We had a 100th birthday party for my mom in late October this year. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, the care that they took of our gathering was excellent. Andy the event manager and Kristen and the wait staff took incredible care of us. My only ‘complaint’ was wishing that I had people arrive earlier. It was set for 12-3 , ending at 3 so the staff could re-set the room for the restaurant to open at 4. If I had it to do over again, I would have had guests arrive at 11am so they could mingle and then order from the menu at 11:45. People arrive late, ( not the restaurant’s fault) and the staff and Andy were very gracious but I think my crowd who traveled long distance could have easily enjoyed another 45 minutes to visit. I would recommend a minimum of 3.5 -4 hour rental if you are having family who are traveling and haven’t seen each other for a long time. All said, a great venue for a special event!

I’m from Wisconsin and know supper clubs and was very pleasantly surprised to find one in the Boston area. Food was very good including the salad bar, fresh bread station and of course the cheese. Very attentive staff, especially Scarlett! I felt like there were three people serving me. I highly encourage you to give this place a try. I had the grilled pork chops and was so excited to eat it that I forgot to take a picture for you. Early October update. Tried this restaurant again three more times and twice first week of October. Had an over done pork chop that was dry as a bone, salmon that was so very fishy and tonight a $42 ribeye that was inedible. Took six bites all around the steak to find a piece not full of gristle or tough as a bad sirloin and could not find it. Staff did not care that I ate virtually none of it. The vegetable medley is broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and beans. I do not mind it being slightly on the raw side, but come on, it was lukewarm, oversized pieces that were so off putting. I would prefer raw over what they offered. My martini tonight was room temperature. Yuck. The salad bar was still amazing however and was the only part of my $74 meal that was worth having. I do a fair number of reviews and generally rate places well. If you are reading this, you know the type that is always complaining. That is not me. I gave it three chances in a few weeks and am so disappointed as their restaurant is very charming.

Our first visit to Hardcover I was having a true pre-COVID craving for a salad bar, did a search, and Hardcover came up as one of the only options nearby. My partner and I both ordered a’la carte salad bar and he also got the French onion soup gratinée. For dessert we split the half hot fudge and coconut/half rum caramel and banana deep fried ice cream. The service was great. Servers were super kind and personable despite being very busy. The dining rooms are cosy - especially with the fires going. I can see why people complain it’s loud, but I think considering the place was packed - the layout of the location helps keep it from being overwhelming. There’s also minimal kitchen noise and no music to compete with so it’s literally just other diners talking, and I certainly can’t fault them for being busy. Plus it was nice to see so many families out celebrating milestones together. The salad bar was great - I was hoping for a few accoutrements that were missing, but everything was really fresh with good variety. The fresh warm bread and cheese portion was definitely a plus. My partner’s soup was good and very cheesy. The deep fried ice cream was good although we both wish it had been more fried. Not much crisp. We will definitely be back!

Great food, great atmosphere. Excellent wine. Impressive salad bar, including a huge cheese wheel and warm baguettes. There are also 2 fireplaces adding to the nice ambience.

We had my sisters bridal shower here this past weekend. Andy and his team made sure everything went smoothly from the planning to the actual day. The service , price , function space and food were all great (especially the scones ! ) I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who’s looking to host a party/function.

salad bar and bread were very good. We had a party of four and service and ambience were excellent as we got there as they opened. Food overall was ok. I had a prime rib that was not really tender or flavorful. Salmon was tasty and well prepared, and stuffed haddock was ok. seafood app was good.

This is a giving this review. I do love this place and have for years. I really enjoy a goof classic returaunt. Have had many dinners there. I ordered take out the other night. The Gentleman who prepared my order was great. However, I always get the beef wellington and this time it looked half the size of what it usually is portion size and there was barley any rice on my plate. I had ordered a side of asparagus as well. That was a separate charge( totally fine) . However, my tiny beef wellington was 43. 95. While being listed on the website menu for around 33.00 When I called because i thought I was overcharged. They were not very friendly about it. The male on the phone snapped back at me telling me they raised their prices 2 x this year as if i was supposed to know this. They need to take the time and edit their online menu. I'm not sure what happened. I think if they want to keep raising their prices to that degree they need to place some table clothes on there dining tables and monitor their plates for consistency!

While the hardcover has some nice dishes, it lacks the basic consistency that would make it a solid 4 star restaurant. Firstly, service was good- our waiter was nice and prompt, and the staff seemed friendly. The location itself inside the restaurant is a bit cramped but cozy. Its definitely loud inside at busy times. The salad bar and bread in my opinion are underwhelming for a restaurant of this price range. While the self serve style is in theory a nice idea, it reminded me a lot of the corner of my college dining hall (nothing against salad bars, I just think they could do something more with it). I wish the bread was warmer or toasted or something. The beef Wellington was very good. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare, flavorful and perfectly sized. For people specifically looking for a wellington I would recommend this place. The teriyaki steak is also good. Sadly, while the baked chicken was good, the linguini served it had too much pasta and too little sauce. This made it a chore to eat (though the asparagus and mushroom paired well). The salmon was sort of bland-i’d like to say good meat will stand on its own but it appeared to be “seasoned with air”. Not tragic but not inspiring. The baked haddock was nice. I understand the value of simplicity but the boiled vegetables and baked potatoes weren’t really doing it for me at this price of restaurant. I understand this isnt quite fine dining, but I would expect some more consistency and refinement for this type of restaurant. I was happy about the beef wellington though!
