Customer Review Summary

Service experiences at Stock & Barrel vary widely. Some diners praised the attentive and knowledgeable staff, particularly highlighting Julio's excellent recommendations. Food quality received overall high marks, with many dishes described as delicious, including the whipped feta, cauliflower soup, and desserts. However, there were several complaints about cold food and uninviting atmosphere, particularly regarding the patio seating. Many guests were frustrated with limited menu items being sold out and the lack of proactive communication from the staff. While some reviewers found the experience tremendous and urged a return visit, others felt disappointed and expected better execution for the price point. Overall, diners recommend the food but suggest improvement in both service consistency and environment.

The service was GREAT!! The dining room was extremely cold with an open kitchen and the host moved us out side to the patio with no problem. ALL of the food flavors phenomenal!! And the waitress was attentive and gave great suggestions as we are guest visiting and had never been. The whipped feta delicious, the salmon delicious, the wagyu meatballs DELICIOUS

Stock & Barrel has 5-star potential, but it only delivered a 3-star experience on Valentine’s Day. The service was a mixed bag. After waiting almost 30 minutes past our reservation time, the host person escorted us past several open tables through the dining room, past the bar, and onto the chilly patio. It felt sparse and completely uninviting. I think the mess hall in a prison would have felt more romantic. Unbelievably the roof wasn’t actually covered so when it started sprinkling with rain, we felt the little droplets cascading over us. I covered my head with the menu until it stopped. Our server was very good and coursed the meal out well. The food saved the entire experience. The cauliflower soup had a rich flavor and was served hot. The croquettes I had for my second course tasted great but the presentation was unimaginative. It was like they forgot to put something on the plate there was so much empty space. The beef short rib with grits was delicious but it was cold. The gnocchi was the same-tasted great but was served cold. The desserts were sublime so we finished the meal on a high note. I feel like we need to come back another night for regular dinner service to get a truer sense of what this restaurant is really like.

Amazing food! Paxton took care explaining every detail. It did not disappoint’. I brought family from Houston for a special valentines dinner and it was beyond perfect! The califlower coconut soup- I wish I had a huge bowel! So YUM and the bread pudding beyond perfect!

Everything was incredible. From the entrances, to the main ones and of course the attention of Julio and Nash are to be highlighted. Julio has given us the recommendations for all the dishes and he just nailed. I can't find a single negative thing to say. If you wanna eat delicious, have a very pleasant time and be happy, just go.

Was excited to try this place after the Michelin buzz! Unfortunately, we found our dinner to be a disappointing experience. After perusing the menu online, we had planned to order, among other things, the brisket cigar appetizers and the braised shortrib entree. Our server greeted us, announced the day’s specials, and took our drink orders. It wasn’t until we were ready to fire off our food order that he mentioned that both the brisket cigars and shortribs were sold out. This was 7:30 on a Saturday night! He mentioned the restaurant regularly runs out of these items by this time during service. That’s something that the website should note and something we should’ve been informed of immediately. (Ideally, that might also be something the restaurant orders more of, but I realize supply and finances could be a limiting factor here. Still, there were multiple opportunities to inform us of this, and it’s bewildering that our server was so unbothered and unapologetic about this issue.) Another thing we found a bit confusing was, when we told our server we were torn between a few appetizers, he responded not by listing the qualitative aspects of the dish but by telling us how often it was ordered. “The wagyu meatballs are our top seller” is a good plot point, but it’s not ultra effective in describing what the dish is. That’s one of the perks of fine dining, being guided to a knockout dish you didn’t realize you were jonesing for by someone with an extensive knowledge of the menu. That wasn’t our experience here. For apps, we had the meatballs, mushrooms, and Brussels. Mushrooms were overly oily and fried, but Brussels and meatballs were good. For our mains, we ordered the salmon, which was tasty, and the cacio e pepe and fried spaghetti. Both pasta dishes were meh: they were boring and underseasoned. We had to ask for salt, which happens, but given our bland pastas, this restaurant should probably leave salt and pepper on the table, not make patrons have to ask for it. The shrimp accompanying the cacio e pepe was merely grilled, an afterthought, something you’d expect from a side order or something to throw on a salad. Also, this is hardly the biggest issue, but the menu features a ton of misspellings! (Malfade? Madiera? Poirve?) Gives the impression of sloppiness and inattention to detail. Run that baby through a quick spellcheck. Not the worst meal I’ve had but, for the money, was expecting a higher level of service and more interesting, imaginative, better executed food. Cocktails were good, but this was an overall forgettable experience. I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to after seeing the way the owner reacts to negative online reviews with snark and name-calling. It’s off-putting and very unprofessional. Wish I’d been aware of that before booking this reservation.

amazing!!! ☺️ the food was out of this world! brussel sprouts, malfade, wagyu meatloaf, and the bread pudding dessert was the best we've ever had 🩷 julio, our waiter, was the kindest person we ever interacted with on our trip here to dallas, we appreciate all the stories and the fact that we ate the stock and barrel trifecta was awesome ✨️ he's also the best hypeman my boyfriend could ever ask for when it comes to me 🤭 amazing service, atmosphere, and super wonderful overall experience. thank you so much to julio and stock and barrel ☺️🌟

The food here was great. I enjoyed everything we got but what really caught me by surprise was the seasoned Brussel sprouts. It’s not like in other places where they just sauté the vegetables. The fries were the only item that I felt were just okay, nothing to rave about. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, definitely a place you can just sit down and talk. I would try to get to your reservation early since it can be difficult to park here but that’s just how this area of town is. Overall I can’t wait to come again to try other meals.

I decided to try this spot after seeing it listed on DFW Restaurant week despite their Prix-Fixe menu being very underwhelming. We were seated at the worst table in the house facing the unattractive backside of the kitchen expediter who, in a not very courteous manner claimed I made their hostess cry by inquiring about possibility of changing tables AND he suggested a patio table on a 100F day (inexcusable). The table is wedged in the bottleneck and passed by all waitstaff picking up food from the kitchen often times sideways because of the bar crowd encroaching onto the space between the table and the bar. Nevertheless, we had a great time that Julio so expertly made possible. Food was delicious and I should be able to expect great experience if I spend $600 on a meal for 4 people. If it wasn't for the table situation and then the food expediter being rude I'd give it 5 stars all around. Advise, ask for any other table in the restaurant.
