Customer Review Summary

Mulvaney's B&L in Sacramento is praised as a charming and intimate wedding venue, featuring beautifully restored brick architecture and a cozy courtyard, ideal for capturing memorable moments. The farm-to-table cuisine and attentive service contribute to an unforgettable experience for couples. However, some dining experiences have been disappointing, particularly during busy nights leading to long wait times for food without compensation. While many reviewers appreciate the warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent food quality, some have noted service inconsistencies during peak times. The restaurant is highlighted for its delicious dishes, particularly the heirloom tomatoes and hand-pulled mozzarella, and its engaging chefs. Overall, it is regarded as a high-end establishment worth visiting, though some guests express hesitance due to service issues during busy evenings.

We had high expectations for our Valentine's dinner, but unfortunately, it seems they weren’t quite ready for the level of business they had that night. We had a 6:45 pm reservation and were seated at a nice corner table with a red tablecloth. The ambiance was spot-on, but that ended up being the only positive part of the evening. We ordered cocktails and smoked salmon as an appetizer, which was just average. By 7:00 pm, we had our drinks and appetizers, and we placed our dinner order. Our server was attentive, but after waiting 45 minutes for our food, we finally had to flag him down for an update. He explained that they were dealing with three times the usual number of orders, but honestly, that didn’t feel like a valid excuse. To our surprise, it took a full hour to receive our meals: a small plate of angel hair pasta with crab and short rib over polenta. We quickly ate, as we had tickets to an 8:45 pm concert in Old Town Sac, and by then, we were starting to feel stressed. Unfortunately, at no point did anyone offer any compensation for the long wait. A simple gesture like, "Sorry for the delay—here’s a small appetizer on us" or even comping the appetizer or dessert would have gone a long way in showing goodwill. Given the number of restaurants in the area that offer great food, excellent service, and can handle busy nights with ease, it’s hard to imagine returning here anytime soon.

First time dining here and the experience was excellent. Warm atmosphere and the service was warm and friendly from the minute you walked in. We had the Irish bread and salmon plus the charcuterie board to begin with. Irish bread was very moist and the salmon and accompaniments were very good. Charcuterie board was very good. We both had the halibut which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Deserts were great. Highly recommended.

Met some old friends visiting from out of town. The patio area was fantastic, shielded from wind and street noise but intimate and classy. The menu is fantastic and ingredients are sourced locally. We had a chat with the head chef, who was engaging and fun to talk to. And the food! Everything was delicious! The service was fantastic. Drinks were very well made. Was the perfect evening where the food and atmosphere paired perfectly with old, dear friends. Will definitely be back.

This is a high-end California style farm to fork restaurant. It deserves a Michelin star. Chef Mulvaney and his wife run a tight ship. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. I especially enjoy watching the magic happen with the open kitchen.

Great atmosphere — we were given a private room in the back off of the kitchen. Very relaxed and low stress. We ordered six or seven different dishes, mostly small plates, and enjoyed the variety and flavors. Excellent quality. We probably could have gotten by with a little less food but we left satisfied. Don’t miss the ding-dong for dessert.

Mulvaney's B&L never disappoints, and their "Ray Yeung's Heirloom Tomatoes & Hand-Pulled Mozzarella" is a standout dish that perfectly captures the essence of fresh, seasonal ingredients. The heirloom tomatoes are ripe and bursting with flavor, a testament to Ray Yeung’s dedication to quality. Paired with the creamy hand-pulled mozzarella, the dish achieves a beautiful balance of textures and flavors. The balsamic reduction adds just the right amount of tangy sweetness, while the Maldon sea salt and basil enhance the natural brightness of the tomatoes. It’s simple yet refined, a true celebration of farm-to-table dining.
