Contemporary steakhouse at the W Hotel featuring exotic decor, creative dishes & ocean views.

Customer Review Summary

Steak 954 receives mixed reviews highlighting exceptional food and service, alongside significant disappointments. Many diners praise the steaks as some of the best they've ever had, with specific mentions of the Kobe Beef Sliders and Chocolate Soufflé. Service is frequently described as attentive, with some servers being particularly engaging and helpful. However, several reviews critique the food quality, describing certain dishes as inedible or poorly executed, resulting in a lack of satisfaction for some guests. Ambiance is generally appreciated, featuring ocean views and unique decor, but a few comments mention a decline in the restaurant's physical condition and service quality over time. Overall, while some experiences at Steak 954 are highly positive, others reveal glaring inconsistencies in food preparation and customer service.

What a perfect night. The steaks were honestly the best I’ve ever had, to the point I’m sitting at home wanting to make steaks only to be disappointed that it won’t be as good as what I had here. The service was absolutely exceptional and we had a party of four and every single person said it was one of the best meals they’ve ever had. Every course from start to finish was five stars including our cocktails and wine. Our waitress was super funny, interactive, and kept us all informed through the entire meal. Highly recommend this place.

We came for a date night and it blew our expectations. The food was incredible, my wife who is not a fan of ground beef and onions devoured the Kobe Beef Sliders after the first bite. That speaks volumes of how great it was. The ambience of the place is mellow with access to outside seating to enjoy the ocean views, and the tank filled with jellyfish is just mesmerizing. The steak, lamb chops were all phenomenal. The in-house chocolate soufflé was the cherry on top! Best dessert by far that has ever graced my taste buds. Looking forward to coming back again!

Our service here was excellent! Our server Carolina was very attentive and made sure to help us have a great experience! We ordered some non alcoholic drinks which were good and started off with oysters which were delicious! We loved the fresh croissant bread they have at the beginning of your dinner service as well! We opted for their whipped potatoes and green beans as our sides, both of which were delicious! I got a filet which was good and my husband opted for a ribeye. We did order both medium rare and we felt it was closer to a medium, I was okay with my steak and enjoyed it but we did communicate that we felt his was a bit more cooked and the team here was prompt to refire a new one and send out fresh whipped potatoes as well! We were very grateful for their above and beyond customer service for this! We did the ganache cake for dessert and that was excellent as well! Overall we were very happy with our service and meal here! While we had a great experience I don’t know if these were the best steaks we’ve ever had for the price point but it was still a really great experience we enjoyed!

This was not the Stephen Starr experience. I frequently visit Starr Restaurants in Philadelphia for 20+ years. From Jones & El Rey to Parc & Barclay Prime. When in other cities the consistency and great service is always outstanding, including Le Diplomat in DC, and Makoto in Miami. With Starr, I know the food and service will be amazing. Sadly, this was not the case at Steak954 in Ft Lauderdale. The service was great. Our waiter was attentive and thoughtful. The food, however, was what I would expect from a fast food chain. Inedible. Ceasar Salad – old romaine lettuce and a super small portion Whipped Potatoes – Cold, Old, Super Starchy and had the consistency of boxed mashed potatoes that you “just add water”. We couldn’t eat it Bacon Mac & Cheese – Sour taste, minimal bacon. We couldn’t eat it. Filet – OVER salted to the point our mouths burned. Burnt on the outside (ordered medium) , it was so bad we cut the top and bottom off of the steak just so we had something to eat. Horseradish Crème Fraiche – watery, no kick, tasted more like ranch dressing. Served in a mini gravy boat?? Thankfully the waiter was thoughtful and brought me horseradish on the side. We expressed our displeasure with our meal and the waiter sent a manager over. The manager started off by asking us about our meal. But his remedies just fell flat. He offered us a gift card to come back. We said ok, but the gift card never came. He provided us with generic business card, with his info written on it. To make things worse, the manager began to only address my friend whom I brought, because my friend mentioned he owns 2 restaurants. I was then ignored for the rest of the conversation, only adding to the poor handling and experience. One steak was removed from our check, even though we ate nothing as you can see in the photos. Sidenote, I was able to take these pictures because after we complained, the plates were left on our table until we left. Overall, I will continue to enjoy Starr Restaurants both in my hometown of Philly, and elsewhere, but this experience at Steak954 has seriously done a disservice to the Starr Brand, and it is my hope, that Stephen spends some time there for quality control checks and service standards. Lastly, I waited a week to post this review, in hopes we would hear from a manager, but we did not.

Love coming to the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale and dining at Steak 954. This place never disappoints, and the 28oz dry aged porterhouse gets my recommendation, although you can't go wrong with anything. First time having the scallop appetizer but definitely not the last time. Special note - save room for dessert and order the Chocolate Souffle, it takes about 15 min, but definitely worth the wait after an exception meal. Gary and his team have it locked down and we look forward to our next experience here

I went to Steak954 to celebrate my brother's birthday! It was a great experience all the staff was very welcoming and nice. Our server's name was Kevin, he was very accommodating and super knowledgeable of the menu and helped us out a lot. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions or even business meetings. They have a side room where the bar is, and they are just as sweet in there as well! The food was done well, too. I'm not much of a steak person, but the steak I did try was really good! The popovers were delicious. Also, if you don't indulge in alcohol they do have mock tails on their drink menu! Overall, great experience!

I have been to this restaurant 100s of times. I lived @ The W for over 5 yrs since 2010. It was always way above and beyond any expectations. Food and service were 2nd to none. Being a special place to me, I decided to spend a celebration there and it was no bueno. The restaurant is showing its age, chairs are beat up and now uncomfortable. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked but it arrived warm, not hot. The mac & cheese was dry and the potatoes gratin were more like a soup. The mushrooms needed to be cooked further, were served at almost room temp and had an overwhelming taste of vinegar. From the 2.5 hrs we spent at the restaurant, over half was just waiting for service. These guys never let even crumbs in your table whereas last night i had to clean my own table a few times. The service was horrendous and the chairs were from when they opened the place. My butt was numb at the end. Ugh! Never saw the manager on the floor whereas they used to visit every table and chat with customers. Overall a very bad experience specially for the price.

I never leave reviews but my experience here tonight calls for one! They made a very minor mistake and went absolutely over the top to accommodate for it! We didn’t even ask for anything to be done and they were on it right away. The food was incredible and the service was amazing! 10/10 recommend.
