The country fried steak and catfish are standout dishes, described as tender and flavorful, with homemade gravy that many enjoyed. While the majority of the food receives high marks, some items like the fried shrimp and Texaz potatoes disappointed due to blandness and lack of seasoning. Mediocre experiences with service and food have been reported by a few customers, particularly citing unseasoned dishes. Old school establishment serving gigantic portions of comfort food. I have wanted to try this place for years and I finally did. I was impressed. The staff is super friendly and the service is attentive. The portions are abundant so plan accordingly when ordering. One piece is enough for one person and maybe two people. We tried the staple country fried steak, along with the country fried catfish, and the country fried pork (pork chop). It was all fabulous and you can tell the recipes and preparation methods were home style recipes perfected long ago. Each of the proteins was moist, tender, and perfectly complemented by the flavorful coating and the smothering of homemade gravy. I would eat every one of the dishes again but I thought the fried catfish was the best, followed by the pork chop, then the country fried steak. The contest was close. The chili was great with a nice, sweet, savory taste. The homemade mash potatoes and Cole slaw were both solid. The Texaz potatoes were a little disappointing. They were a little dry and lacked sufficient flavor for my tastes. We had plenty of leftovers which were just as delicious the next day in the air-fryer. The prices are on the cheap side considering the area, quantity of food, and quality of food.

All around great food and service. Best chicken fried steak on the planet. French Dip was delicious. Chopped brisket sandwich to dream about. Green chili Mac & Cheese was huge! And every soup I've tried has been homemade goodness. Onion soup is my favorite. Service is always top notch even when they're busy. And try a Lemon Drop Martini! It's so hard to not fill up, so order your bread pudding to go.

Cherie M is super hospitable. I'm from Tombstone she gave me small town vibes so hard. Loved it from the start. I'm late to chicken fried steak I only had my first one 5 years ago but now I try to get them everywhere. The fried okra was amazing. She tried to warn us to get the lunch portion of the chicken fried steak and we didn't listen and got the dinner one and now I've got a box of chicken fried steak going home. Mashed potatoes were good. Gravy is nice and creamy, mild like a little more pepper so just added some but we'll seasoned all around. If you like okra get your own cuz I shared and it wasn't enough. Biscuits are nice. Not sure if you get more but would love some more. Definitely coming back.

"Holy Smokes" after the first bite. From Salad to finish, we were happy. Slow down and enjoy. The environment is comfortable. How this place wasn't packed on a Saturday at 6 is beyond me. The pecan smoke that's used us smooth. There is no need for sauces or cover-ups. We will be back.

Service was par. Hostess seemed very uninterested in being there. Waitress came fairly quick and asked for our drinks. Took me two request from our waitress for a coke and than when another waitress came I asked for a coke and she did get it right away!! The fried shrimp was extremely bland. It was crispy however the shrimp had no seasoning what so ever. The corn you could tell immediately was frozen corn and was very bland! The steaks were mediocre and we did try the brisket that came brown and very rubbery and extremely hard to pull apart… we all tried one little piece of it just to try to not judge a book by its cover and it was an immediate mistake… the chicken fried chicken I order was the only thing tasty and was actually pretty good! I will never come back…

We were on our way to a local pizza joint when we spotted Texaz Grill's sign about having The BEST Country Fried Steak. That sounded really good and it has been years since I've had Country Fried Steak; mostly because it's always tough & chewy. I looked up the reviews & saw all the comments about how great the Country Fried Steak is here. I have to say, all the reviews are right. It is the best Country Fried Steak I've had. The meat was so tender & the breading was really good. My husband got the Country Fried Catfish, which he raved about. The other thing is how HUGE the portions are...and the prices are very reasonable. The highlight of our visit, though, was the great service we received from Carrie. She was so friendly and attentive. Sadly, it seems like good service is hard to find these days. Thank you for an enjoyable evening of having dinner out.

Had to try their famous chicken fried steak. It did not disappoint. For me, the mashed potatoes that I got with it, could have been a bit more flavorful though as well as have a bit more moisture. They were a tad dry and underseasoned. This was a theme. But I was there for the steak. The portion is huge. Now I am a big eater, and I could only eat half. Topped with a generous amount of gravy. The steak and or breading could use a bit more seasoning IMHO. I also had an iced tea. It was very fresh and clear. I'm kinda a tea snob and this was a 10 out 10. No complaints. Seems like a small thing, but not in my opinion. Usually, if the tea tastes bad, it an indicator of what the rest meal is going to be like. I arrived at 5 and sat at the bar which was empty. Halfway through my meal the bar top was full with 3/4's of the restaurant. I read where parking is tricky and it was. If you need to get back to the 51 North, you'll need to exit the parking lot turning right on to 16th street. Go down to where you can safely do a U turn to get back to the 51. All in all, I rate it a 4
