Customer Review Summary
The overall experience at Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar is mixed. Many customers appreciate the sushi quality, especially after renovations that improved seating times. The Shaggy Dog Roll and Passion roll receive high praise for their flavors. However, multiple reviews highlight significant service issues, including long wait times and inattentive staff. Some patrons reported being ignored while others received prompt service, which creates a sense of inconsistency. Food quality also varies, with some dishes described as overpriced and disappointing. The I-10 location is generally favored over the Dowlen location for better food and service. Despite the positive sushi experiences, the restaurant has faced criticism for a lack of efficient service and overall dining atmosphere.

As a sushi lover, I have been coming to Tokyo for years and usually dine at their I-10 location since it's a little bit bigger. I had a wonderful lunch experience at their Dowlen location this week. The recent renovations to add more sushi tables allows for a quicker time to be seated. Our server was attentive and friendly. The sushi was very well made, fresh, and tasted fantastic. We were in an out in under an hour! Pictured is the Shaggy Dog Roll, a must try!

This is my second time visiting. The first time was over 9 years ago on me and my husband's first date. (From Louisiana) This time, a friend of mine took me here. The food was so delicious. I had a seafood salad for an appetizer. [It is big enough to be a meal, though]. I had the Passion roll with soy paper and the Khamakazi roll with soy paper. The Passion roll was the best sushi roll I've ever had. WOW. All those flavors were having a party in my mouth. Then that splash of lemon at the end. AMAZING. I will definitely be back!! Hopefully, it won't take me another 9 years to return, though. 😘) We now live in Texas!!

Wanted to try a new sushi restaurant across the street but they were jammed. Decided to come over here to Tokyo's to eat. Walked right here which was nice, but sat here and watched everybody come in behind us and get served first. Still sitting here with nothing to eat. Want to get up and walk out this place sucks.

We went as a family to have a nice dinner. We waited ten minutes which was not bad. We were seated and looked over the menu and waited for about 20 minutes and none of the Waiters/waitresses even looked our way. Then about few more minutes two other couples walked in and then the waitress took there order right away. So we just got up and left will not be going back...

Absolutely dreadful. Probably the worst "Hibachi" place I've ever been to. 1. The waiter was clueless about the menu. But perhaps he's new, so I'll pass. 2. The food was overpriced garbage. I ordered the Hibachi Chateaubriand Centercut Tenderloin. What I got was a slop of cubed sirloin. 3. I also ordered a tempura Kevin Bacon roll. I can't even describe how awful it was. Bland and a very strange concoction of chicken, cream cheese, rice, and Jalapeño. 4. We decided...screw it, might as well complete the evening with desert. I ordered Banana Tempura with vanilla ice cream. However, the waiter informed me that "For some reason we are out of ice cream"...So their entire desert menu is ice cream btw...LMFAO Not gluten friendly. The decor and atmosphere was as bland and boring as the food. I'd fly to Japan before paying 75 bucks for another sit down.

The cook was good, the food was good, the service seemed to be lacking a little bit. It was alright, but it could have been better!

I called the host to make a surprise reservation for my mom’s birthday and he was rude, immature, and hung up on me. The I-10 location is better overall for food, service, and atmosphere In my opinion.
