Cosmopolitan chophouse & tavern turning out elevated American fare in smart surroundings.

Customer Review Summary

Bull In The Alley offers a dark, elevated atmosphere with speakeasy vibes, making it a romantic choice for special occasions. While service is generally noted as attentive and charming, some reviews mention inconsistent experiences, including long wait times for cocktails and inattentive waitstaff. The food is well-prepared, with highlights including tender steaks and enjoyable appetizers, though prices are considered high for the meal quality. Many guests appreciate the portions for sharing and the attention to detail in presentation, but feel the overall experience doesn't always justify the cost. Desserts are frequently praised, surpassing expectations set by other menu items. Ambiance plays a significant role in the dining experience, but some diners find the venue too dark and occasionally loud. Overall, opinions vary greatly, with some guests loving the experience and others expressing frustration over service and pricing, leading to mixed recommendations.

I RARELY give out 5 start and some establishments are very close but not quite. Bull in the Alley isn't near a 5 star. Good but overpriced. Being a hardcore foodie, I will pay good money for a good meal. This place has been a local hype for a while so we finally broke down and tried it. Service was decent, hovering at points while we were talking (2 couples) but I would rather have that than someone non existent. My wife and I shared a wedge, oysters Rockafeller, Brussel Sprouts, and the tomahawk. The steaks are very tender. Portions are large so sharing as a couple or table is easy. Oysters were small but good, no disappointment there. They also do cut up the portion for two, bringing out the order on two separate plates so that was a plus. Great detail on this as sharing portions can be a pain sometimes. Overall, the meal was good but did not match the price point. The steak alone was $210. With a tip we were just over $400 for the two of us. Again, very tender and a good cut but not what I would consider a $210 steak, definately not a $400 meal. I have favorite steak houses and restaurants from Coast to Coast. Unfortunately, Bull in the Alley wouldnt make the top ten. Good food but you're paying for the ambiance and the speak easy reputation. If you want something romantic, something niche, worth a try.... Too many other options for this to be a go-to or first choice for me.

Service is always topnotch from the hostess, greeting us and taking our coats to our waiter Ray, who gave us excellent service during our anniversary dinner. He was charming and attentive. A special night made extra special.

My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary. It was a little challenging to find at first, but once inside, we loved the atmosphere; it's dark and elevated, great for any type of celebration. The pianist started at 8 o'clock, and he was enjoyable to watch and listen to. Everything we ate was phenomenal. As the waiter said, they don't have much on their menu, but what they do, they do very well. Their bar service was fantastic, they picked a wine for me to try based on my preferences, and it was perfection. We had an amazing time and will definitely come back in the future.

Fantastic. Love the atmosphere. The entrance. The vibe. Ate at the bar with a party of eight. Wonderful service from the bartender. Everyone was happy and impressed.

Lovely spot with speakeasy vibes. The location is secretly tucked down an alley and away from the main street which makes you wonder if this could really be the entrance. But it is. 😊 Once inside – it all beings. EXTREMELY dark and can at times get loud with the piano music but it’s all part of the experience. The backroom is amazing, but it is a bit weird to walk from the main room through the staff service area to get into the back dinning area. I always love a good wine wall and theirs is tucked away in that room - it’s an absolute shame that most guests won’t get to experience it. We were a large group of 8. Service throughout the evening was wonderful and spot on. Absolutely a great staff team from start to finish. The libations were delicious! The printed menu is rather limited but there were a number of specials as well. We started with 1/2 salads, a number of appetizers and ended up with table dishes to share for the mains and dessert which consisted of two massive Bone in Filets from the Specials Menu accompanied by a number of sides and the Towering Ice Creme and Brûlée. The Hand-Cut Bacon = that’s HAM where I come from. LOL but it was okay. I don’t know why Pasta & Red Sauce is a thing with steak – but I guess it works for some. Overall, the steaks were good but the desserts out did the steak for me this trip! Definitely an enjoyable evening out.

Overall experience was 3.5/5. The food was really good, but the service was quite lacking. Our cocktails took over 25 minutes to come to our table. The power went out and we ate mostly in the dark. A waiter/host was loud and talking about his political opinions. Our waiter was mostly inattentive and we had to remind him that we still needed things. The assistants were great and attentive with the service, so we often utilized them. The cake was large but not impressive. The cake was tastier than a supermarket cake, but obviously that's not the bar they should be trying to clear-- it should be wowing. The steaks were wowing. The cocktails were great. My partner and I came for our anniversary and it did not feel special except for the steaks and the memories of the power being out. At the end, we felt trapped and we joked about being held hostage because all we wanted to do was pay the bill and leave, but we were just ignored. We don't need amazing food if the service isn't there to support it. We're not sure if we'll be back. Probably not.

So we had a bit of an odd experience. The building houses several businesses, and one of them caught fire, so we were evacuated. We waited outside for about an hour. Just before we were evacuated. I had received a salad and a Bloody Mary. When we came back in, the salad was room temp and no longer crispy, and my drink was watered down. I assumed we would be offered new drinks or salads, but nothing was offered, and no discounts were offered. The fire was not their fault, but we were told that the guy that owns this restaurant owns the building. So, in essence, there is some responsibility there. For the amount of money I am paying for drinks and a salad, I think they could have taken a hit on replacing those items. The food is great, but if you have been here, you know you are dropping a few hundred dollars. If you are going to ask very high prices, the service needs to be top notch. As for updates, I felt that the room was too dark. I get the need for ambiance, but it felt like the bat cave.

Great atmosphere for a date night! At 8, the pianist started playing which makes me happy. We ordered a caesar salad and split it, my husband had an appetizer of oysters that he loved. We split the table steak, potatoes egan and crispy brussel sprouts. The steak and potatoes were incredible. My husband loved the sprouts. We rounded out the meal with the chocolate cake. I had a Mary Pickford, and he had the table martini service and both were excellent.
