet. Recommended dishes: Biscuits, NY Strip, Finger potatoes, carrot cake. The creamy spinach wasn’t my favorite but that could have been a texture thing everything else was honestly wonderful. Carrot cake was ughh to die for! Customer service was superb, very attentive, friendly waitress and the manager was kind to send some champagne in celebration of my exam. Very much appreciated 🫶🏾 I will definitely be back for sure!

I came here on a Saturday night with two others for an early dinner during a weekend trip to DC from New York. We are fans of Starr restaurants so we wanted to try this one. We booked the table a few weeks in advance. This restaurant was a total “meh”. The best thing about the meal were the rolls and our server. The food was fine but completely unoriginal and absent any significant platting. The platting was also very boring and almost looked like something plated at home. Our server was great but the host staff was cold and unwelcoming. I just don’t believe the cost of a meal here is worth what you will get out of the experience. I wouldn’t seek out another reservation here or expressly recommend it.
