Customer Review Summary
Oakwood Club offers a classic steakhouse experience with a dark, old-school ambiance. Most reviews praise the attentive service and generous wine pours. Highlights include well-prepared steaks, particularly the prime rib and steak burger, with some diners rating their meals highly. However, a few reviewers found the food to be underwhelming compared to the restaurant's reputation, citing average sides and mediocre steaks. The atmosphere can feel cozy for some but oppressive for others due to the dim lighting. Reservations are recommended to avoid long waits, especially during busy hours. Overall, it's seen as a treat for special occasions, with a mix of great service and variable food quality.

I really hate leaving this review because it will make it even harder to get a seat. :) I really love this place. I use to say it was the atmosphere, service and food. Now it’s also the pricing. It’s really a great value. Last night my wife had the steak burger and fries which was huge plus a house salad. I had prime rib and sweet potato plus a Caesar salad. We both had wine and split the peanut butter cheese cake/vanilla ice crème. It was just over $100. The wine pours were generous, my prime rib was probably a top 5 meal for me and the dessert was a 10/10. We didn’t have reservations so we did wait 1 hour 20 minutes on a Thursday. Having that long a wait on a week day means you are doing something right. They don’t rush you at all. It’s a great experience. Plan it being a whole thing though. You can probably get in quicker if you get there around 8pm during the week or right at 4pm.

It has the old school steakhouse vibe. However, most of the food was just ok. The oysters were good, the bacon wrapped scallops on point, but the steak didn’t deliver the way you would’ve hoped. Lastly the old fashion, again not bad, but a restaurant with these vibes seems like the old fashion should deliver an experience and this one fell short.

2414 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45419 Our party of four arrived at 4:10 PM and was seated promptly, despite the restaurant being quite crowded already. The waitress was attentive, serving our drinks quickly and checking in regularly throughout the meal. The Oakwood Club has a long-standing reputation in Dayton, having opened in 1962, and is known for its classic steakhouse ambiance. Two of us ordered steak, one had salmon, and one opted for a hamburger. One order Calamari. While the others in my party were seasoned regulars, this was my first visit, and honestly, I was underwhelmed. The food was good, but not remarkable, especially considering the restaurant’s upper-crust reputation. At $225.00 for the table, I expected a more memorable dining experience. The steaks were well-prepared, but not exceptional, and the salmon was decent but lacked anything to set it apart. The atmosphere is moody and dark, which some might find cozy, but I found it a bit oppressive. It certainly has an old-school charm, but whether that feels nostalgic or outdated depends on personal preference. Overall, it was an okay meal with solid service, but I wouldn’t rush back.

Great service right as you walk in, the server I had was especially welcoming and explained the specials in great detail. The steak I had was cooked perfectly, sides were a bit underwhelming.

The Oakwood Club is one of those old dark steakhouses that hasn't changed much in 30 years. That being said, the food is great and pretty consistent. If you love burgers, try their steak burger. My son says they are the best he has tried anywhere!

If you are looking for an old school, dark, high dollar "fancy" dining experience this is the place. Prime rib was tender and generously cut but had no flavorful crust at all. There was a shaker of something very tasty on the table that made it better. Staff is friendly and great at providing a wonderful experience. Chairs are uncomfortable. You have to go once so you can say you did.

I met some friends on a snowy November night at the Oakwood Club for dinner, and as usual, it was awesome. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant without being overbearing. We went a bit early we thought, but it was already crowded. I started with my usual dirty martini, and asked for a bit more olive juice and it was then perfect. The Prime Ribeye medium rare with portobello mushrooms was my main, and of course, the hubby got a big chunk of steak in the take-away container! It was flawlessly seasoned and cooked. My sides were the salad with the house made blue cheese dressing, which I LOVE, and the classic baked potato with all the goods. My friends enjoyed different steaks, and I got a taste of the stewed tomatoes and wish I’d have ordered them—so classic. It’s a treat for once in a while, and worth the wait. Make a reservation or sit at the bar for excellent meal service, too. The table next to us was pretty loud and it was hard to hear, so be aware that it’s close quarters in the dining rooms. The Oakwood Club is a complete Dayton classic, and will be back again!

Been here a handful of times and each time it’s been great. Love the filet medallions cooked medium plus. It takes a minute for your eyes to adjust once you walk inside, but the atmosphere is nice with a near bar off to the side.
