Customer Review Summary
Tango Sur offers a cozy and romantic atmosphere with candlelit tables, making it an enjoyable place for dining. The food generally receives high praise, especially the Argentine steaks, empanadas, and various main dishes, with highlights like the flavorful chimichurri sauce. However, a few dishes, including empanadas, received criticism for not being authentically Argentinian. Service is noted to be good, with attentive staff, although some reviewers mentioned waitstaff being busy during peak times. The BYOB policy is a significant advantage, and the presence of a liquor store nearby adds convenience. Several reviews highlight the reasonable prices and generous portion sizes, although some customers noted a slight musty smell in the restaurant. Parking can be challenging in the area, with permit-only restrictions on nearby streets. Overall, guests recommend Tango Sur for a lively dining experience with friends or a romantic evening, despite some minor issues with specific dishes.

Came here for dinner and ordered the empanadas and the cheese dish for appetizers. The beef empanada was very good! The ham and cheese was meh and the cheese dish was not something I would order again. No flavour at all.. For main courses, we had the Argentine eggplant parmesan, the beef kebab, and the ribeye steak. Everything was very flavourful and the portion sizes are huge, but the star of the evening was the chimichurri sauce. Absolutely fantastic! Very garlicky and full of flavour. Service was good. The ambience is nice with candlelight only at the table, but it is a bit dark and as the tables are close by, the noise is a bit loud. In spite of this, I DEFINITELY recommend! Don’t forget to follow me!!

Went here on a spur of the moment, and I'm glad I did! Great Argentinian steaks and sides, romantic/calm atmosphere with candlelit tables, smooth Argentine background music, and top tier service. David was super helpful in getting me accustomed to the menu and ensured my visit was memorable. Don't pass up the opportunity to try this place. BTW, try the flan it is amazing!!

Food was excellent. Good quality ingredients. Steaks and empanadas were yumm! Service was great as well! There’s a $10 sharing food fee. They will give you a salad along with the add- on fee. BYOB is a plus too. The only very slight set back is a musty smell when the door is closed. This is likely related to the aged building.

We were four adults. Ordered a mix grill for two, an Argentinian potato pie, vinaigrette beef tongue and a separate order of Grilled short ribs. Every dish was deliciously made Argentinian style! This is a BYOB restaurant, therefore bring your own wine or there is a liquor store next door, it can't get any easier!!! Their staff are friendly and ready to serve. Prices are reasonable. Monday through Friday opens at 5pm, Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 12 noon.

“Tango Sur was a great spot for a group dinner! The BYOB policy was a huge plus, especially with a bodega right next door for convenience. The food was solid for the price—definitely enjoyable, though I wouldn’t compare it to some of the high-end steakhouses in Chicago. That said, the experience as a whole was fantastic. The atmosphere was lively, the service was good, and it’s a perfect place to go with friends. I’d definitely come back!”

Delightful, cozy, and easily romantic restaurant near the music box and mercury theaters. This restaurant has a fantastic ambiance and separated into three sections. The front entrance section is a small cafe like experience, next will go into what looks like a much larger main dining room with an entirely different ambiance, and finally a smaller private room in the back. Almost all of the meals were fantastic and they would have scored higher except for one dish. I'm sure you'll be able to tell which one I'm referring to from the photographs. I'll attach however it felt as though they ordered! Fantastic ingredients for three of the main dishes and felt like they didn't want to waste the box that they arrived in and took that box, battered and fried it up, put a piece of ham on it and some cheese mixed in with an old can of hunts tomato paste to make the fourth dish. Otherwise I really applaud that execution of their food. I will chalk it up to ordering wrong rather than a larger problem with the establishment overall. This was a BYOB establishment that charged a relatively inexpensive cork fee and it look like the majority of the packed house took them up on that offer🙂 Parking can be tricky as pretty much all of the side streets around the area are permit parking only. There are two valet type parking services available at a cost of $35 each in numerous spot hero, personal spots to pop up which are often hit or miss for me since it's hard for me to know I'm at the right address when I'm in the alley :) keep in mind that there are plenty of spots along the strips on either side of the road at the front of the restaurant for several blocks in either direction. You will simply need to use the parking pay box and on a Wednesday evening my cost was about $2.50 an hour for 3 hours.

As an Argentinian I must confess I was surprised to not find Argentinian dishes correctly done. The empanadas are the not Argentinian recipe, they taste like something else. Food extremely salty. People who work there are super nice but that’s not Argentinian food correctly done.

The environment here is lovely. The candlelit tables really add to the romantic vibe. We were quite impressed with the amount of food served for the price. They did have a few vegetarian options, and I found the one I got (fettuccini) to be very good! We were both pretty disappointed with the chocolate cake, but to be fair, that’s not what the waiter recommended. Our waiter seemed super busy and clearly had a lot of tables, so his presence with us was sparse. We didn’t really mind as there were plenty of other employees filling up the waters, bussing the table, etc. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I think we would both pay more for this kind of meal, which rarely happens!
