About Bonyeon - steak house in Chicago, Illinois
Customer Review Summary
Bonyeon offers an intimate and modern dining experience, ideal for special occasions. The food received high praise for its exceptional flavors, particularly through the wine pairings that complemented each dish well. However, some guests felt rushed, particularly during restaurant week, with quick service despite the high price. The atmosphere is noted for its comfort and elegance, creating a memorable setting. Service is generally described as attentive and friendly, with chefs engaging with guests. While many appreciated the culinary creativity, some reviews criticized the seasoning and authenticity of the dishes, suggesting a disconnect from traditional Korean cuisine. Overall, Bonyeon is recommended for those seeking a unique dining experience, but with caution due to mixed reviews on value and authenticity.

My wife and I had an incredible time during my birthday. We went on a Wednesday evening as soon as they opened, 5:00pm. We had the whole place to ourselves so it was a very intimate and private experience. We got to ask the chefs about the prepared dishes and what other dishes they enjoyed in Chicago. Food: exceptional. I highly recommend the wine pairing. Not only did they compliment the dishes, but also cleanse the pallet to prepare us for the next course. Service: incredible, everyone easy to talk to and down to earth. Atmosphere: private and intimate experience in a modern kitchen. Room for improvement. Possibly offer the beef cut with little to no seasoning prior to the dish so the customer can taste and enjoy what wagyu is supposed to taste like prior to the add one of flavor.

Good food, but we went for restaurant week and I’ve never been so rushed out of a tasting menu. Only 5 courses, but with the wine pairings, it was rushed. Sat at 5pm. Served at 515. We were given bill at 6pm, and at 615 we were told there’s another seating in 5 minutes and we need to leave. To spend ~$350 for 2 people, we shouldn’t have to eat like we are at a fast food chain.

Had an amazing experience here for my birthday. What a treat. Staff were very accommodating and attentive. Chef Dennis was knowledgeable and personable to us curious guests 😊. Food was amazing, although I would prefer just a touch less sweet. At the end, I was almost too full to thoroughly enjoy the desserts. Alcohol selection was unique and delicious, we even got a couple tastings on the house. Recommended for those looking for an intimate, delectable dining experience.

What an incredible meal with incredible service and atmosphere! We loved every minute spent at this omakase tasting on the eve of July 4! We had the drink pairing and every selection was perfectly paired with each course. The chefs were so friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. We will be back when in town again!

If you enjoy being overcharged and scammed - this is a must visit place!!!! Chefs here are amazing! They have a very unique palate and will make the food either super salty (soup & sauce) or completely flavorless (appetizers)!! Very unique definition of deliciousness! So creative! You will also have a very mesmerizing experience - as this place presenting as a Korean BBQ restaurant - the food tasted nothing like Korean dish at all! Want to open a Korean inspired restaurant- just add some sauce! Nothing else matters! Awesome! The bibimbap and the soup was such a highlight - your tongue will be numb for an hour cuz it’s super salty!! A meal charged $350+ but gives you only some basic Korean dish that tastes super unpalatable and cheap shaved ice for dessert teaches you great way to make money! Advice for the chefs: Go Visit Korea and Learn What Authentic Cuisine Tastes Like - at very least, just go to K-town. Some field trip would be nice. Right, chefs? ☺️ Service was also fantastic - so many interactions! My waitress took my plates away several times before I finished my food. I have to take it back myself as if I’m playing some game :) Wow so much fun! 🤩 They will also rush you to keep up with the other group of customers who got their food first! What a great idea to clock out sooner! I learned so much! Fun fact: the executive chef/owner was from the store next to this. But he’s nowhere to be seen and can only be seen on the website(?) Guess employee training must be so hard 🥹that the entire kitchen staff doesn’t seem to have any! If you must visit this place, just a small piece of advice for you - don’t hold any expectation for this place! No expectation, no harm! 🎉

I visited this beautiful spot a few weeks ago and it is truly an experience. The area was so sleek, debonair, nothing beats when the environment is as lovely as the food. The selection of food was amazing as each dish was completely unique and delectable. I appreciated the chef explaining how to eat each dish and his description. The staff was kind and so attentive as soon as I walked in, it was like no other place I have ever been to.

The first and only beef omakase restaurant in Chicago filled with anticipation, so I visited with my wife. The staff welcomed us, and the appearance inside the waiting room and restaurant shown after the coat check was luxurious and comfortable. We asked the sommelier for our drinks as a menu testing various wines, and the champagne and wine sake served for each dish went very well with each course. I don't remember the names of all the courses, but the raw beef served with beef jerky formed a fantastic combination with caviar, raising expectations for the start of the meal, and the meat of each course was served to us in a very good grilling and we watched each course with interest and proceeded with the meal listening to the chef's explanation. One tip for those reading this review is that soup is provided with a short break in the middle, but the course is not over yet, and I think I can go to the bathroom for a while. The food that led to the second part had a Korean color, and they were all great, but I think the meat served with sliced onions with a special sauce was the best in today's course, and the soup and noodles boiled in various parts of the cow for a long time were very impressive. We finished a very satisfying meal and it was a dinner out of 10 with no meaning of rating.
