Chief O’Neill’s is the perfect destination for a festive dining experience with its warm ambiance, hearty Irish cuisine, and unparalleled holiday decorations. Walking in, you’re immediately immersed in a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere, where twinkling lights and ornaments cover every inch of the ceiling and walls. It’s a visual treat that sets the stage for a memorable meal. The drinks menu doesn’t disappoint. I started with a citrusy cocktail garnished with a rim of spices and a lime slice. The flavors were refreshing and well-balanced, making it a great choice to kick off the evening. For the main course, the herb-grilled chicken salad was a standout. The tender chicken paired beautifully with crisp arugula, fresh green apples, and crunchy almonds, creating a light but satisfying dish. On the heartier side, the shepherd’s pie delivered comfort in every bite, with its creamy mashed potato topping and savory filling that was full of flavor. To end the night, the bread pudding was a showstopper. Served warm with a drizzle of caramel and a dollop of ice cream on top, it was the perfect blend of sweetness and richness—an indulgent finale to the meal. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff worked seamlessly despite the holiday rush. Chief O’Neill’s truly excels at creating a welcoming atmosphere with great food and drinks. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a cozy spot to unwind, this pub will leave you thoroughly satisfied.

First time coming here, saw insta reels about their spectacular Christmas decorations and they did not disappoint. Very nicely done and great ambiance. Also came for their limited time only Saturday buffet brunch which was soooooo good! There was soo much food couldn’t eat it all (wish my stomach could expand). Had to settle for what I could eat! Our waiter was also so nice. It was a lovely day out on a cold day and enjoyed the place. Has a nice ‘family’ feel!

What a wonderful find! Chloe, the bartender was excellent, making us feel welcome as family . Please remember to find out why the bust of The Chief is turned around in the display case & let me know. Sasha, or server was a true 'star' taking care of us at the table. Great food and drinks! The crust on the Steak & Guinness Pie was so light and flaky that it could have floated away. The Braised Pork Shank is 5+ stars all by itself! The fish and chips with mushy peas was just as good as I've had in London. I've never had tiramisu in a bowl before, and it was delicious! Next time I'm in Chicago, I'll be sure to come back!

Compliments to the Chief! We visited tonight for the first time for a birthday dinner and the service, food, and atmosphere exceeded expectations. They went all out on the holiday decor, and had a live band playing Irish music! Our server, Sam, and the hostess (didn't catch her name) were wonderful and accommodated all of our requests. We will definitely be back!

We went at Christmas time. They decorate the restaurant from the ceiling to the floor in lights. You can't help but get in the festive mood. We did make reservations and we came earlier and they still sat us. The staff was very friendly. I started with a cocktail called the Ramblers Rest. It was tasty. I could really taste the pomegranate notes. For appetizers we got the poutine. It is okay. For dinner I got the chef's wedge salad it was delicious. The homemade ranch dressing and the bacon bits totally made the salad. My hubby got their shepherd's pie. He said it was great. They have Coke products. They have a private area, and plenty of seating options. They have two fire places. I definitely want to go back during the summer. It looks like they have a large patio. Oh and they have a no stroller rule in the restaurant.

The Christmas spirit is still in the air, lingering longer than the UFOs in New Jersey. Which is why I have to hype up Chief O’Neill’s in Avondale. It is an Irish Pub and Beer garden. They actually bring in a live Irish Band on Sundays from 5-7 to really get the party going. We got to enjoy the magnificent Christmas decorations and the top notch food. We started off with the Irish bread that was delicious and surprisingly sweet. I should add this was free! It took me to a simpler time where restaurants would give you free bread just to thank you for your patronage and not try to nickel and dime you everywhere. After that was the calamari and shrimp. If you don’t know geography because you’re a stereotypical American, Ireland is it’s own island meaning they excel in seafood. This appetizer did not disappoint. Celina enjoyed it so much she ordered fish and fries. Their fries are like the UFOs in Jersey, different from anything you’ve seen. They’re bigger cuts but fluffier than any other fry. I got the shepherds pie which is also potato centric but mixed in is some veal and sirloin. The outer layer for the mashed potatoes was crisp and the inside softer than your belly after eating recklessly for the holidays. We finished the meal with a dessert of bread pudding that had a scoop of ice creams and chocolate and caramel sauce. I don’t know exactly what it was but it was the perfect sweet cap to a great meal before we had to Irish jig out. I highly recommend this place for a date night, friend gathering, celebration or even events. The ambiance and food here is out of this world…like those UFOs in New Jersey no one is talking about 😂

This is a gorgeous place. I made the mistake of ordering a root beer while we ate outside. We ended up getting attacked by bees! We were moved inside as one of us was allergic to bees. The food was really good! I had the Guinness and Steak pie with Caesar salad. I really loved the atmosphere. We'll eat here again!
