Customer Review Summary
Steam Restaurant and Bar has a charming aesthetic and offers great views of the Cape Fear River. While many reviews highlight the beautiful scenery, opinions on the food and service vary significantly. Positive aspects include friendly service from staff like Maddie, and standout dishes such as the brussels sprouts and scallops. However, several diners found issues with food quality, like poorly shucked oysters and overcooked shrimp, alongside inconsistent service experiences. Multiple reviews mention redeeming qualities in the ambiance and the comfortable seating, but caution that the food execution can be hit or miss. Overall, the restaurant is recommended for its views and atmosphere, though potential diners should manage expectations regarding service and food quality.

This place was super cute! I love the aesthetic, and my waitress, Maddie, was super sweet and a top-notch server! My only complaint is that I made a reservation for a table with a great view. After the hostess attempted to seat me at the bar, I spoke with the manager who sat us at a table that was close but not a window seat. There were 4 tables at the window with wonderful views. One of the four tables were available. The time of our seating (5pm) and he said the vacant table was not available. We stayed at the restaurant until 6:45, no one ever came to sit at the vacant table that I wanted. I'm sure there is some reason unbeknownst to me for them saying that table was unavailable but an honest explanation would've been appreciated. Again, Maddie was awesome! Her service was 10/10!

I want to preface by saying I am NOT one to take the time to leave crappy reviews but the 4.2 star rating deceived me and I feel like i have to set realistic expectations for others. This place was disappointing on SO many levels. First, the food. Avoid the oysters; they were poorly shucked, you will eat more shell than oyster. The ribs were the driest ribs I've ever had and the sauce, though advertised as something special, tasted like bbq I get at the store. The ribs also came with a side of “squashed potatoes,” which turned out to be two tiny, undercooked potatoes. The mussels are 100% frozen from the grocery store and cooked in a microwave; they were terrible. The customer service was subpar. The people at the entrance couldn't be bothered to smile and looked annoyed when we showed up for our reservation. Our server literally had no idea what was on the menu & forgot our starter bread (not that big a deal, and we still tipped well but ???). The views were nice and that's what attracted me but they are not worth it. The ONLY positive thing I can say about this place is that the brussel sprouts were phenomenal. Again, I really don't leave bad reviews but TikTok, Google reviews, and Yelp deceived me, this is the worst restaurant I've ever been to and I hate that I spent $150+ here.

This is a very nice restaurant with a beautiful view of the cape fear river. This is one of the best views of the water in Wilmington. Very comfortable nice tables and booths. The food was very good(4stars) but it was not great(5). The grits had a great taste but there were lots of lumps. The fries were a bit greasy but tasted good. The shrimp were big and had good flavor but were over cooked. The product and recipes are great just had some execution problems. The rolls at the beginning of the meal were free and very good. I still would recommend this to a restaurant to try if you are visiting or live in the area.

Wow, what a view. With the sun setting, sailboats and even when it rained, just an unbeatable view! Great drinks! I highly recommend the bullet with butterfly wings! Delicious food and if you go on a night when not much else is happening in Wilmington, you can pretty much have the place to yourself!

The food was amazing, to say the least. Scallops wear delicious! My cousin had the crab cakes, and they were comparable to Maryland crab cakes, which says a lot. The pork chop my husband had was wonderful. The only issue was his pork chop came out after we had all finished our meals. That was somewhat upsetting. But the food was amazing. We would definitely go back.

Nice location and if you get a good table the view of the river is great. Service and food were good, we enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts, way oily but good. The crab cakes was good, the short ribs was okay.

The food was great. We had the 16oz Steak with: Smashed Potated and Greens. I added shrimp and sauce to my order, which only elevated the entrée to greater heights. The service wasn't the best due to our servers being bartenders, who had to manage the bar area too; maybe it was late and a one of type night, but it dampened the overall outlook of the dining experience. Water was spilled on the table, and there was no silverware present until we asked for it both situations to be addressed. However, they were apologetic again and again. The atmosphere was a great vibe. Clean. Fresh. Nice foodie music. The bar area had sports, which always makes for a good time. They have indoor seating. Private Room that seats 12 or so. Riverview, which makes for a little romance and breeze. I will definitely try again, and I still recommend this restaurant. If you won't better service, go/reserve tables before 9pm to ensure proper servers are available.

Came here to have a nice dinner before a concert at the Wilson Center. Place was pretty empty with lots of seats available. Everything we are was really good but not the best I have ever had. It is located on the river with a nice view. We were also able to park here while we walked to the event 2 blocks away. Paid 180.00 for 2 steaks, 2 drinks, 1 appetizer, and 1 desert.
