Customer Review Summary

Tortoise Supper Club offers a cozy and elegant dining experience with a warm ambiance and attentive service. The Thanksgiving buffet received high praise for its extensive offerings and festive atmosphere, enhanced by a fireplace. The food is generally well-prepared, with standout dishes like the Beef Wellington and prime rib, though some meals, like the oysters, did not meet expectations. Cocktails are well-crafted, albeit with mixed reviews on specific drinks. Live jazz music contributes to a lively environment, making it suitable for both romantic dinners and outings with friends. While several patrons enjoyed exceptional service, some reported instances of inattentiveness and rushed meals. Overall, Tortoise Supper Club garners positive experiences, but there are notable inconsistencies in service and food quality that may affect repeat visits.

Attended the fabulous Thanksgiving buffet at Tortoise Supper Club. We were seated in a cozy nook across from the toasty fire place by Keene himself. What a perfect touch to have a fire going on a cold November day, it added so much to the already homey ambiance. The buffet was bountiful with all the traditional side dishes, turkey, carving station, seafood and so many delicious dessert options. We went for the early seating, which actually gave us plenty of time to digest and then walk around in the area. Seating was quick and there was no wait. Even at that time, the place was packed, so this was the place to be! Get your reservations in early if you plan to attend events there. The restaurant is situated right in the heart of downtown with so many cool places to visit including a stop at the Chicago river and some of the many beautifully decorated lobbies of nearby hotels for the holiday season, so festive.

Tortoise Supper Club delivers a refined yet comfortable dining experience with its elegant ambiance and attentive service. From the moment you walk in, the warm, classic supper club atmosphere sets the tone for a great evening. The cocktails are well-crafted and perfectly balanced, making them a great start to the meal. Paired with crispy calamari, they set the right expectations for the rest of the dining experience. The highlight of the night was the Beef Wellington—expertly prepared, tender, and flavorful, complemented beautifully by a glass of Bordeaux. To finish, a cup of coffee alongside the peanut butter pie was a pleasant ending, though the dessert itself didn’t leave a lasting impression. While not a standout, it didn’t take away from the overall experience.

My partner and I came across this lovely restaurant during our visit in Chicago. We were pleasantly surprised with how great the service was. The restaurant was playing jazz that night and it was a really nice environment. I got their prime rib and my partner got their cheeseburger. The food was delicious! Our waiter was very attentive and really nice. We both had a lovely time and would recommend this restaurant to those who are in Chicago!

The Tortoise Supper Club is a fantastic spot for a romantic dinner or a fun night out with friends. The atmosphere is elegant but not stuffy, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. The bar chefs are skilled and creative, crafting delicious cocktails that perfectly complement the food. The live music adds a lively touch, and the people-watching is always interesting. It's a great place to escape the cold Chicago winter and enjoy a cozy evening out.

We visited the Tortoise club on Christmas Eve. The venue was lovely and festive and felt perfect for the occasion. We were an early seating, 4:15pm, and unfortunately there was no music (which was something I had been hoping for). We started with cocktails, a grapefruit basil martini (very underwhelming and tasted watered down somehow) and a blood orange harpoon (which was delicious, highly recommend). We ordered some oysters to start but when they were delivered they were pretty dry, i think they had been pre-shucked earlier in the day. It may just be because they were planning on being so busy for Christmas Eve but it was disappointing nonetheless. When you are charging $25 for 6 oysters you really should be shucking them freshly in my opinion. Despite the disappointing start our main courses were delicious. My other half ordered the Prime Rib special and I had the beef Wellington. You could easily split the Wellington between two people, it was so rich but really good. We ordered the broccolini as our side and I would recommend going with something else as this was really undercooked and not very nice. Finally we ended the night with the cherry pie which was the perfect way to end the meal. Total bill came to $400, including a bottle of wine, for 2 people (we shared starters and dessert). I would rate Tortoise as 3.5 stars but not sure we would revisit.

I had an amazing experience at Tortoise Supper Club! The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and perfectly complemented by the stylish, jazz-era-inspired decor. It felt like stepping into a cozy yet elegant space where every detail was thoughtfully considered. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor. From the appetizers to the main course, everything was top-notch and exceeded my expectations. The service was also outstanding. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the entire dining experience seamless and enjoyable. If you’re looking for a place in Chicago with great food, impeccable service, and a charming ambiance, I highly recommend Tortoise Supper Club. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

The Tortoise Supper Club promised an upscale dining experience, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. While the ambiance was elegant and the restaurant was clean, the service and food left much to be desired. Our waiter seemed more interested in delivering a monologue about the menu than attending to our needs. He was visibly annoyed when we interrupted his lengthy descriptions, and his unprofessional demeanor set a negative tone for the entire meal. While the wait for our food was surprisingly fast, it felt rushed, especially for a steakhouse where one expects to savor the experience. The meal began with a delicious loaf of warm bread with melted butter, a promising start that raised our hopes. My wife's lobster bisque was exceptional, brimming with lobster and flavor. However, the main courses were a letdown. The pan-seared scallops were underwhelming, with undercooked peas in the risotto, and the Skuna Bay Salmon lacked the "wow" factor we anticipated from an upscale establishment. The Beef Wellington was decent, but the filet was a bit dry. The prime rib, touted as a specialty, was disappointingly average. While the side dishes were mostly enjoyable, the portions were small, especially considering they were meant for sharing. The five-cheese mac & cheese was a hit, but the grilled asparagus and broccolini were unremarkable. To add insult to injury, we were charged for two loaves of bread, even though we didn't request the second and didn't even touch it. This practice, combined with the mediocre food and subpar service, left a sour taste in our mouths.

Yesterday, we had a splendid dinner, the restaurant was beautiful, the food was exquisite, the wine was good, the music was good and of course, without a doubt the best service that my family and I have ever received in any restaurant in the entire United States. We are Latinos and we feel 100% happy with the warm welcome they gave us, Mrs. Jorge Marquez was the best, making us feel special and offering the most exquisite things on the restaurant's menu, we will return, we recommend this restaurant and please! ask for Mrs. Jorge to serve you, his service is sensational, He made us feel at home.
