Customer Review Summary
Sundance The Steakhouse offers a generally enjoyable dining experience with some recommendations for improvement. The prime rib is tender and flavorful but may not meet expectations compared to other renowned steak houses. Sides are a standout, particularly the deep-fried items like tempura shrimp and garlic fries, as well as the strawberry arugula salad. Service can vary; some found it attentive and charming, while others experienced a more disengaged interaction. The atmosphere is intimate and suitable for special occasions, but it can get loud. Reservations are highly recommended due to its popularity and busy vibe. Overall, the restaurant provides a good experience for celebration dinners, albeit at a higher price point.

I recently dined at Sundance The Steakhouse, and while the experience was overall enjoyable, there were some aspects that could be improved. The prime rib was very good—tender and flavorful—but it didn’t quite live up to the comparisons with House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. The quality was there, but the experience didn’t feel the same. That said, I’d still recommend it. The highlight of the meal was definitely the sides. I had either the garlic fries or truffle fries (can’t quite remember), but they were absolutely amazing—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Their deep-fried items are surprisingly excellent, with the tempura shrimp standing out as one of the best I’ve had. The strawberry arugula salad was also phenomenal, fresh, and well-balanced. Service was just okay. Our server wasn’t bad, but they didn’t really engage much, and the interaction felt a little dry. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it didn’t enhance the meal either. Overall, I’d give this place four stars, but it’s almost a three. The food, especially the deep-fried options and salad, pushes it up, but service and the prime rib experience could use some improvements. I’d still recommend it, but with a few caveats.

We came here to celebrate our anniversary. Made a reservation through open table, which allows you to indicate if you're celebrating a special occasion. We don't often treat ourselves to a nice steak dinner, and Sundance did not disappoint. Dark paneling and low lights with vintage decor made it feel like we were in the lap of luxury. Because we've been on a non -processed food kick (Whole30), a steak house is a great place to eat clean. They're known for their prime rib, and it was delightful. I was reintroducing dairy so I also had the clam chowder, the steamed veggies with butter and a baked potato with butter and bacon. The chowder featured a tasty broth with lovely creamy potatoes. The baked potato was perfectly flaky so that the butter soaked right in. After packing up half our meals for leftovers, they surprised us with a complimentary mud pie dessert for our anniversary. If anything was better than the food, it was the service. Our waiter was charming and helpful, and the other staff were very attentive to our needs for water and boxes etc. the meal was more than we usually spend for a dinner out, but it was definitely worth it for a special occasion

Great American steakhouse. prime rib, strip steaks, lobsters, linguini, and more. delicious dushes, attention to service and presentation. the place to go in Palo Alto for special occasions, business dinners, and more. note: it's easily over $150 per person with appetizers, main course, side dishes, wine, dessert, coffee... but that's totally fine.

Felt lucky to get a bar table. This place was packed. If you want a table you really need to make a reservation. Nice vibe. Very busy. The food was delicious. The mushroom side was really good.

Classic steakhouse dining experience. Small interior gives it an intimate dining experience, but also it could get very loud and hard to have good conversations. Service was top notch, and the food was excellent. The prime rib and the clam chowder are a must-try. Small parking lot in the back, but plenty of street parking within a 5-minute walk.

This Prime Rib was ordered 10 minutes to kitchen closing time. They insisted it was fine to order that late. Totally certified Prime Rib experts because the staff was honest that they can't offer rare at that hour, but for sure a solid medium rare. It arrived with perfect consistency from edge to edge. Still quite tender and moist. The staff never rushed me. Even offered me to try the Creamed Spinach with Tabasco sauce. Which was an amazing recommendation. So good and added depth. One of the best Prime Rib establishments around! I need to revisit earlier in the day for a rare cut.

Celebrated our anniversary at the Sundance. We had the oysters for Appetizer, house cut prime rib and lobster with sides of sautéed mushroom plus cream of spinach. All were excellent. Service and ambience were great. It was a Thursday afternoon, and by 5:00 pm, the restaurant was packed. Our waiter(Jeff G, great service and very attentive) found out that we were celebrating our anniversary, and he offered us the Sundance famous mud pie to help celebrate our great date, we also ordered double layers cheesecake. Dessert was great too. Definitely a place to go for birthday or anniversary celebration or just every day dining. You can’t go wrong. Loved their bread too. The meal without alcoholic drinks was about $200.

We've eaten here a number of times over the years for both lunch and dinner, and the service and food is really good. Thomas, our server is excellent, and he's been our server a few times. You get Boudin's sourdough bread which is really good. We've had the Tempura mushrooms and fillet mignon spring rolls, which are addictive. The lobster bisque, ahi sashimi are very good. Unfortunately, when I had the Ribeye it was slightly chewy and I'm a Ribeye guy. The Chilean seabass and New York steak were delicious. Also each entree comes with a choice of two sides.
