Steak & seafood is served in the dimly lit dining room of a house alleged to have hosted 3 murders.
Customer Review Summary
J. Bruner's has received mixed reviews from diners. Some guests were thrilled with their experiences, praising the romantic atmosphere, attentive service, and high-quality food like perfectly cooked steaks and amazing onion rings. Others, however, had disappointing visits marked by long wait times for service, incorrect orders, and poorly prepared meals. High prices were noted, but many felt the food and service did not justify them. The restaurant's historical ambiance garnered appreciation, yet issues with food temperature, quality, and service consistency were significant turn-offs for many patrons. Despite some positive experiences, there was a general sentiment that the restaurant struggled with service and meal quality, leading to frustrations and reluctance to return. The establishment's closure seems imminent, as indicated by a recent review.

I was a little apprehensive because of the drive up to the restaurant itself but I'm glad we didn't turn around... This place is phenomenal!!! Our reservation was for 6:30 and we were practically the only customers there for a while. Our hostess was sooo sweet and she recommended the onion rings which were amazing. Our waitress was fantastic and very attentive. Our steaks were tender and cooked to perfection!! It was one of the most intimate and romantic dinners my husband and I have had in a long while at a restaurant. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful place!!!!! It is a little pricey but we'll worth it!!!

Went here for Easter Sunday, with family. Very disappointed! Waitress disappeared for 15-25 minutes at a time. Son had ordered coffee, she never brought, but another waitress did, when we asked her. Two tables who came in long after us, ordered, ate, and departed just as we were receiving our food. One party had three more people than we did. Ordered steak Benedict. Said eggs would be poached, they were fried and the yolks were hard. The piece of meat had barely been on the grill; I like my steak medium rare but, this was just barely even warm. The potatoes accompanying the main course we're pretty much raw. Did not send anything back as we hardly saw the waitress and were afraid we might be another 2 hours and 15 minutes. Use to love this place. My meal was definitely NOT worth what we paid. Service was horrible, meal quality was poor and not at all worth the money. We had even made reservations. Was hoping for a wonderful experience as we use to have at this legendary restaurant, but I am afraid we will not be returning.

We went for Valentines Day dinner. The food was excellent. The service was possibly the worst of any restaurant I have recently frequented, including fast food establishments. When one goes out for a special occasion, to what is locally considered a high-end restaurant, one expects the total experience to be top notch. The staff was disorganized, amateurish, and amazingly unconcerned. We waited over 20 minutes before the wait staff inquired if someone had taken our order. Having time to observe, I saw a neighboring table forced to ask for spoons for their soup and steak knives for their steaks. Then soup spoons were placed on our table before we ordered. When our food arrived, my order was wrong. After I watched my date eat for 30 minutes my food finally arrived with little apology, and definitely no remorse on their part. As we paid the check a waitress brought mushrooms to us, the wrong table. The Haunted House has an excellent chef and an incompetent manager who has supplied the staff with no guidance or training whatsoever. Great food, laughable service.

Based on the google reviews, we went into this without high expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience. We went with an office party of 15+ people, and the staff communicated well with the reservation and was amazingly friendly the whole time. They did get a few things wrong here and there, but nothing that wasn't easily fixed. They let us wander around the house and gave a great history of the property. The owner even came out upon request and told us some more history of the house and the neat things that have happened since he purchased the property. Everyone was super friendly and the service was great. The food was good. The apps we got were amazing. For main course I got the deep fried lobster tail which was really good, and my wife got a steak. Her steak was seasoned well and cooked pretty close to order. A couple other folks' steaks were a little over cooked, but that happens sometimes and the kitchen was more than happy to recook them upon request. The asparagus was a little under seasoned in my non-foody opinion, but I would rather it under than over. The asparagus was still nice and crunchy so I thought it was cooked well. The potatoes were good and the french onion soup was excellent. This is a neat piece of Oklahoma history. The new owners are appearing to try to keep the history alive, and even have a portrait of the previous owner hanging above a fireplace mantle which is really special. They have news articles about the property on the walls and are more than eager to share their story with anyone that asks. If you love Oklahoma City and want to experience eating in a restaurant that was converted from a house built in 1937 with lots of history (including murders!), this is a neat place to visit. Edit: It appears they are now closed.

The Salmon was good. The chicken was chewy. The food was room temperature when we got an hour and a half after we got there. Bread was store-bought and cold. Coffee tasted like folders. Overpriced for the quality of food. Building was beautiful, but they chose to go cutesy scary instead of Old World Charm spooky. The waitress was good, she was friendly and checked on us often.

3 people $176.00 for food that was mediocre at best. I had the 8oz filet which was more the size of a 5oz. It was burnt on the outside & raw in the middle. The baked potatoe was dry & hard. The . 1oz of cheese & sour cream were both $2.00 each. The ceiling is cracking & they have covered the holes with pieces of plywood that did not fit. Go to Charleston's, better food & prices.

Let me start by saying I had reservations and had to wait 20 minuets after that for a table, and was directed to the 4' bar (literally a 4' bar) with no seating and we were the only ones at the bar and never got acknowledged or looked at for the whole 20 minuets waiting for our reserved table. Expensive! and A-LA-Cart, ordered KC strip medium well, boyfriend got ribeye medium rare, i got mine medium rare and his was medium well! On a plain white plate no garnish at all, sides we got were extra salty (onion rings and fried potatoes with onions.) I ordered sauteed mushrooms with my steak i kid you not got 2 table spoons of steams and pieces that you buy in a can at Walmart in plain beef broth. We got complimentary bread that was a french bread roll sliced from Walmart and placed in a basket on our table. When we left we were asked if we would like some bread to go, I said no thanks I'll stop by Walmart on the way home and get some of it.

Huge disappointment! I won't go back. My expensive, medium fillet was black on one side, the baked potato was smaller than my fist and you only get 4 pieces of asparagus. Horrible Valentines dinner! Waste of my hard earned money!!!
