About Cast Iron Grill & Bar - steak house in Fairfield, California

Congenial American restaurant & bar offering steak, seafood & pasta, plus a patio with a fireplace.

Customer Review Summary

Cast Iron Grill & Bar offers outstanding food, particularly their pork chop, which is highly recommended for its tenderness and flavor. Brunch options like the Cast Iron Omelet and Union Street Benedict are also well-received, with champagne surprisingly delightful. Service experiences vary; while some patrons enjoy attentive staff, others report issues with waitstaff being unresponsive or lacking explanations, particularly for first-time visitors. Outdoor seating is appreciated but can be affected by nearby smoke and not enough umbrellas for sun protection. There have been concerns about cleanliness, as some diners reported flies around their tables during visits. Additionally, discrepancies in billing for cash versus credit card payments have caused confusion and dissatisfaction among customers. Despite some service issues and occasional food inconsistencies, many reviews highlight a desire to return for the excellent food and overall enjoyable dining experiences.

Food was out of this world delicious! We took part in the Cast Iron Omlet and the Union Street Benedict (special). Both were so delicious. The champagne also surprised me. I don't think I've ever had a champagne with a screw top. I expected it to be cheap but no. It was so delicious. I'm not sure if the wait staff wash short, but our waitress was not very attentive and even less explanatory of how things worked for brunch, given this was our first visit. We chose to sit outside. It was a bit loud inside. It would serve them well to put all the umbrellas up at the beginning of the day because it gets a lot of sun. Colorful ones would make it pop! The view is of the square. I will definitely return for the food alone, which was $100 for 3 people with champagne. Take a stop and check out the town. It's worth it!

Great restaurant that is located in downtown Suisun, which is known for their porkchop! They've won awards for the aforementioned signature dish and a definite must try! We're pleasantly surprised at how succulent and tender the porkchop is and how very well balanced the miso and sake marinade that is paired with the thick cut. I highly recommend it. We have found a new place and it's not even far from our place. Expect an update on the rest of their menu items soon! We can't wait to come back for more. Update: My wife took me back to cast iron grill for my birthday recently to treat me out to lunch since we both enjoyed their porkchop. We started out with calamari, which turned out really well. But as we were patiently waiting for our porkchops to arrive, we noticed a lot of flies that were buzzing around our table. We alerted our waitress about this, and she simply said that they don't usually have those, but she did offer to relocate us to another table since it's not that busy. We still had the same problem even when we relocated somewhere else. But the biggest disappointment was the porkchops. They were served way too salty that we had to send them back. My wife opted for a wedge salad instead while I waited for my new porkchop to arrive. But it was still salty the 2nd time around, and by that time, I was already turned off by the whole thing and lost my appetite. It was a very disappointing birthday lunch, to say the least...

We usually eat at Cast Iron Grill twice a year. This year we decided to give Thanksgiving meal a go here. I’m not sure what in the food made me very drowsy at the end of the meal. My husband said I was looking goo goo, sleepy eyed. My stomach was feeling queasy on the way home and by the time we got home, I had diarrhea. I’m not allergic to MSG. But, was it too much MSG in the food or did I get salmonella? I was okay after diarrhea.

Just had an early Sunday dinner here and sat outside in the back of their restaurant. I'm glad they have outdoor dining so we can bring our dog. However, it is next to other businesses and walkway so you will get a little bit of smell of smoke from people smoking. The service from our waiter was good but wish he would tell us about the mushrooms that was added and it would cost extra. My son ordered the ribeye steak and there was no mention of the mushrooms but was added. Other meals we had were the pork chops, Mahi Mahi and some pasta that I can't remember the name. Everything we ordered were good. I actually come here for the pork chops. Something to note is on the bill, there's two total. One for paying cash and another for paying with credit card. If you pay cash, you're paying for your orders and tax. If you're paying with credit card, you're paying for your order, tax and some fees. I didn't ask what it was....so just something to note.

4/20/24- Fabulous dining experience today. This was not the first time dining here, but it's been a little while and we almost forgot how great this place is. We go because the food is always delicious and they serve a great pork chop and its really hard to get a pork chop that is not overcooked. We ordered the starter of Shrimp & Crispy Pancetta served over polenta & it was absolutely sinful. My wife got her go to pork chop and I got Scallop Risotto. The scallops were melt in your mouth perfection and I loved it. Now I have 2 new favorite dishes. The Olive tapenade they serve it with butter and bread and it goes great with a beer and is always enjoyable. The server was friendly and attentive. And of course we got the famous whisky bread pudding to go. My wife loves that too. We will be going back for happy hour again soon for a couple beers and to share that shrimp app with some of that bread & tapenade!! Yes it's a little pricy but absolutely worth it, fantastic quality. Sept 6, we went back today for Anniversary lunch. Music was perfection & we really enjoyed how quiet it was, got our usual starter but this time my wife tried the lamb chops instead of her pork chop. She loves lamb by the way but wouldn't order it again. She wished she had just gotten the pork chop, the lamb chops just didn't have the depth of flavor that a shank has & they stopped serving the shank, hoping that one day they bring it back to the menu. Service was great, it always is and food was delicious. I just wanted to add the photos to my review.

Just out checking on the water level out at the duck blinds, and Peabody and his boy Sherman decide to go get Ribs and Chili at the Cast Iron Grill & Bar over in Suisun! The Cast Iron isn't that far away ...if you draw a straight line on the map, it's pretty close. But....I told Peabody we're out at the end of Grizzly Island, that's an hour and a half round trip. Well, Peabody mumbled something about havin a get go, a this and a that, and something about a Wayback Machine...and do you want coleslaw or chili with the ribs? Sherman popped off and yelled out Chili, Mr. Peabody! Well, all be darned if he wasn't back in 15 minutes with the tastiest ribs in the county! ☆☆☆☆☆

We came for my mom’s birthday celebration. I had called in advance to make a reservation. When I called they confirmed the reservation and also told me that a 20% Tip would automatically be added because we had more than 7 people in our party and it would have to be one tap. That was all fine. My siblings and our families drove over an hour to come and we do not see each other often. Upon arrival they had made two tables for us. I was upset because I had made a reservation ahead of time (so they should had planned better) and we wanted all to sit with each other and catch up. The girl at the front desk was rude and no one was willing to work with us. We were even willing to wait for the other party to finish. The problem was that they should had asked if that was ok (when I called - when they had the energy to tell me about the tip & tap), once I called for the reservation. Or in the situation at the moment, should had been more helpful. No one even apologized. It was terrible. They also charge EXTRA if you use a card. I think we ended up paying $13 extra for using one card. Which is ridiculous because it should be said. I do have to say that Steven our server was amazing and did a great job serving both our tables. He was kind, Attentive and tried really hard to keep the orders/drinks in order even when our kids kept moving seats. He is the reason I would come back because everyone else was not nice that day. I’m upset with the way things were handled, lack of transparency and poor problem solving.

Great brunch spot! Variety of brunch option, and it comes with champagne and desserts. Everything was delicious. Our favourite was the sweet potato fries. We sat at the outdoor seating and the breeze was nice. They had sunbrellas available just in case the weather gets too sunny. This restaurant gets very busy in the weekend. The staff who served us was great, but we noticed that there wasn’t many staff serving on the floor. The person that served us had to oversee many other customers, both indoor and outdoor, and was too busy to circulate back. Otherwise, it’s a great restaurant!
