About Hatchet Hall - steak house in Inglewood, California

Stylish, lodgelike spot with taxidermied animals, a hidden spirits bar & hearty meat-centric menu.

Customer Review Summary

Hatchet Hall receives mixed reviews regarding its food and service. Many patrons praise the cornbread as outstanding, along with dishes like baked oysters, pork chops, and vegan ice cream. However, some diners found the service lacking, citing slow responses and unprofessional waiter attire. A couple of reviews mention disappointing experiences, such as missing main dishes and a lack of attentive service, overshadowing otherwise good food. Despite these issues, the atmosphere and outdoor seating are appreciated, making it a decent choice for special occasions, though some may hesitate to return unless new menu items are offered.

It was good but not impressed enough to go back. The only thing we really enjoyed was the cornbread. We ate here for New Years Eve. The waiter made us feel like he wasn't concerned about us. He took our order and was rarely around. The gentleman giving us water and clearing our table was fantastic. He was very personable and kind.

We’ve booked a table for a special occasion. The staff was really welcoming and gave lots of information due to dietary restrictions. We’ve ordered a steak which was medium rare served as we wanted it. Besides that we had Cornbread, mushrooms and Broccolini. Overall every dish was really good. Also the food on others table looked yummy. Will definitely come back again.

Amazing food, service is a little slow. Our waiter wasn't dressed professionally. Maybe the norm now. Very large portions, the short ribs were amazing as well as the cornbread. I didn't enjoy the old fashion, more like straight bourbon. Long lines to use the two single person bathrooms.

My wife and I walked over to the bar here after having cocktails at Old Man Bar next door. The food here was delicious. The Caesar salad (with anchovies) was so fresh and delicious. We also had the pork chop, which was tender and juicy, one of the best we’ve ever had. We enjoyed it so much that we asked the bartender the name of the chef, and she thinks it is Jose (don’t quote me on that). We’re looking forward to coming back to Hatchet Hall and try some other plates.

So it seems this place is seasonal in terms of food so I am unsure what’s something that stays on the menu. I got the turkey meatloaf, fries and deviled eggs. My friend got the loaded baked potato gnocchi (not pictured) and the broccolini. I will say I heard this place was really good so maybe this just wasn’t the best season to go, but the food was good but not overall memorable. Meatloaf was tender and moist and I enjoyed the tangy sauce but it wasn’t a wow factor to it. I would say the star was surprisingly the broccolini. It was amazingly flavorful. I really enjoyed it. The deviled eggs were really good too. Nice little kick to them. The gnocchi, though cooked well, didn’t really evoke a loaded baked potato. I would have been good to have some sort or acid or something with it, as it’s really rich as well. Overall it was good! Not great but solid. I am unsure if I would return unless I saw maybe something different on the menu I’d want to try. I’ll def keep track of their menu to see. A nice date night spot because the restaurant was very cute.

Very solid restaurant from food to atmosphere. Attractive seating both inside and outside (covered). Street parking and a valet lot. Best seating is outside under the covered area, not as noisy and brighter. Inside they have a few bar areas and various table arrangements. Drinks are great. Food items are very well prepared. Cornbread is awesome.

I visited Hatchet Hall yesterday for dinner, and at first, everything seemed promising. The front desk staff was welcoming, and the atmosphere was a definite improvement from the outdoor seating setup they had a few years back. We started with some drinks, ordered our food, and enjoyed several courses. Everything was going smoothly—until my main dish never arrived. After waiting about 40 minutes, I finally had to get up and track down our waiter (who, by the way, was already not the most attentive when it came to refilling drinks). When I asked about my main, he casually responded, "Oh, the meatloaf and mash? I thought you didn’t want it." No apology, no attempt to make it right—just an offhand remark as if my missing meal was a minor oversight rather than a complete failure of service. By that point, I was already quite full from the earlier courses, but the lack of acknowledgment was what really stood out. No offer to rush the dish, no comped dessert, not even the slightest gesture to make up for the mistake. Meanwhile, my wife had her full meal, and I ended up leaving the restaurant without ever receiving my main course. I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel people should know. On a positive note, the salad dressing on the farmers' market greens was fantastic. Maybe consider takeout—if they ever decide they’re not too pretentious to offer it. Joking, I know this quality of food should be appreciated and consumed on site but I'm just trying to find a way to actually eat there...... maybe once
