I had lunch here during restaurant week and was pleasantly surprised by how excellent everything was. The mushroom soup was rich and flavorful, the Prime Rib was incredibly juicy and delicious, and the carrot cake was a delightful treat. I left feeling full and completely satisfied. The service was also exceptional.

Had high hopes but they were dashed quickly. We ate upstairs in a private room. Smelled musty and yuck walking up the stairs. Gave ambiance of an old rundown hotel. Staff was friendly and gave great presentations on steaks and what to order. I went against my normal (filet mignon) for the servers top recommendation and it was a too tough steak I didn’t really enjoy. I’m a big fan of French onion soup but this was lacking in flavor and making up for it with unexpectedly almost cracking a tooth on a foreign object of hard plastic. They were super kind and brought me giant shrimp cocktail to make up for it but they were rubbery and yuck too. I just wanted to be snug back in my hotel room. Couldn’t pay me to return unfortunately.

We finally tried Kinzie Chophouse in River North and loved their 8-Course Odyssey Tasting Menu, available every Sunday. The service was impeccable, and the cuisine was exceptional! We started with the Shellfish Trilogy, featuring poached crab claw, succulent shrimp, and a perfectly pan-seared scallop. The creamy lobster risotto was rich and packed with tender lobster pieces. The wet-aged filet was incredibly tender and flavorful. The lamb chop was so tender and flavorful, served with fried smashed potatoes and feta. Back in town for a solo trip and decided to try it again. SO glad I did. Reasonably priced and fabulous tasting menu that left me fat and happy! This is the worst meal I’ve ever had in Chicago. So much so, I feel compelled to write my first Yelp review. To start off, service was horrible. Our waiter ignored us for way too long till we finally had to call and get his attention. We ordered the rosemary brioche which was dry and felt like it had been waiting for quite some time before serving. The next dish we ordered was the pork belly which was extremely salty, barely edible, and it was absolutely overcooked and hard to bite and swallow. For our entrees, I ordered the drunken wagyu. It was the worst tasting steak I have ever had. It was not cooked well, I ordered it medium and it barely felt raw. It was cut up for me which I had never seen. My four cheese Mac and cheese was HORRIBLE, the top cheese was hard and I had to cut it with a knife. It looked like it had been prepared 30 minutes ago, the inside wasn’t even hot. We also ordered the truffle butter lobster, and it was prepared horribly. It tasted funky, wasn’t cooked right, the presentation was horrible, and my fiancée had to throw up later in the night. When we complained to the manager (extremely difficult to do because I had never had to be a Karen before), the manager immediately got defensive and told us in a very condescending way “so I heard you didn’t like it.” We said it was more than that, but he just said that’s the way it was and he couldn’t do anything about it. Overall, extremely horrible and I strongly encourage you to not ever visit this place, there are too many good steakhouses in Chicago and spending your time here is an absolute waste of time and money. I feel robbed.

Which leads me to compliment the customer service! Our waiter was very knowledgeable when it came to the cuisine and beverage menus. The presentation and quality of the food was high end. We sat on the bar side so it was more intimate. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we ordered dessert!!! We will definitely be back! This is a hidden gem for sure! See photos below!

Which leads me to compliment the customer service! Our waiter was very knowledgeable when it came to the cuisine and beverage menus. The presentation and quality of the food was high end. We decided to dine with the Easter tasting menu- a 6 course dinner (1 course was a shot). It blew our minds! Everything tasted great and the presentation was beautiful. The drinks were amazing, tasty and got us feeling good throughout the night. We were brought 2 “compliments from the chef” & we’re given a free espresso martini with dessert! Kinzie Chophouse is awesome, definitely recommend for a special night out. ps. the phone did not eat first.
