Highlights include the filet mignon and delicious sides like carrots, while the mac and cheese disappointed some. Overall, the restaurant is celebrated for its quality food and exceptional service, though experiences can be mixed. Excellent steaks and food in an upscale atmosphere. Everything was delicious and well prepared. This is a very expensive restaurant but has more reasonable dishes along with the pricey unique offerings. They have private rooms for groups as well as open space for normal dinners however the main room can get loud even on a weeknight when busy. This is a great place for a special night out or a business dinner.

The food at Grill 23 is undeniably good, but the experience didn’t live up to the expectations for a restaurant of this caliber and price point. Out of the six steaks we ordered, two had issues—one arrived cold, and the other was very underdone when we specifically requested medium. For a steakhouse of this reputation, it was disappointing to see such inconsistencies. The service was another letdown. Our server brought drinks we didn’t order, and the overall attentiveness and professionalism were just not there. It felt like a standard dining experience rather than the elevated one you would expect from a high-end establishment. For the price, I was hoping for a more seamless and exceptional experience.

Grill 23 & Bar is undoubtedly a Boston institution, and I was excited to finally experience its legendary reputation. While there were some bright spots during our visit, the evening was a bit of a mixed bag overall. The filet was the undeniable highlight of the night. Perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor, it truly showcased the high-quality beef Grill 23 is known for. Surprisingly, the carrots—something I wouldn’t typically rave about—were shockingly delicious. Sweet, caramelized, and cooked to perfection, they were a standout side dish. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese was a letdown. While the flavor was promising, it was served ice cold, which dampened the experience. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected better attention to detail, especially on such a comfort-food staple. The service is where things fell short. While the servers were polite, it was clear our table wasn’t given the same attention as others around us. Plates weren’t cleared promptly, and we had to wait longer than expected for drink refills. Meanwhile, we noticed other tables receiving lively conversations and more attentive service. It left us feeling a bit overlooked, which was disappointing for a premium dining experience. The ambiance remains classic and elegant, with a bustling energy that makes the space feel alive. However, the noise level was higher than anticipated, which made conversation slightly difficult at times.

A classic old-school steakhouse that feels both grand and cozy, with delicious food and welcoming service! The Wagyu carpaccio was unbelievably tender, melting in your mouth, and the 100-day aged prime ribeye was well seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The meal ended on a high note with the famous coconut cake – creamy, rich, and refreshingly complemented by the pineapple sherbet. A truly wonderful experience.

Came here after my fiancé proposed and had the loveliest dinner. We split the 1,000 layer potato with white sturgeon caviar, the 14oz dry aged prime NY, sautéed spinach, mac n’ cheese, and the cutest celebratory ice cream for dessert. The wine list was beyond impressive and we will definitely be doing more special-moment dinners here.

Definitely my favorite Boston steakhouse. Worth mentioning first is that the service was truly exceptional. It's exactly what you expect from a traditional steakhouse experience. For appetizers, we got the 1000-layer potato (which we would rate a 2/5), carpaccio (5/5), and shrimp cocktail (5/5). The carpaccio especially was fantastic. For steak, we got the 100-day dry-aged ribeye (5/5) and the filet mignon. The filet was overcooked initially, but a replacement was brought out immediately and it was an easy 5/5. For sides we got the creamed spinach (4/5), mac & cheese (4/5), and carrots (5/5). The carrots were SO good. Dessert was a delicious creme brulee (5/5) that my wife talked about the whole drive home. Truly though, what separated Grill 23 for us was the service.

Best steak house in Boston Everything on the menu is good. If you can, splurge on the cap steak. But, the real winner is the dry aged ribeye. It's always very loud and busy on the front at floor. If it's date night, request to sit upstairs where it's more mellow. Also a fireplace. Service is always brisk but friendly and very attentive. Complimentary bread basket- pretty decent. Comes with a piece of cornbread. Brownie points by default. Cap steak- You get the tenderness of a filet and the flavor of a ribeye. For 144 is it worth it? Debatable. But if you're a steak lover you gotta get it at least once, as it rare to find at a steakhouse. I got mine Oscar style, which comes with lump crap and asparagus on the side. So good! Chop salad- typical steakhouse salad- Tasty but nothing special and overpriced. Like every salad at any high end steakhouse. It does comes with big cubes of blue cheese, which was nice. 100 day dry aged ribeye- this is the best thing on menu. So much flavor and a nice funky blue cheese taste from the dry aging. Heaven! NEW Dessert Peanut butter bread pudding- so good! As long as this stays on menu I'll get this Everytime now Peanut brittle on top of the bread pudding, which is so moist and decadent. Comes with a scoop of chocolate Icecream

I’m a foodie from Japan who loves eating out, and this place is excellent!!! A very classic American grill with a sophisticated vibe. I had the filet mignon, and it was amazing! My friend, who brought me to this place, was so impressed with the service—she requested a quiet space for me at the last minute, and a quiet corner was indeed prepared. We were both so impressed with their hospitality. This will absolutely be my go-to place for special occasions.
