Came here on a Tuesday evening and the wait was exceptionally long, was told 20 minute wait but reality was 45 minutes. It was exceptionally busy for a weekday. Once seated the waiter did a great job of placing drink orders, and food orders quickly. Overall the sushi was OK but I was not overly impressed. It’s a cute atmosphere. Maybe I just need to find the right roll for me. The other guest at dinner enjoyed their sushi and did not have too many complaints.

This place is amazing. It gets nice and packed, but worth the wait. We come here and get the chefs special rolls and have them compete for who's the best. Service is great, chefs are great and friendly, and an overall amazing sushi place. Yum yum.

This particular sunday was a little slow but relaxing.... perhaps that's why I got excellent service.. The bartender has been working at this restaurant for a few years and just began pouring drinks within a week or two ago. His name is Vinny .He was an excellent bartender, host and waiter.. The food hit the spot after visiting a few wineries in the El.K grove area...

I love this place. Always happy and I’ve been here a dozen times. Great quality sushi and a ton of great options. We started with the spicy edamame. Absolutely delicious and garlic heaven. Miso soup is delicious. We did the lamb lollipop appetizer which was great. Nice tasting sauce on a bed of greens. We did 3 sushi rolls: -Dragon Roll (modified) I took out the shrimp because it allergic. I was really impressed with how good this tasted. Topped with eel. Creamy garlic sauce. Delicious. -Philadelphia Roll (simple and good) - Hot Mama - Spicy. You could really taste the jalapeño. If you really like jalapeño go for it. Still nice balance with the rest of the roll. We would recommend it if you like spice. Got 2 beers of Sapporo on tap. Always good with sushi. Service was excellent. Fast, friendly, and attentive. Atmosphere is clean and modern. Nice bar for sports. Hope you enjoy this place as much as we do every time!

Updated 8/2024 from a 5 to a 4– previous 2 experiences were OK. Grant line roll over the spicy DJ ——- Previous: My mom’s favorite spot in Elk Grove, whenever I come visit. We’ve tried almost everywhere else. (But go to Kru if you’re looking for more upscale vibes for about the same price). This is perfect for lunch or a casual dinner. All the rolls are good - we love their lunch or happy hour menu, but have gone to dinner a few times here. Their octopus is also amazing! They have some craft beer on top- though limited/runs out. Good for groups. Never a wait, as the store is fairly big and off grant line (so kind of out of the way!)

My wife and I were looking for a place to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. We accidentally stumbled onto Umai. The atmosphere was not romantic but more of what you would expect of a sports bar and grill. The food, however, was exquisite, not overpriced, and it was expertly prepared. Our compliments to the kitchen staff. The front of house staff was friendly, professional, and not overbearing. Everyone greeted you with a smile and a hello. They also acknowledged your departure. This is definitely on our list of "will visit again."

Love sitting outside and having a great lunch with my best friend. Wonderful place to have an early dinner. We were there at 4pm on Sunday. The miso soup was excellent and the tempura was hot and crispy.

The rolls are pretty good. Nice size and interesting toppings. The wings are kinda small, but have good flavor. Hamachi Kama was was probably my favorite - crispy skin and perfectly grilled. The chirashi bowl was decent but not wow - sashimi slices are not generous but passable.
